The North Cornwall Railway was a railway line running from Halwill in Devon to Padstow in Cornwall via Launceston (fromi 1886 to 1967)

I’ve just watched and followed with my 1964 quarter inch OS map. Intermediate stations approx. and e&oe: Egloskerry 2.45; Tresmeer 4.55; Otterham 7.50; Camelford 10.30; Delabole 12.00; Port Isaac Rd 14.25; St Kew Highway 15.55.
I lived in Wadebridge for many happy years, but I never knew of a line going to Launceston. The line from Padstow (where I used to work at the Clipper Restaurant) to Bodmin is well known, and I've done it a few times on a bike with friends in my teens (like you do) ... but I'm now in Plymouth .... oh the treachery 🙃

This line to Padstow should never have been closed. If only one could get a through train from Waterloo as was possible c1950s then what better way to have holiday in Padstow without the hassle of a long drive by car?
It was short sighted to close these lines. It's easy to destroy, and difficult to build
As someone who lives in padstow I both wish it was still around but am also glad it’s not… padstow is already packed from too many people in the holiday seasons
Deliberately shut by the Conservative Party at the behest of their ACCOUNTANT "Dr Richard Beeching" told to recommend every loss making line. The Tory cowards wanted to trim the power of Rail Unions. Typically, now Tories throwing millions of pounds away into the sea at Dawlish. The Waterloo to Padstow line never entered a Tory head. WASTERS!
Give over and give your head a wobble. LOOK at what this line passes through. Farm land. That provided ZERO passengers to make it anything like a viable railway.

And I’m sure the 2nd holiday home owners that own WAY too much of Padstow would just LOVE to keep their Bentleys and Range Rovers back home in Chelsea and Kensington to be able to take the 100% taxpayer funded train from Waterloo out to their holiday home on the Cornish coast on a Friday evening.

@@tomd544 Me and my brother Jon have been tracing the route from Halwill Junction to Padstow. Bridge by bridge. We are now approaching Wadebridge. I have posted photos on The Withered Arm Facebook page. Watching this video has been so interesting as i have mentioned. We have walked a lot of the track bed where possible. We have also done the Halwill Junction to Bude section. Thank you for the reply
Would have been so much better with a running commentary! I am a 75 year old Cornishman with local Knowledge and I found this a difficult journey to follow. Otterham and Sladesbridge recognisable but. . . . how many viewers know these landmarks, so sorry, I have to criticise this as just half a job!
So many railways to cover with too little time. True it would be great to have some commentary. It would be great to have a true Cornishman providing some narrative. Perhaps one day I can persuade a friend to narrate all of my videos
@@tomd544 Buy a 1940''s GWR railway map on the internet (about £20). Gods Wonderful Railway stretching from Paddington to Penzance, all of Wales and up to Liverpool! You will instantly realise and educate yourself the crimes the Tory Government and the Accountant "Dr Richard Beeching" committed. Criminals! I learnt much what i know from the Internet but unfortunately some data is inaccurate and some local people like me remember facts.
