I remember that series. As a Bulls fan you hoped for something that deep down you knew wasn't likely. The Bulls were a barely over .500 team for the season. Jordan took them further than they had any business being in the playoffs then. Even though Jordan was rounding into form, the Magic were legit. Young Shaq, young Penny... and what people don't get is that the two of them, Penny in particular, had a full year WITHOUT Jordan in the league where his confidence could just grow. Orlando fully were favorites and deserved to win. It's still shocking how that finals vs. the Rockets went down to me. Shaq deserved better. Dream was incredible but Shaq didn't let up either and was outstanding. Love Jordan as a player. But there's no denying that mentally he just destroyed guys on the court. So much of it was mental and he owned folks.
I saw B Shaw at hooters w H grant in Orlando and I remember telling Bshaw great triple double...looked back that was his only triple double ! Both stand up dudes
Great convo but B Shaw confused the 73 win Warriors with the ‘17 warriors that had KD. He was asked about the KD warriors but answered using the 16 warriors. Also he omitted that H Grant was injured during the rematch series where the magic got swept. I still think the bulls win that series but it would’ve def been a different dynamic.
Well Rodman did stop Shaq in that Bulls sweep of the Magic. Then despite how great Kobe was, MJ would still had the edge over him, so I'd think the Bulls would still come out on top of the 3 peat Lakers but it would have been a close tough match up.

