- Fishing for sharks from the beach and land requires specific education. In today's Surf fishing for sharks video I detail some tips and some of Florida's regulations. Species like Blacktip Sharks, Spinner Sharks and Bullsharks are all common to encounter from the beach. Additionally I show what baits work best and how to catch them. Hope you all enjoy this awesome day of beach and surf fishing.

*bait flies off*
Ryan: *Aw shit, t-try to play it off...*
Audience: Although we know, it's alright. It happens to the best of us.
Lmao I swear that was just the guts! I still had a bait 🤣🙃
@@RyanMorie are you sure 🧐
@@christiangirard6634 is he sure?
Watch it in slomo, you can check that only the guts were flying off

I was an uneducated beach fisherman. And studied every aspect of the sport so my 8 year old son and I could catch monsters at the beach. We love and respect the animal, love and respect the beach and always pick up any trash we come across. This summer since watching this video we have caught over 10 shark on the beach. Just last night my son landed his PB Bull shark in OCMD. Just over 5' and probably about 85lbs. He worked for over 45 minutes. Fish is the shit!
Great vid man! I have to agree that it’s the challenge and the one that got away that keeps me coming back 🤙🏽
Great information. Thank You. I wasn't aware of the Land Based Shark Fishing Course. Nice job catching those spinners jumping from shore and your drone footage was beautiful.
Thanks for watching my friend! 🍻
There is a course to take however there is a lot more that is required by the FWC which he did not go over nor follow.
Thanks for the education on shark fishing. I will be taking the course tomorrow.
Thanks for the tips. I didn’t know about the shark course!
Dude you casted your bait off. LMAO
Nah that was the guts flying out
@@fives645 still that's the best part because it's what attracts them.
Probably seeing his weight and bait hit separately since he is using a sinker slide setup
Story of my life !
Hope y’all are ready for an awesome year! I’ve got some awesome trips planned 👀👀👀
Thanks for the info, I am about to start my shark fishing journey . Also great idea with the weighted floater and trailing small spoon for fresh bait.
Great video! I really appreciate the information about the Smart Shark fishing course, FWC should sponsor this video!
Had no idea about the shark course, thanks
I really like the idea of having a course on shark fishing. We really don't need ignorant fisherman.
Yeah it's required for anyone that paddles out a bait or otherwise targeting large sharks (since poor release can result in fatalities, many species are protected/ technically supposed to cut the line if fighting a protected species, and of course they cannot repopulate anywhere near as quickly as most fish--- they reproduce at around the same age in years as us, and give birth to only a few every year
Of course I'm not saying sharks are rare/ all need protection-- seems to be plenty of sandbar, bull, spinners, etc. just saying their populations are more vulnerable than most fish
Took the course a couple years ago or so, quite informative and fun actually (quiz at the end is sort of difficult but not impossible, have to get 100% and can retake it as many times as needed)
@@Dman9fp this is all good information but you are slightly wrong. if you are fishing of land for sharks. no matter if you’re casting or paddling out you have to have the permit and take that course. it’s completely free and very informative but it’s a must if you’re fishing from shore. that could be new since you took it but i know now it’s called shore based shark permit. something like that. all shore shark fishing is included
Another option to not get frayed off: take some nylon coated cable, some hollow core and make cable wind on leaders, the good thing you don't need to go heavier than what you need for strength, while with mono you have to go very heavy to be relatively safe
for people intereseted in that bobber rig, its called a snapper popper in tackle shops. small bluefish are called snapper bluefish here in the northeast.
Really enjoyed the video. Thank you.
Awesome videos and good times!!! ❤
Ryan, watching your videos last year was awesome. I would say you are off to a killer start for 2022! I can’t wait to see what you have planned. Happy New Year and stay safe brother.
Thanks for watching Ed!
Probably a good idea to take a course on angling in general. Also, always be ready to help novice anglers.
Do you have steel leader then 100lb mono or is your mono going to braid as well? hard to tell from the video. thanks
Just wanted to say I’m enjoying the vids. Keep it up
Dillon🤪
Tip-Top......Thanks for Sharing....
What pound line do you normally use for black tips and etc?
Nice video brother Happy New Year
Hey Ryan,
I grew up on the original Juno Pier and try to make it down there every summer and fish a bit. I'm coming down to the area in Feb. Do you have any suggestions on where to fish and what to fish for that time of year?
