Horace looks younger today than in the 90's.
I think this was shot like 10+yrs ago
Hahaha thats exactly what i noticed too 😆😆
"Horace looks younger today than in the 90's."
Of course he does.
He's only 56.
He hasn't made it to the 90's :)
He still has hair!
For real he does
One of the most underrated players ever. He was a solid part of so many championship teams.
He truly was underrated, such a great forward and a vital part of the early Chicago days . Plus such a humble nice dude. 👍🏿✊🏿
He is the reason why, not only Jordan & pippen
Just to be clear MJ avg 31ppg 6rpg 4apg 2.5spg 2bpg on 47%FG 23% 3FG 80%FT in that 95’ six game series vs Orlando after coming back from playing baseball just a month or two earlier. He lost and had some bad plays, but Simmons got a little carried away tryna act like he played bad.
He consistently gets ahead of himself sometimes when remembering some of the nba’s history.
Tell me about it. He's part of the BS mainstream agenda. Pathetic. I wonder if he's ever picked up a bball.
It is MJ's worst playoff performance. But that just shows you how far above anyone else MJ is. He's the GOAT.
He played every bit as well in 95’ as he did in 96’
@@Cain353 almost choking away the 96’ finals as the biggest favourites ever was worse
Horace just comes across as a super nice, keeping it real kind of dude. Always liked him as a player too. 👍
I think Horace and BJ drink the same youth juice!
Haha I noticed that too!
In that series Rodman averaged 16.0 rebounds a game..... against Shaq and Grant. Unreal
The Worm.
To be fair, Grant didn't play beyond G1. Him playing wouldn't have made much of a difference in Rodman getting rebounds but it did kill the rebounding of the Magic which was one of the reasons it ended up being a sweep.
Horace Grant , solid forward 🏀
Consistent.
Goat
Great midrange from top of the key
Horace always one of my favorites ! Saw him so many times play and great memories!
I always loved Horace grant
I would take 94 Horace over 97 Rodman.
Sure, Rodman was a better athlete and averaged more rebounds, but Horace won’t give the opponent a few technical free throws or get ejected a few games a year. Horace also had an automatic 18 footer around the top of the key.
The Magic was more of a high caliber team when they got Horace, The Bulls had to step up they arsenal that year when Jordan came back. If you noticed around after 93 - 94 season
They lost horace, there's no way that the bulls can win another without a decent power forward, Houston would still have 2 chips when rodman came, then they're back in business
4:19 Jordan took it personally.
I love how this interviewer says Jordan "was terrible in that series." Also Jordan in that series averaged 31ppg 6 reb 4 assist.
That was Jordan being terrible kids.
He had like 2 bad offensive series where he gets the ball stolen followed by another bad play. The rest of the series he was Mike. Just didn’t have a few pieces as a team.
I actually like the way Horace presented himself here. I appreciate the honesty and transparency.
Write that book Horace! I would be the first to buy it.
Why? So he could get backlash like Pippin?
That's what sets MJ apart from the divas. Winning was the only thing that mattered.
Hey would you like to go on a podcast to show your facts about Michael Jordan? If you want to go on it is real simple. All you have to do is let me call you up.
That's false
@@vernonrobinson1685 nah
Since we are talking about Grant, in his last year( Grant) as a Bull, Jordan was off living his deranged baseball fantasy.
He told ESPN even in that year( 93-94) he could still average 32 points a game as that was only 8 per quarter.
Jordan DIDNT just care about winning.
He cared about his points, and his brand which is why we were treated to that megalomaniac "Last Dance".
Falsehoods don't work on this channel buddy
@@vernonrobinson1685 dude had one of the most legendary drives to win and not to mention 2 3peats which is unheard of in modern basketball. But now he's a Westbrook? Lol come on man.
Grant had a rough position to play against Barkley, Malone, McHale, Laimbeer, Oakley, and Kemp.
Without Rodman, the Bulls don’t do the second three peat. Period. He gave them defense, rebounds and personality to take big guys out of their game.
Truth
But they did the first three peat without Rodman. Nuff said.
@@naturalblockade3412 you’re a botched abortion, right?
No doubt about it
everyone in the team plays a role, everyone is important. i agree with mike, when he mention about the success he refer it as a team success
GREAT VIDEO SIR!
It’s nice to see Horace Grant interviewing Bill Simmons.
