I would love to live in a house like this with so much character. It's unlike most luxury homes which tend to be too pristine and bland
It is all about the design philosophy. Classical design uses concepts of design that go back to era of the Romans. The Brent hull channel on RUclips goes into the details about such design concepts. That can be implemented into modern design.
It is to big for you
Used to live literally next door (Boldre Grange was part of our address) and visited often as a child. I learnt to ride a bike in the tennis court you see at 11:20, which is part of the property we lived at. I showed my mum this video and she asked “are the apple trees still there?”, she has fond memories of picking apples from the orchard. Wonderful video, I can definitely appreciate all the architectural detail and nuances now that I’m older. When I was younger, though, I definitely thought it was haunted 😂
Thank you for sharing
Peter Goodfellow?
It's the ladies that withdraw to the Drawing Room, not the men. The men stay behind with cigars, drinks and tall stories.
You are correct.
Where’d you get that bit of information…Downton Abbey?
The drawing room, essentially the lady's "withdrawing room," was usually the main public room of a Victorian home. These rooms were feminine, comfortable and hospitable. Places for receiving guests, they were platforms to show off one's wealth, culture and taste.
@@paulbright5081 Not really. My knowledge is from my family, upbringing and culture.
@@mal_752 Sometimes they would be called a Withdrawing Room but would usually be known as the Drawing Room.
Yay, coloured walls! Lovely to see the non-white interiors. It would be great to see how these places look later in the day, when evening light changes the internal effects.
For me I preferred the grounds more than the house. I think it would be good to live in with an extended family, because you could still easley split the property, but if it was just one family you would need to re sort out the rooms. You wouldn't need three kitchens and so many bedrooms. Making them into different uses. I think you would have to spend a fair amount to get it flowing better and still not looking like three different properties.
I suppose its because it was split into three and so three kitchens and lots of bedrooms 3 or 4 for each house
I would like to say something about the presentation. I have seen dozens of British grand houses on YT and your presentation has been one of the finest I have ever seen. There is a spontaneity and friendliness about you that makes the whole experience very pleasant and entertaining. I appreciate it when people make an effort to speak clearly and eloquently as you do.
PS: I shall start playing Lotto again, that would be my only chance to buy such a beautiful property. 😆😆😆
I agree, he seems genuinely interested in the property and it's history. Much more easygoing and authentic compared to other agents. Usually I tune out when people try to sell me a property and make up my own mind about it, but his commentary really livened the experience.
Extremely well narrated, in a truly beautiful, one of a kind, Country home. Well done!
Hi The vault label is 117 not 17 - The John Tann Company - 117 Newgate Street, circa 1900s. Rising to prominence in the 1800s - and best known for their 'Reliance' safe - the Tanns were the most famous of all Victorian safe-building families. The Chancery Lane Safe Deposit Company and Bank of England used John Tann products.
It’s in Ye Olde London near Covent Garden & The British Museum Can you add a photo?
This was an exceptional property and the story of how young fled and stayed here during the war just shows how much unity there was in times and gave great energy to the surroundings and I must say that the upstairs felt like an Escher painting. Absolutely remarkable.
I was lost from minute 5 😂......so many rooms. The history of this mansion is unbelieveable
Gosh, I love the big old houses! When you guys viewed Eden Castle, that was my favorite but this is a close second🤩
Really impressed with your recent videos - your presentation skills have improved dramatically over the last few vids. Good job Matt!
Thanks Mark, much appreciated 🙏🏼
Perfect for the billionaire with a large, multi-generational family. Needs a full-time cleaning staff and a full-time gardening staff. The new homeowner could provide lots of jobs for locals, including the local building trades to keep up with all the maintenance on this house.
I think it would be a nice BnB.
It definitely needs staff. Cleaning this would be impossible if it was just a couple, or even a multi-generation family.