Brian Shaw forgot Rodman pretty much had Shaq's number. Sure Shaq got his, but he had to work harder against Rodman to do it than he had to against everyone else. And Kobe vs MJ wouldn't be as close as people think. The Bulls would goad Kobe into a 1-on-1 against Jordan every time. This means Shaq would not get the ball in the post. It would literally take away LA's most efficient and dominant weapon. At that stage in their careers, Jordan was stronger and smarter than Kobe. Bryant wasn't the Mamba yet and didn't have the mental discipline to deal with MJ on the court. We should count ourselves lucky that MJ didn't face Kobe when both were at their primes in a championship series. Michael would be liable to break Kobe mentally if he had to just to win. Kobe would have shot LA out of that series, and would get traded the next season as a pissed-off Shaquille would point out that he didn't get enough touches because Kobe was bent on proving (and failing) that he was better than Michael.
That team was NEVER a superteam…A superteam consist of 3 Current Allstars on the same team…No-one called the Bulls a superteam back then…Ya’ll love to try and revise history
It wasn't a super team. Having Rodman on your team with 2 other superstars won't make them a superteam. You could put Rodman on ANY other team at that time and they will be lucky to make the playoffs. Nobody was gellling with Rodman and nobody got the best out of him. When he got with the Bulls, and playing with the GOAT, brought a rare opportunity to do something special. Only MJ would have garnered the respect to get the best out of Rodman cus he had the clout that Rodman respected and woul listen to
Agree. No player dominant insde the paint like Shaq yet. I have said that to my players and friends ever since the 3 pt era and fast line up began. It will only return once a very dominant inside force arrives. The line up will change to adjust to the inside game and the game will become more balance(inside and outside game). Problem is big players with potential to dominate the painy do not focus to be dominant inside the paint, instead they practice to play outside and shoot the ball at the 3 point line also.
People forget how Rodman played against Shaq. Rodman gave Shaq problems because Rodman wasn't intimidated by his size. And Rodman's mental game was unbeatable. In the end, the Lakers have no answer for Pippen. That's the difference in that series.
Dennis Rodman was the answer for Shaq, as well as Luc Longley and Bill Wennington who the Bulls had at Center to make it difficult for Shaq. The X factor would've been Pippen because the Lakers didn't have anybody to guard him. Pippen and Jordan would've taken turns guarding Kobe, which would've allowed Jordan to out play Kobe. The Bulls would've beat the Shaq & Kobe Lakers because the Bulls were a deeper teem.
That was Jordan's first full season back going 72-10 and 15-3 in the playoffs. Makes you wonder how those 2 years in-between 3peats would have gone had he didn't retire to play baseball. Could he have 8peated or even 9peated (seeing how he might have wanted to hang on for 1 more season to surpass the 1960's Celtics 8 straight)? And if he did that, would LeBron fans STILL call him the GOAT even with him at half of Jordan's titles?
Jordan himself believes not. A 3peat campaign is incredibly tough on the body and the mind. They would probably take a L in 94 or 95 because of wear and tear and assuming they reach the finals Houston was a very solid team with an all time great center. I'd even say there's a chance they drop one of 2nd 3peat rings since the team would be different had MJ not retired
I doubt it. They would have burnt out physically and mentally. MJ was under pressure with his gambling habits, the death of his father and press attention. I think he really benefited from that year off, he rediscovered love and motivation and that void allowed Pippen and Kucoc to grow
@@hiitsme3039we'll never know, but I doubt it. Rodman was old, Pippen was injured, Jordan wasn't getting any younger. 98 was the hardest ring, and Duncan and Robinson would be a new unique challenge.
Had Jordan returned earlier in 95 season Krause probably could've got Rodman or another legit power forward and then the Magic would've been swept and we'd have gotten epic Jordan vs Hakeem finals.
No answer for Shaq is often said, but Shaq teams were routinely taken to 6-7 games (or swept)....dominant statistical nightmare, yes, but his teams were routinely challenged. Those Indiana, Utah, and Portland teams were a handful, but aren't better than GSW (or the '16 Cavs). Full respect to B Shaw, this was a great pod 👏🏽👏🏽!
Dude you are spot on !!!!! Shaq was a monster no doubt but the bulls defense was so elite they’d bother him for sure !!!! No question people forget how nasty Rodman and pip and mj was on defense the thing is Kobe was nice too but both of them not getting off vs the bulls it’s one or the other
So it was Nick Anderson who was the root to MJ going back to 23. No wonder he choked at the free throw line in the Finals. They say ball don’t lie. I guess the ghost of 23 don’t either.
Jordan was off almost 2 years, and only played the last 17 games of the season when they lost to the Magic. And the Bulls were not doing great. They had a 34-31 record when Jordan returned. The next full season with Jordan the 3 peat starts again.
Between Jordan and Kobe cancelling each other, Rodman still gets his rebounds and Pippen makes up the scoring that Shaq produces.. Harper shuts down Fisher, Kukoc handles Rick Fox. End of the game heroics goes to Jordan. Close second goes to Kobe because his Jumper is not as consistent as Jordan's.....
That speech reflects the defeatist attitude of someone who hasn't even tried to compete. It's reminiscent of the narratives we often hear from players who faced Jordan. Had they not harbored such defeatist mindsets, the outcome would likely have been very different. In boxing, Evander Holyfield's victory over Tyson serves as a prime example of what can happen when someone refuses to be mentally defeated.
If Shaq was the NBA’s Superman then Kobe was definitely Batman. Bro knew everybody’s game, didn’t really like many people(he did but didn’t really show it on the court) and you gained his respect by playing tough and working hard. Always training.
Kobe does not cancel each other....MJ is superior....Kobe won a championship missing 2 games and averaging the same amount of prints as Austin Croshere.....cut the BS😊
aside from the Bulls sweeping Orlando. The prediiction at that time was that if Chicago and Orlando would meet in the ECF that the Magic would win, regardless that the Bulls just won 72 games. When they met in the ECF, there were a couple of games that the Magic were leading by 18 or 20 in the 1st half but for some reason fans that are not rooting for Shaq or Penny or people in Orlando felt that the Bulls will find a way to win those games.
B Shaw's memory a little foggy. Anderson said that statement after Game 1 with the late game steal off MJ that led to the GW dunk and then MJ came out in #23 in Game 2 to drop 38 points I believe. But he's right that it triggered a switch going into 95-96 esp Horace Grant getting carried off on the United Center court
Little known fact about that ‘95 Bulls-Magic series: after changing back to #23, Jordan scored a combined 65 points in the second half of game 3 (I think) and the first half of game 4 (30 and 35 points).
5:55 interesting perspective considering he had Shaq on his team when those same Bulls swept them in one of the biggest margins of victory for a series ever.
95-96 Bulls are the Greatest Team ever coming from a Laker fan. They handled Shaq & Kobe in 1996, 1997 & 1998 so what are we talking about? FYI: Don't piss off Black Jesus!!!
The scary thing about those Bulls teams was that they could turn up level 1000 defense when they wanted to. To beat that Bulls team, you need overwhelming offense and matching defense imo.
No one cancels MJ out so I’ll give the edge to Jordan vs Kobe. The Bulls played against Shaq many times and in the playoffs. Not saying the Bulls would stop him completely but Rodman always did a good job guarding Shaq and with the Bulls other centers that would keep Shaq in check. Other than that I don’t have a problem with what Brian Shaw said.
MJ fan here but Brian S well spoken dood.. No problem w/ he said. I actually prefer 91-93 bulls because of the quickest 3 men rotation in MJ/Pippen/Horace. Their full court trap use to give people hell. MJ could literally kill the other team. I give lot of credit to Rodman and Kukoc and their team was more seasoned than 91-93. But I admit, prime shaq was handful and mean. It would have been good match up.
Where the Magic messed up, they celebrated raising Horace Grant in the air like they won the championship in front of the Bulls. MJ always took in game and post game celebrations personally. Thats all the motivation the Bulls needed to sweep the Magic the following year. Great take by Brian Shaw.

