I enjoyed your reaction to Angelina. Toby Gad is a multi Grammy award winning songwriter and producer. He has produced award-winning hits for many of the biggest superstars in the music industry, including names like Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Demi Lovato, Beyoncé, and more. He has recently produced an album of his top songs called Piano Diaries. As co-writer, he invited Angelina to perform If I Were a Boy with him at piano, and with cello. It was also released with a music video, but many prefer the piano version. The song was originally made famous by Beyoncé in 2008, and has received over 600 million views. Most believe Angelina's version is much more intimate and emotional, and she has reimagined it rather than covered it.
Toby and Angelina also have been working on some original music, the first of which is a pre-release that you are reacting to. Bad Valentine is a jazzy, soulful, and powerful song that is perfectly suited for Angelina's voice. I think it has great potential to be the launching pad for the next phase of Angelina's career. Toby Gad is very influential in the industry and this collaboration is undoubtedly a huge break for Angelina.
I am so glad to see Angelina working with someone like Toby Gad. If Angelina has trouble with anything it is writing the kind of catchy songs that will go viral. I think that she can produce such songs and maintain her artistic integrity, it isn't easy to do. Once she has a few of these songs the songs she already has out will get more attention. Taylor Swift had a lot of catchy country and pop songs in her early career but most of her chart-topping songs from later albums are more mellow and folksy but obvious she already has her audience and fan base so she is free to produce and perform these songs.
Small bit of info, the piano player (Toby Gad) is the original writer of this song (along with BC Jean who sang it first), he wanted to reinvent a number of his famous songs and invited Angelina to sing this for him and there are a number of versions of this available (one here in the church with the first minute acapella but fully live to capture the acoustics). Also they are writing together and have a new song "Bad Valentine" that you can find on James Thiels channel. Nice reaction and like your musical knowledge.
Beyoncé sings the song extremely well, turning it into a mega-hit. Angelina takes us deep into the song, where we feel every word, and live every emotion conveyed by the message of the song.

Nice reaction! On the piano is the co-writer of the song, Toby Gad. Just to let you know, the other co-writer of the song, BC Jean, was the first to sing the song as well as the person the song came from. The man that she was in love with had just broken up with her. Per Toby, he played it for Beyonce one day and she really wanted to sing and use this song, and the rest you say is history. Angelina and Toby have been working together for a while now and are creating new music for her to sing. The main difference between Angelina and the rest of the world, aside Her Incredible unique voice, is that She has a way of interpreting any song She sings and convey the true emotional side of it giving the right enphasy to each word,syllable,vowel,consonant that is unmatched by anyone else I know of. Yes there is a great difference in the emotions of the versions. Beyonce is more intense whiney and Angelina shows us more of the strong woman and tells us how she wants the boy do for her, but he's just a boy 🙏❤

I like your take on the two versions. To boil it down I felt like Beyonce's version was more like she was upset and felt angry and in Angelina's version was more like she was directly telling him what she felt--so what you said.😁 There is a new original by AJ and Toby "Bad Valentine" with an authorized version on James Thiel's site. This was written v BC Jean with Toby Gad reflecting what happened to BC. Toby opted to “re-invent” some of his better known hits with the voices and instrumentation he wanted. He requested Angelina as she invokes such an emotional impact to her presentations.

Actually, Beyonce covered this song which was co-written by BC Jean & Toby Gad & originally recorded by Jean. However, the original wasn't well received, so Toby Gad played it for Beyonce, she loved it & the rest is history. Now Toby Gad is revisiting some of his hit songs & having young new artists re-interpret them in his latest album, Piano Diaries, which just came out. He chose Angelina for this song & she "killed" it, IMO. I find this version much more emotional than Beyonce's hit version, which I don't really like. I love this version!!!

I love Beyoncé. But I didn’t enjoy IF I WERE A BOY and it was played relentlessly. It sounded almost whiny esp in the higher key. Angelina‘s emotional, gritty storytelling voice hits so hard. I feel like I could listen to this 1000 times and not get tired of it.

Actually Shawka, Beyonce did a cover of the original by BC Jean (co-writer with Toby Gad) of this song. You are definitely not the first to believe this is a Beyonce song...seems most make that mistake. Regardless of who sang it first, this here is simply the best version of this song I have ever heard, even though I may be a big AJ fan, the ears never lie. BC Jean is the original artist. Beyonce's version is more plaintive to me where Angelina is more declarative. Both of their versions are an improvement on the original just due to their greater vocal prowess, but for me Angelina's version is the best one by a wide margin.