The house , the grounds are great and all. But what I enjoyed the most about this video is the conversation. Lovely ❤
If you think I'm going down into that cellar at 1am you got another think coming 😂😂😂
It’s great to see the property put back as one! fantastic mansion beautiful,
🙏👍
Great showing. I really like the provenance of this home - the kitchen space, the great style living room, those windows ,the well-made wooden stairs, and last but not least the relaxing green space.🎉 The style is grandiose, like empire state of mind
I did enjoy this video, the fireplaces and staircase was beautiful. Plus you can see both Matt and Tom's boyish trait for adventure coming out while exploring the house, brilliant.
Hey, small paned glass was a thing of the Tudor/Elizabethan Era, which the home is a copy of, NOT Victorian era, by then glass was HUGE...just look at the older homes in London, New York, Boston, Paris, Manchester, Berlin, Rome, Marseille, Madrid, Stockholm....
Yes, and of course Crystal Palace in London. These boys don’t know their history, LOL. 😂
Yes that's more like it. None of that white walls, grey floors and chrome staircase nonsense in this one !
Splendid home for those with the means to afford it ! ❤😊
Brilliant video! What a house...I loved the amount of detail that you pointed out Matt. It really does look like a Nat Trust home.
Gosh I really love this one, can you imagine being a child growing up in a house like this? My siblings and I would have had a blast exploring and playing hide and seek. What a magical family home to create amazing memories.
Stunning countryside estate. Very warm and stately 🔥 that Tudor style reminds me of the Fairmont hotel style
This is so beautiful, no stupid lifts in the house. Well cared for and still looks like it should. Just needs a bit of decorating. Think the kitchen area needs to be bigger.
I won't have imagined that a house this splendid was just around the corner from my rater modest home. Incredible character, absolutely gorgeous !
NOW THAT HAS TO BE ON A WISH LIST!
GREAT CHANNEL!
You could play a serious game of hide and seek in this home!!! I love all the stairs and different levels!!!
Thanks Lads, another gem of a showing. Amazing Property.
I really love your presentation here, the details, history and information and the casual way of talking about it. It makes the space more meaningful.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful home with great history
9 million liability. The maintenance costs must be eye watering each year. I bet the sellers can't wait to get rid of it.
Damn I would not want to be responsible for getting this house ready to move, packing would be a nightmare!
Definitely at the top of the imaginary real estate portfolio 😊.
You guys have to continue the guy to guy tours!!! Enjoyed it sm best video on the channel 😄
Really beautiful home and garden - stunning
Victorians were more than capable of making larger panes of glass.
That was a very Alan Partridge like product placement at the start!
£9M for this amazing place or a 4 bed flat in central London. 🤔
Exactly
Thank you for the video love it more when you guys are touring not the agents who come time and time again
Magnificent home 👍
There's a series on TV at the moment, about agents selling luxury homes; it's an absolute joke how useless they are compared to you Matt, it worked really well with inputs from Tom behind the camera. Incredible house, I do wonder what the chances of it being kept unmolested are though
Watching that. The developer selling the 85 million house totally destroys period properties with tacky superyacht interiors. You would need a permanent maintenance man to keep all that high tech rubbish going!
It's so amazing, it's overwhelming
Stunning, you get a lot for your money
inside of the house is amazing
La casa esta muy bien , pero demasido cara teniendo en cuenta que necesita algunas reformas , respetanto ornamentos originales de la casa , quedaría increíble😍
Beautiful house, but probably freezing in Autumn, Winter and Spring.
Very interesting home and very nice. It is interesting to see the differences in house designs of the Victorian era and the house designs of today. Give me a traditional styled home but with modern amenities.
That balcony actually is a balcony -- it's contained under the roof, unlike the oriel windows that are so often called balconies.
What a lovely house 😎. Just perfect 👊😍
A bit arts and crafts. The slight Tudor panelling and chimneys.
Great home, one of your best videos. Would love to know the upkeep costs of the house.
That’s a lot of house!!!! Love it
So beautiful. Classic Hampshire, classic England. Jutes (Jutlandic Danish) settled in the Lymington area in the 500s CE, fascinating...