Kobe Jordan canceling each other out? Stop it. The main difference between Kobe and Jordan is efficiency. Kobe never shot 50% in a season. Jordan shot that for his career. Hate to bust you guys bubble.
And Kobe would of tried to go 2on 1 with Mike, and would have fed right in the hands of what Phil wanted to do,Shaq would of had less touches, penny played better in Orlando with Shaq than Kobe did

#45 hit different…😂💯
Brian Shaw made alot of smart arguements...absolutely a blessing to listen to a justified and logical explanation...
People out here talking about how the Magic beat the Rockets in the regular season, and trust me I didn't like the trade for Drexler at first neither, but what they did, will probably never be done again, by winning from a 6th seed, being .500 under and sweeping a young stronger team. I feel Jordan was elated with that, and couldn't wait to get his turn at the Magic.
“Jordan and kobe cancel each other out”
😂😂😂😂
Sure
The interesting part would of been Shaq but Rodman had been locking him down for years

MJ sticked with the Bulls; He didn't joined another superstar. He didn't complain. He didn't cry. He didn't flop. He didn't load manage.
He changed in GM2. First game Bulls we’re about to win but Anderson stole ball from MJ and then afterwards talked trash about 45 not being the same as 23. So MJ came out wearing 23 in GM2 still in Orlando and Bulls won that game.
Yup. MJ dropped 37 in game 2.
He forgot to mention that Horace injured his shoulder in game 1 and was out the rest of the series. That was the biggest blow on the Magic vs Bulls
🤫
The biggest blow was a well oiled MJ. Losing Horace hurt but it was over

Rodman was the real difference. Thank God the Bulls got him. I really don't think there's any way they're winning 3 straight again without that guy. For sure brought his drama and still had his moments but he was the difference

Brian Shaw w legendary stories. Great Interview GOAT George!
Jordans mind state was second to none miss that competitive mentality of going all out miss it

Also he omitted that H Grant was injured during the rematch series where the magic got swept. I still think the bulls win that series but it would’ve def been a different dynamic.
Bingo
They still would've been swept, bulls blew them out bad with Horace in the line up
Well Rodman did stop Shaq in that Bulls sweep of the Magic.

Once the BULLS added RODMAN that following season, and formed that (BIG-3 SUPERTEAM ), it was all over

Only MJ would have garnered the respect to get the best out of Rodman cus he had the clout that Rodman respected and woul listen to
They were not a super team. They only had one all star MJ I think
@@tajgibson8776 that means the 2016 CAVS werent a Superteam, because LEBRON was the only ALLSTAR Selected that season
5:48 no they don't 😂.
Love Kobe ,but he was never on MJs level offensively or defensively
Who cancels scottie
Dennis Rodman was the answer for Shaq, as well as Luc Longley and Bill Wennington who the Bulls had at Center to make it difficult for Shaq. The X factor would've been Pippen because the Lakers didn't have anybody to guard him. Pippen and Jordan would've taken turns guarding Kobe, which would've allowed Jordan to out play Kobe. The Bulls would've beat the Shaq & Kobe Lakers because the Bulls were a deeper teem.

Jordan could play with anyone. Him and Shaq would have never lost. Kobe was almost the same exact palyer as MJ
Of course it's Nick Anderson what hasn't he done to mess up the Orlando Magic
Lmao!😂
That 45 mike jersey is classic
Also, it’s not easy continuing to build roster. Eventually they have to refresh players and not every trade or signing is guaranteed to work.
Jordan said he probably lose but he said he would had have 7 rings because he believed they would of won in 99 if everybody came back
@@hiitsme3039we'll never know, but I doubt it.
Good stuff.
Jordan was off almost 2 years, and only played the last 17 games of the season when they lost to the Magic. And the Bulls were not doing great. They had a 34-31 record when Jordan returned. The next full season with Jordan the 3 peat starts again.
I remember seeing Shaw playing on the lakers, but I ain’t know he was THAT old with his career lol
MJ and Kobe do not cancel each other out. Kobe was not that good early. The Bulls swept Shaq so they proved they could beat him.
It’s illegal to bring back Jersey numbers. YOU CANNOT DO THAT (bring back retired numbers). He paid a fine FINE for that shit…🖤💛🖤💛
Shaq definitely missed the question, he said the warriors with KD not the 73-9 warriors
I loved penny but I thank the magic every time I hear this story 😂😂
Rodman could guard shaq….Toni kukoc would be the X factor
*Shaw started talking gibberish when he said Kobe and Jordan canceled out each other. STOP THAT!!!*
Shaq couldnt make a free throw. How does that work in very close 4th qtr games?
Intelligent analysis.
However i noticed people always forget about Toni Kukoc and his abilities
I understand promotion but its still funny how PG wearin a shirt of himself lol
96 Bulls won 72 and turn around in 97 and won 69 games. That 97 team was a mfer as well
I love the fact that aint nobody has an answer for Shaq. Like he says. Too big. Too fast. Too strong
