Highlights of Chelsea v Coventry City, Middlesbrough v Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest v Derby County. Includes an interview with Chelsea manager, Ken Shellito.
Being from the east Midlands, Forest v Derby was the main match with shorter bits from the others. Our programme was called Star Soccer, presented by Gary Newbon. Who remembers?
Used to love the Big Match on a sunday afternoon after me roast, i remember watching something called The Protectors with Robert Vaughan just before it and Weekend World before that. Good times.❤
Ken Shellito didn't come across well at all here in the interview with Brian Moore. Not very inspiring and lacking in confidence. I don't think he really wanted the job and it's not surprising he failed.
Football was better in the old days. Except the pitches. And getting punched in the back of the head and concussed as a 12yr old from a fellow united fan who thought I was a leeds fan.
That Coventry away kit! 😍😍😍
It’s very similar to the Wales kit of that time. But they had an all brown away kit the season after. 🙈
@@Scottfree166looked similar. Particularly with Terry yorath.
My team, Portsmouth, had a pre-season friendly against Cov and the Sky Blues wore their Admiral chocolate brown away strip.
The brown one was much better
Olde Channel,
Thanks indeed for this exciting Big Match edition!

I remember. There's a Star Soccer floating around on RUclips somewhere.
The edition of Star Soccer from the same day is on RUclips. Just hearing that theme tune takes me right back.
Yup I remember that very well!!
Followed chelsea home n away since 74 and we never had a good keeper until Nedzwiki in 80s 💙

The theme to Weekend World was 'Nantucket Sleighride' by Mountain.
@@robbiethepict2783 'Hello,Good Afternoon & Welcome..'
@@robbiethepict2783 Terrific tune. Should have been used by at least one other region as their signature tune for their football round-up show.
@@robbiethepict2783A Nantucket sleigh ride being what the ancient whalers experienced once a poor unfortunate beast was harpooned.
All these years later still the best show.
There is nothing finer in football than a rousing rendition of "You're gonna get your fucking heads kicked in".
And it gets even better - a dog on the pitch!
Pub, out of town,Sunday dinner, big match, 40 winks, pub, in that order 🇬🇧
Brilliant the big match
Sunday afternoon in te seventies previous days
It waa Ferguson who did the pushing not Hutchison who was born literally 10 steps from where i grew up in Cardenden.
Funny they were still apologising to people with black and white TV's this far into the seventies
I’d say colour TVs were in the minority up to about ‘75 or so. It was new technology and expensive due to that.
Didn't have a colour TV till the 80s
...........and in Scotland , Celtic 0 Motherwell 1 . Partick Thistle 0 Rangers 4
