2003 -- Chellsie Memmel was named as an alternate to the 2003 World Championships team. Due to illness and injuries to the girls who were on the team, Chellsie was needed to compete last minute and she led the team the USA's first world team gold.
2004 -- Despite a great showing at worlds and other competitions in 2004, she did not make the Olympic team. She did have a shoulder injury that prevented her from competing for a few competitions but she did attend the 2004 Olympic Training Camp and had stellar performances. She was named an alternate to the 2004 Olympic Team but she never got to compete.
2005 -- In 2005, Chellsie became the World All-Around Champion, beating Nastia Liukin by .001 of a point.
2006 -- At the 2006 World Championships, Chellsie tore something in her shoulder when she fell off the uneven bars in the second rotation. She completed her routine even though she was injured and went on to compete on beam and floor. She made an awesome save on beam when she landed on one foot. Without her routines, team USA would not have won the silver medal.
2008 -- She made another legendary comeback at nationals in 2008 and continued her dominance at the 2008 Olympic Trials. She made the Olympic Team and looked in great shape. She broke her foot (ankle?) 2 days before the competition in Beijing and could only perform on bars. This was a great loss to team USA and to Chellsie. The fact that she still competed with a broken foot says a lot about her character and determination.
2011 -- In 2011, she made yet again another legendary comeback. She came back as good as ever on all 4 events and was in great shape at Classics and both days of Nationals. Until the last event, bars, where she tore something in her shoulder and could not perform the rest of her routine.
2012 -- Chellsie had shoulder surgery and just 3 months later she came back to compete at the 2012 US Classic. Chellsie did not have to compete here. She was not fully ready. She opted to just compete beam even though she had a full floor routine ready (including a beautiful double layout, double Arabian, and 2 ½ punch layout). She also had a few skills back on bars and was looking great. However since she only competed beam and she fell twice, her petition to go to Nationals was denied. This meant she could not move on to Nationals and subsequently, the Olympic Trials which makes her ineligible for the team. Some people say she did not have a good enough performance at Classics to move on to trials which is true but her training videos showed she was capable of much more. For a girl who has not had an off day in 9 years, one slip up should not have been enough to kick her off the team. Especially considering she had only been back for 3 months since her surgery. For a girl who has sacrificed so much and given so much to USAG -this is a slap in the face to Chellsie and her fans. Chellsie is as tough as they come and a true legend in USA gymnastics. She has helped out numerous teams and won many medals for the USA. While that is not enough to warrant her a position to nationals, it sure as hell should give her a decent chance to compete. Especially when you realize USAG never told Chellsie or her coach that she needed to score a 14 on beam to advance to Nationals. This rule was given to Chellsie when her petition was denied. She fought for it. Even when she kept getting pushed aside. Who still FIGHTS after all the pain that must of put her through. She would defiantly be benificial to the team.

But seriously, if they won't give her a second chance, Nastia certainly doesn't deserve one. Just look at her performance at the Visas. But, to quote Andy Memmel, Marta has her little princesses.

Chellsie's career is not over well it is for gymnastics but she is now a power tumbler you know those people that tumble down runways. She is currently training for the 2013 world championships of power tumbling. :)
I really support Memmel and hope she will be allowed to compete at the Visas but i read an interview with Martha and she sounded like her decision was very final. I'll still sign the petition though
It is very interesting, that the closer the Olympic Games are, it is more visible that Chellsie would be very useful for team (Floor and Bars, Beam is also good), so they may regret denying her petition very soon. Seriously, when you try to solve "the Olympic puzzle" of 5 gymnasts team, if we add Chellsie (of course considering that she would be able to full difficulty; we saw at classics that she competed her worst event, but she shown serious skills on UB and FX), all problem are... gone.
I love Chellsie, and I did sign the petition, but USAG didn't do anything to her. Its not at all their fault that she didn't meet the requirements. She messed up. It happens to everyone and she knows it. I think she should definitely get the chance to petition and I loved this montage, but I just want to be clear. USAG is not to blame here
