    Beautiful pictures and beautiful content! I especially loved the skyscraper scenes. I could feel your excitement about this new camera through the video. It's always exciting getting a new tool that works even better for you. That's how I felt when I upgraded to my newest camera, it was like stepping into a whole new world of possibilities.
    I see a lot of people on forums talk about "this person shouldn't use X camera" or "this person shouldn't use Y camera" I say screw it. If you can afford it and you'll love it then buy the camera you want even if all you decide to do with it is take pictures of fire-hydrants. The world can pound salt as long as you love it and you're having fun! Keep shooting, and above all have fun with that new and exciting camera. Best wishes to both you and Axel. As always I look forward to your next video and seeing you have fun!

    Glad you got the Z9 bro. I also own the Nikkor 40mm f/2 and also the 28mm f/2.8. I took these two lenses on vacation with me this past week and was blown away by how good they are. They don’t look much but they’re better than my previous equivalent focal lengths from years past. I mostly used the 28mm, another thing that I wouldn’t have guessed that I’d be doing. Even portraits came ok as long as you keep the subject in the middle. Blown away by these lenses… and the Z9 of course. My other lenses are all f mount which I use together with ftz2. They perform better than on the D810. Focus is great. I’ve just updated the firmware to 2.1. This should make it focus more on the eye. I did get some eyelashes in focus when wide open. Yet to test this. Welcome to the club buddy, I’m just as impressed.

    Amazing how the tools we have available are evolving; I'm still waiting to step into the Z line from DSLR (neither the 6 or 7 have been very compelling for me and the 9 is out of my price range). I've been using an Olympus EM1X which actually has some similar features but is...not great in low light. I'm hoping some of the features and technology from the 9 trickle down to whatever the next version of the 7 becomes. How, in all that mixed lighting on the city streets, do you find the global shutter deals with flicker frequencies and etc.? Any strangeness with that not having a physical shutter? (Oh, never mind...I'm now listening to the part where you are talking about this whist I'm typing).

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 года назад +2

      I agree, digital camera tech has come a very long way. And I'm sure the next iteration of the Z6 and Z7 will have some of this tech. At least the CPU (for focusing) and the EVF. Regarding the shutter, in the mixed up city lighting I have no had any issues at all. But indoors in a venue with high frequency LED lighting, there are some issues. However, Nikon recently released a firmware update that allows you to increment the shutter speed by very small amounts, so you can end up with shutter speed like 198.3 or 68.7 or whatever. This helps find a 'correct' sync speed for the given lighting. I actually used this feature last night at an event. And it worked quite well! :)

    It was really infectious watching you gush about a camera, since everyone knows you really mean it. Do you find yourself missing the feel of a mechanical shutter sometimes? I use the ES when doing street on my Fuji X-T3 when I don't want the person to immediately react before I get another shot in, but that lack of tactile feeback takes away just a little bit from the enjoyment(then again, Fujis are really tactile cameras overall). Anyways, hope you enjoy the honeymoon phase with the Z9 and thanks for another great video!

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 года назад +1

      I admit I do miss the sound and vibration of a strong mechanical shutter. But this is purely an 'aesthetic' feature. A silent E-shutter can only improve the photos in a technical sense. Glad you liked the video! :)

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  Год назад

      Not too much. The Z9 weighs about the same at the Z6II with the battery grip and two batteries in it. It is a bit heavier, but it also has a good hand feel, so it's super comfortable to use despite the weight. Actually, just yesterday I had two gigs in a row and spent 9 hours shooting with the Z9 and various lenses (all big heavy ones, like the 70-200) and it was fine. I never felt particularly tired of handling the camera. My knees on the other hand... but that has nothing to do with the camera and just being on my feet all day, haha.

    about your comment regarding banding at 25:19 -- I don't see any banding on my Z6ii when using the mechanical shutter. There has been issues with banding on the Z9 in those scenarios but Nikon recently released an update with a workaround for those. I think it requires shooting in manual to use.

