- I have been full-time living and adventuring in my Prius since the Winter of 2019/2020 & now, I am picking up on Mom in New England to join me, living in my car! This isn't where my travels began though, I have been traveling full time, and even working as an international tour guide since 2015! So I am taking her to all my favorite spots in the USA! In this video I share, all the essentials and non-essentials, of: how I pack my car for one & all the add ins, preparing for two people! I also share some tips and favorite products to help you prepare for an EPIC ROAD TRIP, whether you do this full time like me... or just for a couple day over the weekend!

I have to ask, where is your personal protection? A young woman, on her own, in America in these times would prudently pack protection. Also, have you ever had your car weighed with, and without all the stuff? With the weight of the Prius battery and your "stuff" I would be concerned. The load rating is only 845-860 pounds. Just curious. That includes passengers and items. That would leave only about 600 pounds for all your stuff.

I appreciate the simplicity of this "car life". No fancy custom vehicle needed. And there's even space for books and bikes 🙂 love it!

The whole point of this travel phenomenon is enjoying yourselves. And in her prepping for the journey and recording it and the altruistic goal of giving back to her mom. She is truly enjoying this one-in-a-lifetime experience. Go daughter! :)

The real point of this is that thousands are doing this by necessity and making the best of it. It's a real testimony to people's ingenuity they can pull this off while having most of their shelter needs via a possession they already have. If you can install an inverter in your hybrid car, you can have cooking, lights, wifi, water pump, refrigeration, and device charging thanks to the hybrid battery and how the engine automatically tops it up. I think you can do this with other hybrid vehicles but don't quote me on it. I think I slightly larger vehicle would be more comfortable. I love my Prius and am going to try to get the inverter put in so I can provide backup power to my home in case of power outages, which is probably cheaper than purchasing a generator or solar backup system. The more videos you watch on this, the better your planning of your own system will be. There are some incredibly ingenious people out there willing to share their ideas. You just have to hunt them down.

I've been on a few trips with my 34 year old daughter, honestly the memories of these fun adventures will last a lifetime!

Amazing amount of stuff and so organized. I have been traveling a little over 2 years with my little dog Tinkerbell in my 25 foot class A motorhome filming and living my dream after beating kidney cancer. I've traveled through 9 states and gone 30000 miles. I am amazed at you guys traveling in such a small space!

We used to take road trips from TX to CA in an 85 VW Cabriolet. With myself, mom and two sisters. My little sis was still small enough to sleep on the floorboard in back and we’d lean the seats back over her and older sis in the back seat. We never got a hotel room and would shower at state parks for free when we told the gate we were “just going to look around”. Not the most ethical but we didn’t have much and it taught me to be resourceful.
Bear Spray is something every girl should have. It works. I happen to know.

It was very organized! I have to admit I almost started thinking this might be just a joke about how many things she needed to take with her! But nice video, very engaging, well-edited. Usually I can't stay with a video 25 minutes, but this was interesting all the way through.

@@NikkiDelventhal hey I had this same exact car..and I just wanted to see if you knew about the secret compartment underneath the center console that pulls out..like a drawer...if u knew then sweet .if you didn't now you have even more storage lol!!!!!...and I know how much you can fit in that car .I used it to move and I was amazed how many boxes I can make fit in that thing!! :)
@@NikkiDelventhal there is a drawer like compartment underneath the console where you rest your right elbow when you drive..not talking about the space when you lift up the center storage space but it's actually underneath that....you can look where you pull it out with a flashlight if your looking for it

I am amazed at how much stuff you got in the Prius. Imagine how much you can fit in a Mercedes sprinter van. Safe travels🙌

Do you have any plans to prevent going homeless? The difference from homeless and nomad is the nomad wants to live in a mobile vehicle. Its the best thing I ever did!
ditto for so many now, and the lucky ones have a car and legal license. Sad days, my son is out there with no car now, in winter, east coast, cannot stay with me, I am not the home owner, lord help so many.........

I love this because whenever I watch these videos I feel like people are always underpacking and scared. This may seem like a lot to aspiring minimalists but I wouldn't feel safe and prepared without all the things either! It's nice to see someone bringing all the stuff they want with them :D

Very creative way to pack! I lived in a Sonata for a few months traveling around the southwest and had SO much space. I always wondered what the smallest vehicle one could live in would be. Now you've answered this question by showing your lifestyle in a Prius :)

There is something so satisfying about packing everything you need for a journey and heading out. I drive a lot out of state to visit my parents and I used to stop at hotels and eat out. Since COVID, I quit making stops and now pack everything. Food, bedding, shower supplies (if it’s warm enough) I love it, and I cut hours off my trips.
Ngl just found this channel and I actually find these videos unusually thought provoking. She seems like the most intelligent, articulate, likeable, and accomplished person, way more than most people with high-end jobs and houses. Like you can tell she could do anything she put her mind to, and the fact that she chooses to live this lifestyle - and seems unusually happy - really makes you think. Clearly a *really* talented individual, and has dispelled any sorts of preconceptions / stereotypes I had about people with unconventional lifestyles... Keep going and being such a nice and cool person!

I'm still fascinated. I used to do this for a living, packing up homes for people to get ready for the movers. You are better than I was. One thing I use constantly is contractor trash bags. I put all kinds of stuff in them at home even now. I live in a hurricane zone so they can be used for so so many things. Carry a few with you. Lightweight and could cover anything in a huge rainstorm.

I live vicariously through you young kids. I wish I would have done this years ago. I wanted to tell you that the Dollar Tree carries almond milk vanilla on the shelf. It does not have to be refrigerated until you open it just in case you would want to stock up. God Bless you for loving your mom so much to make sure she has all she has. My 4 kids estranged me 8 yrs ago.

You still can. I started at 62 and still learning and still loving living in my 2014 Toyota RAV4. Low cost and WOW what sites I have seen.

So cool, backpacks are an awesome way to travel because you can literally have all your stuff organized in them and if you want to do a backpacking jaunt you can just park your car put on the pack and off you go. We camped in nearly ever national park on year doing so, campsites were taken but "back country" camping was pretty available. As you said being organized is crucial.

Having road tripped with my parents and kid sister in full sized and minivans from the time we were just young’uns up until Mom was too disabled to travel a few years back....... I’m impressed with how much you fit in that little car!

I loved the video! Your relationship with your mom reminds me of the one I have with my mom! We’re super close and very similar if I ever could get a van it would be fun! I also love you mentioned the leave no trace ethics I end up doing that too but I think it’s important you make a note of it cause a lot of people don’t clean up after themselves whatsoever so good on you :D

What amazes me is that you can remember when all these things are when it comes time to look for them. I am an organization nut too...but I bow to the master!!
I do share your use of the plastic bags, zip lock bags to organize like items and keep them from "escaping" to parts unknown, and the plastic tote boxes. But I did learn a lot from all your ideas.

we have been doing this pre-covid with model 3, we are using a rooftoptent (I-kamper sleeps two) and our 12y/o son sleeps inside the car with dreamcase mattress.
