@@icetraigh do you commonly see that mistake? I don’t go into many comment sections, so I haven’t seen it. What’s your experience with the misuse of “than” like?
I strongly think that characters who are mean and narcissistic can be very fun to watch, especially when there is no half ass tragic backstory and they don't care that they are horrible people. That being said, you can't make a character like that but have the show claim they are a good person. Embrace the villainy or have the protagonist be decent. This clearly did neither.
This is basically the reason why Rick Sanchez worked as a protagonist despite being almost the same in terms of attitude and d-baggery. Velma is portrayed as a "good guy." Rick is not. Rick is a questionable figure at best. Morty is who the audience is supposed to empathize with and he works as the audience's proxy for liking Rick. If Morty wasn't in the show to do that, Rick's character would be insufferable to watch no matter how cool the show is. We'd basically just be watching him be a dirt bag to his family while bullying Jerry and going on whacky adventures in-between.
That's why I adore Zuko's character from Avatar TLA. While Zuko had a tragic backstory, the narrative itself never forgives him for his negative actions until he himself reflects, takes accountability for them, and grows past them. The closest the narrative comes to using the tragic backstory is in the early story when Iroh is contextualizing Zuko's treatment of the helmsman and his crew. Which honestly could just be handwaved as explaining to the audience, as it's our first experience with that plotline. Yet even then it's during the storm that nearly claimed the life of the helmsman had Zuko not risked himself to save him that make them respect Zuko as their leader. Not his tragic backstory, or his Uncle playing defense for him.

The funny thing is Mindy Kaling recently came out and said that the show was made out of love for Scooby doo. Yeah she loved Scooby Doo so much that she got rid of him.
Realistically, I think the issue came about because they couldn't think of any creative way to have the actual character of Scooby Doo work in context of the show.
I really can't believe how these shows are ramrodding in a second season when the first season is barely even in infancy. They truly have no molecule of knowledge in regard to pacing, comedic or commercially. It is already shaping up to be a failure, but they still are willing to sink in a few million to make this the 2D rival to Batwoman.
Whoever wrote the hashtag joke ended up accidentally making themselves sound like the very thing they were attempting to mock. Which I think is a very good way to define basically the whole show.
I haven't watched the show, but every review I've watched, none of the "jokes" they've shown come across as actual jokes. I'm reminded of the Simpsons episode where Homer gets a spot voice acting the new character on Itchy & Scratchy. There's all this hype and buildup, and then the reveal is his character is just a pathetic collection of dated buzzwords and catchphrases trying way too hard to be cool. The joke is how out of touch the character is. Everyone hates it. Every character on Velma feels like this only without the self realization of parody. They actually think it's good writing, not a parody of how bad bad writing can be
Admittedly I haven't seen the show either, but I can't get past the blatant laziness. For years people have been making jokes about Velma's sexuality, Fred being an asshole, Shaggy being a perceived pothead...the writers just perpetuate these annoying tropes while having the gall to claim them as their own.
That's a big part of its awfulness. Its fans claim it's satire but even if we grant that (and I think it'd be generous to do so), it's either bad, obnoxious, far-right meme-warrior stuff or it doesn't do enough to say 'This is satire!' and comes across as the thing it mocks.
@@UncannyValleyVideos I feel more like they just forced the sexuality part just for some “relatability” factor. I mean people that watch this show watch it because it’s like a spinoff of Scooby Doo right? Why take Scooby Doo and just change everything about the characters? Surely they know what nostalgia is
In What's new Scooby Doo, Daphne was pretty resourceful too. She made a car battery out of a water bottle, a hairpin, and a double A battery in the Desert Race episode
@@PerpleX_Plays Oh for sure, and in the OG Scooby Doo everyone still has their quirks. Velma notices things others may overlook, Fred makes traps and helps with the strats, Daphne would accidentally fall into traps the baddies made which gave more clues while Shaggy and Scooby had insane luck.
It breaks my heart that those artists did so well with the WORST scripts. Manoman, I wish these talented artist/ animators a profitable future despite being tied to this trash show
They could've saved the show by tackling the harshest crimes out there, like a ghost that commits hate crimes, or a werewolf who's a serial sexual assaulter, but *shocker* it's really the creepy guy who's local version of Radio Shack went under and he swore vengeance for years at the local City Council. Shaggy knew this was coming and tried to warn the group for years but they'd replaced him with Norbert or whatever tf.
Adding onto how Velma is a lot like Rick Sanchez in this show, I think a big reason why characters who are made to act like Rick so often fail is because the show they’re in fails to recognize their actions as wrong. These characters will do things that are very much in line with things Rick would, but the difference is that only Rick’s actions are called out and portrayed as bad, and that makes the other Rick-inspired character look tone deaf.
@@notmything6629 I was just watching it so speak for yourself, and while the accusations and evidence about Justin Roiland being a POS are damning, it doesn’t mean I don’t still love the seasons we will have with him for years to come. @@notmything6629 tbh all this is making me interested in watching future episodes and I’m someone who dropped it after season 2. I really can't believe how these shows are ramrodding in a second season when the first season is barely even in infancy.
@@UncannyValleyVideos "lazy, uninspired, and unpleasant" seems like a pretty good summation of the tone of the entire script
Surely they know what nostalgia is
I feel so bad for Fred and Velma's friendship they've had in previous series, he and Velma were two of the most resourceful in the group.
Velma was definitely the MVP of the group, while Fred always came up with great assist's
In What's new Scooby Doo, Daphne was pretty resourceful too. She made a car battery out of a water bottle, a hairpin, and a double A battery in the Desert Race episode
I like your username and pfp, it's really cute!
@@chillcursed They were a great team, the whole group brought something to the table in their own way too.

The animators animated cp in the show. I hope they seek hell not further employment
@@c.fyffe0 what
@@adamlane6453 There's some shower fight scene where all the characters are covered with bubbles anime-style
Why don’t they hold writing to the same fucking standard they hold production/animation?!
Rick and Morty has done so much damage to animation and what's considered humor.
I genuinely feel bad for the artists because I wouldn't even want this stain on a resume even though it is visually appealing.
it's not even visually appealing. The artstyle alone is what initially clued me into the fact that it would suck.

Arby’s beef and cheddar, use the tools you got to solve the mystery? I want more content! Damn that was freaking funny.
Rick and his creator are cancelled.... nobody want to see it anymore when the original voice actors episodes are wrapped
There’s just something so interesting about a channel having enough faith in a show to keep going after firing such a seemingly huge core piece of that show.
I’ve seen a lot of people saying that Justin hasn’t even been in the writer’s room for some time (which, again, just sounds like a positive) so it makes sense that adult swim could think they could keep going, but it’s still interesting to me.
