It's nice to see a developer show honesty with their community, it's the foundation for building trust. I am happy to know the background of the Kickstarter and I agree with your decision to keep the scope of the game reduced to a single player.
But I still don't see a hook for the game, will it be focused on exploring a procedurally generated world? Or a campaign with NPCs and dialogues? In each video, you should remember what makes your product unique.

And I've watched the devlog of the game sapiens. There the developer said that one mistake he made is that he first made the game singleplayer and then tried to expand it to multiplayer. It is pretty hard to split up the code after it is already implemented. My tip for you is to keep the first game simple and make the second game multiplayer. That would give a way better end result. Especially since the server/client divide must be planned from the very beginning. Perhaps there are some Unreal features I'm not aware off which already create a server/client in the background without you being aware of them, but I wouldn't count on that.

Looks sick, keep up the good work! I think particles effects would be a good idea for a more responsive feel, especially when you double jump

Hey m'dude. I'm not really a pro or anything but I've seen iterations of melee combat systems in Unreal where the developer just attached a trigger volume to the weapon mesh and applied the On Hit Event when it naturally collided with enemies as per the animation, instead of creating a trigger volume when you attack. To avoid applying damage when not attacking, he just disabled the volume on begin play and would activate it when attacking and deactivate it when the attack animaition was over. I don't know if it's more performant, though. But it is really precise.
I like how you can easily see what your strengths are, some really fancy animations, but fuck giving the UI actual icons :D

My thoughts : if its more story focused it should be better as a singleplayer game to give the player a personal experience.
But ofc its your game so you can do whatever you want really.

Looks awesome! Dropping multiplayer is probably the wise decision, it looks like the game is still going to be great single player and you'll be able to finish it in a more reasonable timeframe.
Im sure you're already inspired by DMC, but I highly suggest you add juggling, air combos, and some hitstun when you land a heavy attack. Also, you should take a look at fighting games for snappy and satisfying hit effects. This is looking great so far!
Would love to play a game like this with online co-op. Imagine a party of four going through the campaign together. I understand it would significantly increase the workload, but would be extremely cool to see, and pretty unique, too
Yeah it would be really amazing to have something like that. Hopefully one day we get to do such a thing
It looks amazing for just two new developers. Keep up the good work. You can even do procedural generated map if it is going to be RPG type, this way every players experience will be different and every time you start a new game it is a little different, especially if you introduce different characters like mage, knight, paladin etc.

How can I achieve combat that style? Are you using triggers for the animations ? And for the animations, are they purposely slowed at the end of each attack?
I might do a video on how we actually do stuff like that. But yeah we use Triggers inside the montages and we do slow them down at the end so that they can transition well with other animations

Hi, friend, I have some tips for you:
About the kickstarter only do it when you have a big enough audience. Otherwise it'll be just as waste of time.
About early access, only open it when you have a enjoyable product to show, ideally the content should run for some hours. Many games suffer from bad reviews from the early access because the developers just put the game out too soon.
About gameplay, I urge you to take a look at dragons dogma combat, it's weighty and perfect for open world third person games.
You spoke about the golem, one game that does neutral mobs really well is gothic 2. Most montlster grow and bark at the PC before attacking like real animals. So consider taking a look at this game.

Combat looks suuuuuper nice, but i feel like some smoothness could be added in the walking and attacking

That gravity setting looks wild. Does it only apply to the player or can enemies space jump like that?
This gravity is only for the character, the goblal gravity is a bit slower but it does not look out of the world : )
How about hit, fall and run animations, Like blood splatter or kicking up dirt. Is there going to be sounds as well?
Those combo's (starting at 2:31) are soooo smooth. Did you guys hand animate all of that?

3:10 I remember hearing that making it do an enemy has a timer on how long it is before they can be hit again fixes that, but I have 0 experience in game dev so don’t take that too seriously

Mmmmm one of the things you gotta do is believe in yourself that you will make it no matter what. If you think negatively all the time it will cost you a lot in the long run. I have been doing RUclips for a long time, about 6 years and I still doubt myself. I am new to game dev but I do put a lot of my time into it when I can. Go and get it comrade.
