Man..I wish I could meet Jess in real life, as she sounds like so much fun to be around and talk to. Was rooting for her as a fellow Bay Area native. While she had to rehash some of the sad and cruel memories from the island, she was still smiling and laughing throughout her exit interview. Please bring her back on your podcast Rob! Jess truly deserved to be treated and respected better as a player and human being.

She grew up in Toronto and Hong Kong, currently lives in SF
Her playstyle is so outdated. The game is fast paced now with just 26days. No time to experience the monsoon rain, building shelter, catching food. Wat they tried to do is bring back the trust element, which they brought in more feeling ppl than thinkers like jess.
Absolutely adore her!! I usually don't connect with a lot of survivors voted out pre merge, but she is truly special. I will be a forever fan of hers ❤

Alas our queen Jess getting shot down for the social crime of being Nerodivergent and a woman. We will love her, even if her tribe didn't give her a chance because of her 'vibes'. So many of us end up socially outcasted in groups like this because someone just reads our "vibes" as off. I don't blame her for just wishing it to be over as it suckssss to be stuck with people who have decided you aren't worth being treated like a person. Honestly people can be really dehumanizing to others just based on something as vague as "vibes".

My sister & I talked right after the show and we both thought they were unnecessarily mean to Jess. Also, why was Q so upset at the block challenge. He put the two shortest people in the center. It made no sense. Why wasn't he holding up the middle?

I wanted a Jess redemption arc. She was maligned for no reason. Jess, I loved you on the show, and was hugging you through the TV.
I think jess ended in the wrong tribe for her personality. I think she would have fared better with the like of Ben & Charlie (yeah I think the green tribe would have been a best fit for her)

the thing that confused me the most was how much they tried so hard to get rid of her, coming up with all sorts of plans, and getting made when she doesn’t follow those plans that were meant to get her out. it was the 2nd person voted off, and she clearly has no social or mental connection to the game or players, so why were they wasting all their energy on creating a fake idol and all 😭

Excellent interview! Omg Jess is so righteous! Her merch is hilarious 😂 I really liked her, so I was thrilled she survived against Jelinsky last week. I knew she’d have an uphill battle if purple lost again, but knowing that she was totally fine to go at that point definitely softens the blow. I was half expecting Rob to invite her to join the 17th Place Club podcast. You should bring her on if you see fit.

Watching the first episode I didnt have much to base Jess off of. The second episode gave me and my father watching together a different outlook on her. We got to see how smart she was, and how she had the ability to read situations pretty well. I ended up really gravitating and liking Jess alot. It was an honor to see you in our screens!

As soon as Yanu lost, anyone who saw the first episode knew it would be Jess. The way things are going, two more losses by Yanu and we may have a Matsing situation where the last two people are sent into the existing tribes. that would be different than the last five seasons.

Becuase he had arguably the worst first two days I've ever seen on Survivor. He made EVERY mistake you could possibly make to make your tribe think you're unreliable.

@@rileyc2062 I would’ve liked to see Jess play longer. I wish she had played her shot in the dark. Most likely it would’ve failed, but it would’ve felt like she at least tried, you know?
it wouldn't have done anything for her; theyre not gonna work with her even if she idols out bhanu and she knew that. They blamed her for everything including their personal failures (Tiffany blowing up and then blaming Jess for it even though she dropped the cubes when they were close to finishing at one point) and I dont blame her for wanting to leave that toxic environment and go on a pre-jury trip instead.
@@GreenMagicMachine - Yes, why didn't anybody on any tribe think to go and get something to stand on. Most players weren't tall enough for that part of the challenge.

I feel like she didn’t really answer the last question about whether it was the people or the conditions. I feel like she’s saying it was the conditions (lack of sleep, food) because she had good moments with the people on her tribe? Regardless, as soon as she was complaining about sleep deprivation at the first tribal council, I knew there’s no way she’s a mom lol. Maria for example has kids & knows how to deal with sleep deprivation, no shade to Jess who is very sweet and funny.
I've been watching Survivor since the beginning, and this was the first time when I saw full-on transparent bullying and shaming. I felt bad for her and disdain for the rest of them.
I think she could have been great on a different season. This cast is quirky, which I love, but they are definitely out of the norm.

Blame producers for having Shot in the dark in the game not the players for doing everything they can to avoid someone playing it. imo Q/Kenzie/Tiff did nothing wrong. Fun watching Jess play tho!
As nice of a person she is (and I mean that genuinely, she was such a funny and interesting/likable character) folks need to just cop to the fact that Jess just wasn’t cut out to play the game. If she were, maybe she’d have adapted her strategy a lot sooner to ensure some semblance of plan for herself going forward. Kenzie tried to strategize with her and Bhanu, but she slow-walked it. At the challenge she was literally walking while others were giving it their all.
Ultimately the whole team was at fault for failing to strategize well, however Jess could have taken that opportunity to show her intelligence and take up that leadership position instead of wilting into the background. The nail in her coffin was the fact that the other team members felt she wasn’t giving the same intensity and energy as they were to win- you can tell they are all giving it 120% except for her- I don’t know how one can really come back from sth like this so early in the game when the tribe is already losing.
That said: all these people online saying she was being bullied must not have watched OG seasons (1-20s). This ain’t summer camp, it’s survivor!
She has said that she wasn’t sleeping and was really out of it. It can happen in the game where people just affected bu that type of stress more than others
Jess gives off too much grace and she forgives. It's just sour to watch and see the Yanu tribe creating a fake idol for one person just to vote them out. Just a way to let someone know they're not welcomed in the game and how horrible of a survivor player they are. I'm just not a fan of that.
Love Jess as a person but I do wonder if producers cast people knowing they’ll be early boots. It’s pretty obvious that she’s socially awkward and wouldn’t get far

I think she’s a good person, but again, what a horrible survivor player. The purple tribe was doomed the second Jelinsky, Jess, and bhanu were all on the same time. Whoever decided that while dividing the tribes just wanted to doom this tribe
She said that, statistically, Asians don’t do well on survivor. Didn’t Yuul, Yao Man, Tai, and Wu all do exceptionally? Obviously it’s probably different for Asian women, but she didn’t say “women,” she just said Asians in general.

Did I miss something? Were they that mean to her? I liked Jess, but it felt like this whole interview was about being the victim. Like dawg, it’s survivor, people aren’t there to make friends. Idk, must’ve missed something
I’m wondering the same thing. For 1 million dollars you’re supposed to outwit, outplay, & outlast.. that requires being tough.
I didn't read it as her potraying herself as a victim. In some ways she had cards against her, and shes just communicating that. She knows her odds and she knows the tribe wasn't substantially vibing with her. They were a little mean to her, but they *are* in a competition; that's gonna cause some tension. I think you're reading too much into it.
"I didn't suck at the challenges..." - Jess Chong | She is clearly the weakest member of a tribe that lost twice in a row.
"Why are they playing so hard?" - Jess Chong | So they wouldn't get voted out, perhaps? And so that you wouldn't play your shot in the dark?"
I have no idea why she didn't play the shot in the dark if she was so sure that the idol was fake.
Survivor is a tough game and she may have made better bonds if she landed on a different tribe that didn't have such a solid three.
For me, she didn't make compelling television but she seems like a sweet lady who thought a passive game would work early on and didn't have the relationship building skills to keep her safe. The only reason the episode was entertaining was because her tribe-mates made it 100% certain that she went home by creating a fake idol, while also not having to throw a spare vote on Bhanu that would sour that relationship.
