  • "We had no idea, no idea what was venture capital or even how to register a company, we just wanted to work together, to do something", is the candid reply from Kunal Bahl, one the two founders of the multi-billion dollar entity Snapdeal. Rohit Bansal, Kunal's childhood friend and the other member of the Snapdeal founding team, reminisces the fact that this high tech venture had a humble beginning when he along with Kunal started a non-tech, discount coupon venture which had "at best, medium traction in the market", quips Mr Bahl. As entrepreneurs, this duo has faced several ‘near death’ experiences - one of them being that there was a time their discount coupon venture wasn't doing well but they both stayed put and even had to pay their employees from their own pockets. Reflecting on many such 'near-death' experiences, Rohit Bansal says that at such times it helps greatly to have a partner who's calm and can console the team. When questioned about becoming investors for other start-ups Kunal Bahl says, "It's a great high to (start up a company), hope most entrepreneurs don't do it for the money but I think it is the most impactful way to spend our lives". On a parting note, Rohit Bansal humourously says “Starting a company is like asking a girl out, if you overthink it you'll never do it".