They didnt mention DENNIS RODMAN being added to that BULLS team in the 1995 1996 season ,
is what pretty much formed them into a JORDAN, PIPPEN , RODMAN - (BIG - 3 SUPERTEAM)
Rodman was the difference clearly, the Bulls weren't going far with Kukoc at the PF spot. The Magic also had numerous injuries throughout that series, but I don't believe they would've won at full strength anyway the Bulls saw how the Rockets defended them and were able to use the same defensive scheme. All the injuries probably did was shorten the series.
He thought he was leaving the Bulls for the team of the 90s 💀
57 and still looks like he did in the 90s, or younger....
And that magic squad is one of the biggest what ifs in league history.
And then Hakeem destroyed Shak.
Man, that Horace Grant is still a classy guy ✌🏾 & Basketball was so much more exciting to watch when those guys played the game 👊🏾
I wonder what kind of HoF career Penny would have had if he hadn’t gotten hurt. Big 90’s Bulls fan here, but Penny was so impressive
Him & grant hill. Sad they couldn’t have healthy careers
Great video
Horace gets so underrated
These 2 forget that orlando got swept & horace checked out early on! Scared to death, shaq left for the lakers because he knew he'd never make it back to the NBA Finals coming out of the east until MJ retires again! Horace was simply a role player & malcontent at every NBA location he played for!
@Eternal Boss Reborn 6 for 6 with 6 Finals MVPs, 10 Scoring Championships 9 First team All NBA Defense! - League MVP, scoring Champion, slam dunk Champion, all-star game MVP, DPOY, all in the same year! NBA records for highest career regular season & playoffs scoring averages! To argue against Michael Jordan's accomplishments is knocking perfection!
@Eternal Boss Reborn he's deflecting just to let you know MJ is the best and he hopes you don't take it personally and start a whole diatribe or lecture on why he should not think the way he does!😃
@Eternal Boss Reborn maybe not perfect/perfect but Jordan is close (to perfect)
@Eternal Boss Reborn any reasons or explanation as to why it is false?
@Eternal Boss Reborn 5% is not necessarily the definition of close plus "perfect" is actually keyword. Moreover if you don't know my definition of "close" how can you determine my statement as false? You put the cart before the horse.
For me .. the best team to not win s tittle was that Orlando magic team.. they were loaded!!
He sounds like a suburban clown fan interviewing a professional athlete. "Jordan played terrible", "He got his a** kicked" sounds like he NEVER watched it. BTW, the "NBA forgot about it" but he didn't mention that MJ used his failure in that series as motivation in his videos and interviews. Can't take this guy serious at all
Hey would you like to go on my podcast it is real simple all you have to do is let me call you up.
Shaq is a Egomaniac and still is, happy Kobe won without him and one more than him
I never understood why people think the '95 Bulls/Magic series is being like "hidden away" to save Jordan's legacy. It was literally a major point in the Bulls documentary and it's brought up pretty much all the time, usually by people trying to diminish Jordan lol
Hey would you liek to go on my podcast then if so it's real simple all you have to do is let me call you up .
@Lamar Stewart I mean i'd consider myself a jordan fan but i don't really think it's a big deal. He came back after playing a different sport for a year and a half and he messed up. Overall had a performance that wasn't good enough to win. His stats were still great but his faults that series were in the details. But then he came back and led the Bulls to their second 3-peat with an entirely new roster aside from Pippen so to say he "made up for it" in my opinion is a massive understatement
@Lamar Stewart Based on this response it seems to me like you're the kinda person who gets a strange kick out of diminishing MJ for whatever reason. But I'll break it down for you anyway even if you don't bother reading it. Yes, you don't win 72 games without a great team. 1996 was a primetime for all of those guys. Jordan and Pippen BOTH made 1st team All-NBA, and them plus Rodman all made 1st team All-defense. Jordan was 6th in DPOY and Rodman was 7th. So it's not like Pippen just carried Jordan defensively. Their overall team defense was elite as they were built around that. Jordan was the main offensive engine and Pippen helped facilitate. But pretty much the whole team was good defensively. I will point out though that Rodman did miss 20 games that season, so that's a lot of time not having that league leading rebounder, and they went 15-3 without him.
Since we're acting like Jordan didn't lead anything I'll point out that Pippen was less efficient across the board than Jordan. Kukoc shot 40% from 3 yet still had a lower 3-point percentage than Jordan. They were 11th in 3-pointers per game but 3rd in percentage, and Jordan contributed to that as well.