Thanks for the videos, brings back so many memories!
The black tip migration will be goin on at that time and that’s one of the most fun fishing you can do. you can catch them all around the beach from Stuart to Jupiter to West Palm and Juno. Highly recommend it 🤙 they’re really close to the beach too so you can see them in schools of thousands it’s crazy!
This video was fun, surf fishing is cool
What main line type and tensile strength and how much line on the spool?
I'm in FL too & I'm looking to go Start fishing and I'm certified I just don't know where to go
Just curious, what's ur favorite shark for table fair?
Loved watching the bait fly off 😂
Looks like vero Beach. Lots of snags to lose sharks on..I usually run up the stairs to our place and fight from altitude
What rod? Do u use for sharks?
I fish for sharks from pier but i feel like some knowledge wouldnt hurt, im from california can i also take that course ?
my leader is 300 pound wire covered by 100 pound mono along with 400 pound kevlar composite braid line
The education is also good because it helps anglers recognize when others are breaking the law. It's not snitching when you call the poaching hotline. PS: I love the Spheros reel you use in various videos.
Can u make a toturiql on how to make the popper type rig
What rod and reel size are you using??
What is the combo of your rod and reel?
I'm in the mindset of leaving the beach better than how I found it! Me and my wife are picking up trash in our idle time waiting on a hit, cleaning up what others are leaving behind and including what washing up from the storms!!. Lets keep the beaches clean people!!!!!!!!!!
Im trying to study up on my shark ID skills so what @ 9:55 told you it was a Lemon and not a Black tip?
Did you take the hook out of the lemon shark and not just cut the line?
You guys are lucky you can fish for sharks in the daylight hours here in South Australia the rules and regulations regarding fishing for sharks and rays are so strict . 9pm to 5 am are the hours that you are allowed to target rays and sharks also there are some locations where you cannot even target them during thease times . Good vid keep up the good work.
Lots of regulations out there it seems!
Pretty smart G Queensland should be like that I shark fish but only fish after 5pm Or in an estuary cause If you're swimming past that time you're an idiot asking for something to happen.
what rod are you using?
Had about 3 swim throughs 2 weeks ago off of NSB.
I have better luck grabbing my spool to sink the circle hook on pickup, then have very light drag like we use for king mackerel. I notice you slowly tightening the drag pretty early into the fight on several. The tighter its gets the more they roll(spin)in early fight. Then again I don't have to deal with reefs, I'm sure that's a curve ball.
I literally just took my shark smart fishing course got the cert and added it to my liscense now for some youtube lol
what rod were you using in the is video ryan?
Have you ever tried to butterfly the bait? Or do you usually just chunk it and call it good? Ive seen both! Wondering if you have a preference?
Personally, ill butterfly it if in using a whole fish, but if i an using 1/2 of a fish or something similar, I won’t bother. Ultimately, it depends on the size of your bait and size of shark targeted for whether you should use a whole fish or a chunk.
something bums me out about leaving hooks in release fish, I want the hook (money) and to save the fish from injury
Nice video, i agree
What time of year are you doing this?
How do I use my dji to drop bait?
Ya that course is so easy and you learn the basic rights and wrongs of LBSF
U sure it’s not breaking off because the shark just bites through that nylon?, where’s the steel trace
Awesome video, I'm going to be coming down to the Orlando area in about 12 days for a family Disney trip. My wife set aside 1 day for me to go fishing. I have been fishing in Maryland a bunch of times and I mostly target sharks from shore or a piers and have been unable to catch 1 bigger than 12". That's why i was so happy to learn that we were going to go to Florida. I have the equipment and will be taking the online shark course soon along with getting my license. I was wondering if you could recommend a spot to try that doesn't require a ton of walking to get there. From what I saw online the Tampa Bay area seems to be my closest and best bet. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY AND ALL HELP YOU COULD GIVE ME. THANKS for all the videos you really do a great job 👍.
bring back more land based shark fishing vids!!!
At least 1 more coming this month 👀👀
@@RyanMorie reach out to Gulf Coast Nation. I know those guys would collaborate with you!
Good on ya man
Why wouldn’t you have a 4k and throw a live mullet in the trough for a snook while you wait? I love all your videos man! Always really informative.