      Yes we shot this video well over a month ago before the 2.1 firmware update. I actually had a chance to try it out in some high-frequency LED lighting and it worked, though it was tedious to find the exact right shutter speed (something like 138.9 or whatever). I will need to go back for dinner at the restaurant where I experienced the banding along with both cameras and do some tests. Or maybe I can recreate the scenario at home with some cheap LED strips or something. :)

    Woah, I would love to try some absolute top-of-the-line-flagship camera as well, probably couldn't justify buying one.... I had similar feelings (and still have) about my Sony A7C when I bought it at the end of last year, autofocus blew me away and overall the camera felt like I had some kind of alien technology on my hands compared to my ancient A7 II. I've been wondering would purchasing even more advanced camera make a difference in my shooting but I think A7C is already more than I would ever need, it's probably more than what most of us would need.

      I can easily hike with it. This is because my goal is photography when I am hiking. So, I don't mind carrying an extra 1kg over some smaller camera. I would not bring a ton of lenses though. I guess pricing varies depending on the region, which makes sense. A Leica Q2 in Spain costs 5400€ in most stores, 5695€ on Leica site. The Z9 Costs 6500€. The price on the Q2 seems to have increased though, as the US price is $5795 while originally it seems like it was $4995, so in the US it's also more expensive as of now because the Z9 is cheaper by comparison to Europe ($5495 for the Z9 in the US). The Q2 includes a top tier lens with that body/price (which is why some people consider this a steal for a Leica, since a Leica lens like that alone could cost almost the same as the body).
    Obviously it's still extremely expensive. But my point is that it's not a good comparison, as they're far too different of a camera. I recently got a steal on a used Q2 Monochrome and I love it, but it would never substitute my Canon setup, they're just different but amazing cameras (This goes for the color version too, it's just that I got that one).
    That said, the Z9 is a beast. People who are already Nikon shooters and want the best of the best and can afford it, can be asured that the value itself is great and it performs as it should.
    On another note, I'd love to see you rent a Q2 for a video, be it the monochrome so it's even more unique or the standard version, I think you'd really enjoy it!

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 года назад

      Ah yeah, it must vary. When I checked a US site, the Leica was 6500 and the Z9 is 5500. And I know it's not a good comparison. I was not comparing the cameras, just making a statement that people spend insane money on very specialized cameras, so the price of a Z9 is 'reasonable' because it is an extremely versatile camera. Renting a Q2 might be fun! :)

    I guess he likes the camera. Not a bad vid for a mode-dial distainer😁. Smartphones have all electronic shutters, too. When you remove the lens, is the sensor exposed? Is the e-shutter a “global shutter” - processing all sensor data at once? LED stair pics my fav, along w/uplook shots at about 7:51. How long have you been using the camera - how many shutter actuations? A six-month follow up vid would be appropriate, IMO.
    BTW, I believe the correct term for the drum rim shot is “ba-da-boom”😂.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 года назад

      Haha! Smartphones do, but their sensors are tiny in comparison, so it's much easier to do fast read out, and still smartphones have rolling shutter issues. The Z9 is not a global shutter, but it has extremely fast read out which mitigates most rolling issues. The sensor can be exposed when you take the lens off if you want. There is an option to put down a protective curtain when the camera is turned off. I have this option enabled. I only had it for a few weeks at this point, maybe a month. I don't think 'actuations' are really a thing with this camera, since there are no moving parts. Ba-da-boom, haha! :)

      It’s the same. But also not the same, because the Z9 has a stacked sensor it’s read out is basically instant, whereas the Z6 has rolling shutter that will be visible with fast moving things

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 года назад

      It's technically the same thing, but the difference is the sensor read-out speed. The Z6 E-shutter causes lots of issues with fluorescent lighting, which is extremely common in the city. The Z9 has almost no issues. It just comes down to the read-out speed. :)

      Only phones have the forced-noise, but it’s not a law or even a rule - just common practice. A dedicated camera will never have noise added arbitrarily, as if people see a camera, they can expect that it’s being used to take a photo. Unfortunately the forced-noise of a smart phone pretty much makes such a device worthless for taking candid photos of your own children, because they will start making dumb, standard poses almost immediately. So you have to make that first shot count.
