There are elements of Tommy's distinctive picking, but the lack of a thumbpick and the open DADGAD tuning give it a subtle European flavour. Nah tommy is aight, but mikes abilities with the relay are impecable. Ive wat hed him and tommy play and mike hands down is better. No offense to tommy, he can play a mean 6 string
Tommy is great not knocking him but when it comes to music, just know opinions are like ass holes, everyone has one and us musicians are reknown for our opinions and egos

I'm always amazed at how clean your sound is with minimal scratching sound when you slide along your strings.
Well he is a beast…
When playing plugged in your eq and signal chain can make things really squely if you push the high frequencies trough the roof.
I am no pro, but Ive found that if you want that nice trebble without scratchiness trouble, leave the trebble somewhere in the middle and filter out the booming bottom frequencies. Clears up the mudd and saves your ears from the scratchiness. I will be silent by over the ocean is a song that uses that scratchy sound to beautiful effect tho. Tecnique matters, but you also gotta know the trickery
@@veglord4481 I'm an old lifelong musician but a Lead Trumpeter very rarely am I plugged into anything. I was commenting solely from a very audibly picky listener and part time sound guy. Many times regardless of the mix and filters the string scratch can really put a damper on the overall quality of the mix. Mike Dawes is one of those special players that manage to mitigate the scratch. I bet it's due to a combination of the particular strings he uses and his deft touch.....but I am purely speculating

How does he do these perfectly rolling runs? I can play these runs, they are not too difficult, but I never get this evenly fluidity. In timing yes, but not in sound. Amazing!