Yo I’ve started shark fishing off the south GA coast and the weirdest thing I caught was a lemon shark off half a stingray
So many more things to it in Florida than shown in this video. Minimum 80 pound line wise. Bolt cutters required. Can’t delay release for picture or video. I run somewhat heavy gear just to make sure I’m not breaking off all the time leaving line and hooks in sharks. A good setup to not break the bank. Penn senator 6/0 mine holds 1000 yards of 80 pound braid easy. To a 450 pound swivel which leads to 12 ft of 200 pound mono down to 3-5ft of 275 pound cable with a 12/0 circle hook. Hooks must be non stainless steel which allows them to rust out quickly if need be. I also crimp my setups to add extra strength rather than fishing knots.
where you using a wire leader?
I like to target adult leopard sharks in socal and some people get so mad when they see me bring one in even tho I release them.
So in my mind the obvious question is with the rig you were using you could catch a number of other big fish. In other words someone may not necessarily be short fishing but catch a shark. If you hook into a shark and fishing game shows up and you tell them I wasn't shark fishing I was trying to catch something else are you then going to get a ticket? In Carolina and Virginia the bait you were using we call cobs or mullet. We use that and spot heads to catch big drum Cobia and a number of other fish. Periodically we hook into a shark reel it in remove the hook and release it. Are you telling me if we fish in Florida and this happens we're going to get a ticket?
Sorry mate, but an FG knot ain't a splice, there are multiple versions of splices but in all of them the connection that actually holds the pressure works without any know.
is a 6500 big enough for land based shark fishing or should I bump it up to an 8000
I would do an 8000
8000-8500 Penn or 20000 size Shimano with 400-500yards 80 lb. braid.
Do you have to take the course every where In fl and if so where can I get it
Yes. FWC website for free
Check the video Description my friend! 🍻
Howsit ryan watch traces made by Ray Thompson "fmj" give it a shot would be interesting to hear your thoughts on it for your area as we fish differently for sharks of the surf
Didn't learn anything but how to make a cork lure sheesh man also Florida makes you take a class for land-based shark fishing 🤔
what part of Florida is this ??
What reel and rod was your friend using?? Pls pls pls let me know
Anwser pls
Nice shark
What lb braid
I’m not gonna lie to you I don’t have big pole so I can’t cast that far. The polls that I have are shorter and thicker so I normally kayak the bay out 200 yards.
Hey where was this?
East or west coast?
I pretty much quit/stopped doing shark fishing on the beaches like using 50w or bigger or 9/0 or bigger due to snowflakes and getting threatened by local PD and people's. But still doing it on bridges or piers
Im switching to heavier braid and leader, im sick of break offs.
Suppose to legally run a minimum of 80 pound. In Florida at least.
One scene the bait clearly comes off on the cast, did you not notice?
dude ive been broken off and hand my hooks broken by big ass sharks the last 5 times ive fished i dont know what to do anymore
Good video, what rod are you using?
Thanks Ryan for telling me about the shark fishing course I had no clue there was one and passed it in 2 try’s now all if have to do is print it out because I am under 16
Shark fishing from beach vids always cool when y’all do it! Tight lines from Gulf Shores!
Are you fishing the eastern or western part of Florida?
East!
@@RyanMorie awesome. I’m still a ways north of you but glad to know they have started coming my way.
vero beach??
Aren't you supposed to file off the barbs when shark fishing?
Let's go fishing one day
Who are you fishing with ? Does he have a insta yt?
6:50 I’m calling for a lemon shark 🤔
Who knows 🤷🏽♂️
there is still lots of bad lbsf fishermen who dont know how to take care of fish or the areas they fish
I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
Threw off the bait and still got hooked into a shark 😂
Is that a 1970s Mitchell spinning rig 😂😂😂😂😂 da fuq
Hi
That stall drag just makes me cringe.
4:16 casts bait off😂
🤣🤣🤣 I swear that was just the guts
All this and a 50 yard cast.
🤙🏼
I thought you weren't supposed to take the sharks out of the water according to the rules.
Only certain species
You can always count on other people to ruin everything
florida fisherman dont use wire when targeting sharks ?? hm
Why didn't he fry and eat the shark??
Same reason he didn't fry and eat you. Amongst other reasons I can think of but won't bother you with.