The fact it was a simple children's home a few decades ago says it all. New Forest has become very overpriced. I struggle to find anything to do around here, apart from sailing/horses. Have to go to Bournemouth and even that is an empty shell now!
I love this house ❤ Thank u
Exceptional 🙏👍. Great presentation 👏
Love it and the countryside and coastal village. I would have matt and tom as my butlers for eye candy. So much better value than rotten places in london without space and peace and quiet and flora like this to grow and enjoy.
I love looking at old world estate homes but honestly I’d never want to live in one. I hoping to get a tiny home some day .
Imagine being so rich you can buy 1/3 of a house reluctantly, buy out the other 2/3rds happily and then as to not spoil the view purchase another entire house witbout a problem, take the land and sell the house at a loss 😂
Imagine how much this would cost in Hampstead
Now that’s more like it!
Beautiful, I'd love to live there.
Beautiful house would love to live there🎉
Thanks!
Magnificent estate.
The room you called the Library was absolutely not originally used for that purpose…think it was the butlers or housekeepers office: the Library was one of the ground floor main rooms.
Interesting to see how the house looks now; it has been changed around a lot. But the views outside are wonderful :-)
Could be abit scary at night for a small family 😂
I love this mansion.
that tree!!!!😍🌲
Great show guys 👏🏻
Too cool. ❤love it.
It's almost too much house. The presentation is very well done and gives an excellent idea of how everything is laid out. You could rent out an entire section of the house and live undisturbed in the other portion.
I think you should start the tour at the front door and go from room to room as you come to them.
Although some of the “original charm” has been lost, a lot is still there. And it appears the major maintenance is up to date, which costs MILLIONS.
At 22 minutes in am i hearing a very very faint The Seed and the Sower or maybe the title track itself Merry Christmas Mr.Lawrence playing in the background ? Im 90% sure i am. 😊
Was it sold ? The link opens up to numerous of homes , makes it impossible to find this home
Those chimneys 🤩
How tall are you? For references on some of these doors and ceilings?
The house is amazing. The furniture and staging for the video is kind of bad 🙁
Let's hope the house has better luck selling this time around....recently spent a long time on the market before being removed.....The market will dictate if it thinks the new price is fair.
I want it! Can't afford it but really, really want it. Going to have to start buying those lottery tickets...
Such fun!!!
Ok, I'll have to watch it a second time, trying to focus now on the house.
Brilliant 👍🏼
Damn this is beautiful. Too bad I will never be able to afford anything like it hahahahahhaa.
Amazing house! As it was a childrens home I would be kinda scared it’s haunted though.
Brilliant home
A bit big for me and the wife, on the other hand i could hide from her for weeks!
Wife jokes, wow hilarious.
Two words : Money Pit. Why anyone would buy an old giant house is beyond me.
lm looking at possile invstmeny opporyuniyies
Looks banging although I'd be happier with less house and more land
Wow.
Last time I looked 10% of £9000000.00 was £900,000.00, not 1.8 million
It’s a warren of mismatched spaces, needs to be redesigned and reconfigured to be worth the asking price IMHO
8:22 the bee is a paid actor
I could live in the Arch!
I want to buy this house please! I keep playing the lottery! A bit disappointed that for that amount of money there is no indoor pool or outdoor pool and tennis courts… No green house???? Is the price negotiable?
Wow ….lovely, hard work though to figure everything out. 😂
Just wait until a super storm hits that 100' tree! It's alteady inclining towards the house.
This is what's known as an "Arts and Crafts" style house, William Morris being the most famous practitioner. it is actually a precursor to Art Nouveau and eventually modernism, it's neither Tudor or Victorian and Richard Norman Shaw might slap you in the face for labeling it as such, lol. Arts and Crafts was a reaction against the high ornamentation and falseness of Victorian era art and architecture, and although it may not appear the same to us today, was meant to be simple, honest and above all modern, fit for suburban, rather than rural life.