They whole team played their parts pretty much perfectly that year, but are you saying that the best player on the team isn't allowed to have help? Jordan had double the offensive win-shares of Pippen, and more defensive win-shares. He led the league in ws/48, so yes he did "lead" them. Just because they played well doesn't mean he didn't lead them. Isn't a leader supposed to make his team (and teammates) better?
When it comes to the Finals, yeah it's Jordan's worst, but are we gonna act like 27-5-4 on 42% with good defense is some terrible performance? Look at how everyone else on the Bulls played against that Sonic defense. Pretty much everyone played way worse than they usually do. The average TEAM FG% against the Sonics that playoffs was 43%. There's context to this.
@Lamar Stewart losses do happen. It’s apart of the game. The best part about that loss is how the bulls answered back. The bulls w Jordan lost 2 playoff series in the 90s (Pistons,Magic’s) & they responded with a 3 peat both times.
@Lamar Stewart 89-90 season goes into the 90s. That’s the year they lost to the Pistons in game 7. So I repeat after each series loss in the 90s he responded by leading a 3 peat. He played in 8 playoff series in the 90s (90,91,92,93,95,96,97,98) thats 80% of the post season… 27-2 in playoff series & never lost more than 2 games in a row when he was on the team during the 90s.
I always said if grant didn't get hurt the 96 series could went either way
I always loved Horace and Scotty on the Bulls. Scotty was so unselfish when he would have been the leader on almost any other team. Horace just hustled for position to rebound, and got to the open spot all the time - IN CASE Michael and Scotty were not able to get their shots off. And he got rewarded often for dunks.
The Bulls were not close to making the finals without Jordan. They lost in the conference SEMI-finals. They had to beat the Knicks, and then another team before they even would reach the finals.
Hey would you like to go on my podcast it is real simple all you have to do is let me call you up.
I hate when they say this, but same people knock MJ for losing the next season. I think bulls had to beat Knicks & pacers. Knicks played 3 game 7s & lost the last 1 to Houston. Bulls had best players on both 3peats minus MJ & Rodman. & Phil, Scottie, Horace, & BJ all was trying to prove they was good without MJ.
@@theuniversegalaxynba I'm down
People also forget that the Bulls added a key ingredient the year Jordan set out. Toni Kukoc was one of the greatest role players/6th men to ever play.
So thank you if you like send me an email with your phone number and I will call you up then the email is in the description section .
Mj averaged 31 6 4 and 2 steals and 2 blocks that series Simmons is full of crap
How were the Magic going to "own the second half of that decade" even if Shaq stayed, Penny got injured in 1997 and was never the same.
You could argue that had Shaq stayed, Penny would have had less pressure on him night after night and not get injured that badly.
Bc we're talking "if" Shaq stayed, which means we're talking "if", PENNY didn't get hurt lol
His speech has gotten better. Back in the days, he had a speech impediment. He was nervous. He took his time to speak and he did good.
I like Mr. Grant. Humble guy!
Horace was out after Game 1.
Anderson and Scott were also severely banged up.
The Bulls added Rodman which improved them as well.
The Magic were down by almost 30 when Grant got injured - and it was in game 1. Don't comment if you don't know you history. Also Anderson got hurt in got hurt in game 3 again when the game was already decided. And Dennis Scott was not severely banged up. The fact is they were not a championship team and had some maturing to do. For one, they had a weak bench, with zero after Brian Shaw and AB. 🤦♀️ honestly what's wrong with the internet? This is like me running around pushing a BS opinion in golf as if I know ish about it.

It was on the last dance not only that but Jordan had a great series 31ppg 6rpg 4apg 2.5spg 2bpg on 47%FG 23% 3FG 80%FT
Jordan looked bad in that series ??? Dude averaged 31 ppg in that 1995 series. Did he not do research ?
Jordan leaves, Bulls still get to the Semi-Finals, lose in 7. 55-27 record
Next Year, Grant Leaves, MJ Returns, get to the Semi-Finals and lose in 6. 47-35 record
following year, Bulls get Rodman, which championship. 72-10 record
It makes you wonder what would have happened if they found a replacement for MJ at Guard that was just sub-All Star level.
Nothing would've happened. The Bulls needed a guy that could take the high pressure shots when everyone else would go cold. If not Jordan, it needed to be another true #1. They didn't have that in Pippen or Kukoc.
@@depannist bulls missed Horace more than mj
@@MeMe-td1ye maybe. It’s a shame they couldn’t get Horace to return to the Bulls to “lead” them to another 3-peat. Luckily they got the guy they missed less, MJ to return and somehow pulled off the 3-peat.

