How to value Chinese Antiques like an EXPERT
The Chinese antique market is booming. Chinese buyers are snapping up Chinese objects in Britain, Europe and the USA…and sometime paying eye watering amounts for the ! Forget estimates, these have no bearing on what an item might sell for. There are endless examples of Chinese items selling for hundreds of times their estimates
In this video, Charlie Wallrock (from Wick Antiques) and I are talking and valuing Chinese antiwues with a group of ladies from the Women’s Institute at Charlie’s showroom near Southampton, England
We take a look at a Chinese silver box bought in Hong Kong in the 1970’s or 80’s, as well as I give an example of just how bonkers the Chinese market is when I tell the story of a Chinese screen I sold in auction on behalf of a client. Plus, just out of interest, we take a brief look at a wonderful piece of silver sculpture by Vivien Mallock and Amy Goodman depicting Queen Elizabeth II riding her horse ‘Burmese’ at the Trooping of the Colour (priced at £125,000)

Ye olde honorific marks are a bit maddening. No idea of the box, but it looks 20th century for sure. I was in Charlie's ballpark for a retail price. That ugly screen sounds like a bit of a sleeper. Just a bit.(LOL) For y'all selling bits to Chinese buyers: Chinese ladies like bling that was never made for export to China. European designer bits especially, including costume. If it's bright and shiny and "exotic", off it goes.
