Bomdila is the headquarters of West Kameng District. The place is inhabited by tribes like Aka (Hrusso), Miji (Sajalong), Monpa, Sherdukpen, and Khawas. Its craft centres, monasteries, ethnographic museum and emporium etc. are must visits. One can also watch snow-clad mountains here, including the Kangte and Gorichen Peaks, the highest peaks of the state. Bomdila is rightly known to be a photographer's delight.
The main attraction for the tourists in Bomdila includes Bomdila Monastery, Gentse Gaden Rabgyel Ling (GRL) Monastery, Craft Center and Ethnographic Museum, apple orchards, Bomdila View Point, RR Hills.
Apart from the scenic landscapes, from Bomdila one can also ride along the scenic road to Tawang, and to Bhutan's border. In essence, Bomdila offers the true joys of nature in its different forms.
Despite its rough roads and tough climatic conditions, Bomdila is well connected with Guwahati (320 km), Tawang (167 km), and Tezpur (162 km). Although one should be aware of the landslides while traveling by road. The nearest airport is in Tezpur (Assam) where buses and cabs can be easily availed. The closest railway station is Rangapara Railway station (Assam) which is around 145 km away from Bomdila.