Didnt recognize him without the goggles
Because they were better.
Bulls were 3-1 in the regular season. They completely clamped down on the perimeter shooting of the Magic. They were killing Orlando before he got injured and Anderson and Scott had awful shooting percentages the whole series. Its probably more accurate to say, without Grant or with him, the Bulls had a blueprint.
When Was this recorded ?
I disagree that the Magic would have beat the Bulls. They got swept in ‘96. Historically, young teams don’t win NBA championships with star players under 26. And Penny was plagued with injuries after 24.
Horace Grant is a basketball player in the NBA. He was a Chicago Bull. He was Magic in Orlando. He has a mortgage with a good rate. His dog is well behaved.
I love this comment
The Jazz were definitely a force but idk if they would have beaten the Magics. Who was gonna stop Shaq? Penny going up again Stockton would have been great for his legacy
Utah did beat the lakers 4-1 Shaq and rookie Kobe in 1997
Dude sounds ignorant. There wasn’t a season/series MJ played that he played bad. A couple turnovers doesn’t mean you played bad.
The underappreciated character of bird and magic highlighted here. Being great and smart enough to relent to others for the benefit of the team. Shaq is low IQ, gets a pass for dismantling 2 good team bc he wanted all the attention.
Shaq is low IQ af and tried hard to seem smart to compensate

That was Jordan #45. Jordan #23 killed them.
Rodman and injuries killed the Magic.
If ya coulda ya woulda
2:06 "Is it fair to say... " No, and it's because the Chicago Bulls put aside personal differences for the sake of winning championships by aquiring Dennis Rodman - Thus completely dismantling not only the Orlando Magic franchise, but countless others in their wake. :)

Mj literally retired during he end of his prime and yall expect him to win lol
The one common denominator in those magic and Lakers teams that he said self destructed was shaq there’s your ego problem reason bulls left him open was cause they did not have any big guys Cartwright had retired he left free agency they sing joe Kline I believe who couldn’t stay healthy that why they traded for Dennis
I actually think it was because of Phil and Rodman.
Orlando would have got a chip by 99 and probably wins back to back. Bulls 96-98 to much for the league to handle

It wouldn't have matter with the series outcome. With Horace they may have won a game or two.
G2 probably has a different result with him, what gets overlooked is the Magic had a much worse record in games without Grant that year compared to when Shaq was out.
So Shaq is the common denominator of negativity with his teammates
3:02… then Hakeem Olajuwon happened.
Jordan was not terrible tht series...they were gettin bullied on the board
He was terrible. You can’t get your basketball rhythm starting play in the spring. Once he had his rhythm, they completely destroyed the magic.
That 95-96 conference finals was probably the most unwatchable in history of the NBA. NO NEED to watch after game 1😳.. MJ was obviously pissed off at what happened the year prior, and responded like an absolute monster. That MAGIC team literally lost it, and Shaq left for the Lakers😏
Narrator, as kicked? You're stretching it. Next year a sweep .
2:30 c'mon, "more than a couple?" you got swept the 1 year you made the finals.
I remember in real time a lot of people thought Horace was feigning that injury to avoid embarrassment again. Hurt elbow or not, they would have been swept.
What a load of hogwash, if people thought that. No way would he do that .
If people saw the replay of that injury, they would know he wasn’t faking.
I don't think it would've been a sweep, one of the reasons it ended up being so lopsided was without Grant the Magic had to go small for long stretches late in the games which hurt them on the boards. It's possible his presence would've helped the Magic for at least a few games.
The Rockets were actually a more difficult matchup for them w/Grant to be honest with how they were stretching the floor. Both him and Shaq were being drawn outside a lot which gave the Rockets numerous easy scoring opportunities.
Grant is right. That Magic team could have won 3 or 4 titles. Shaq should have stayed in Orlando.
It's simple, Orlando beat Da' Bulls the previous year and MJ took it personal...

I’ve never bought that narrative of Jordan not being as tuned up as he should have been hence they lost to the Magic. The guy dropped 50+ at MSG earlier in the season. Bought in a good vet and the best player in Europe and won another three peat
Then you aren't old enough to have been able to have watched his career up to that point. You don't walk away from the pro game, play baseball (or any sport) for two years and come back just as you left. What you saw was that Jordan was so great that he could do that and come back and perform at a level that would make you think he wasn't rusty.
