  • Robservatory Episode 4
    My review of the Antlia 3nm Pro narrowband filters for deep sky astrophotography. These filters claim to improve signal to noise ratio by increasing contrast which boosts the signal of the nebula and reduces the unwanted background and light pollution. Are they worth it? Better than 7nm filters that are much cheaper? Will our photos improve and by how much? These are the questions I set out to answer in this episode of Robservatory.

    I've had my set for awhile, plenty happy with them haven't seen anything negative about them at all, much more cost effective than Chroma so my budget is happy about that.

      Same here, I'm still very happy with the purchase and have no plans to look at any other filters anytime soon.

    I'm looking to buy my first mono camera (been using a stock DSLR) and I'm considering these filters. This was very helpful!

    Hey, sir! Just sub'd to your channel, and am enjoying your work. Just recently ventured into the hobby, myself. Lots to learn! Am interested in picking up a filter or two next in my purchase list, so this is helpful. Thanks!
    On a side note, I haven't read many astronomy magazines, (been mostly youtube videos and cloudy nights posts so far). But, I hope you've either gotten your "cover" photo, or do in the near future.
    Thanks!
    ... just finished the video ... looks like the brushed aluminum piece could be a laptop lid with the nebula on it.

    hello, just asking what size of antlia folter you use and what camera.. thank you and yiu have amazing photos of nebula

      Hi! I use the 1.25” filters with my 183, 533, and 294 cameras and 2” filters with my 2600. If you can afford it go with 2” filters because you can use them with any camera. If you are on a budget or only use smaller sensors then the 1.25” filters are a much better price.

    Great video, I am thinking to buy into mono soon. QUESTION - at 16:55 in the image of the pelican nebula, you seem to have a few halos on the brighter stars, any comments?

    • @Robservatory
      @Robservatory  5 месяцев назад

      Just poor processing. I haven’t gotten any halos with these filters. I have two sets of them now!

    Dedicated man! Now, you cannot drop below f4 with those filters.
    By the way, for NA nebulae, I think 7nm filter-picture is better. It contains more interplay between colors.

      I’ve been using them at f/3.45 and they have been performing really well. I just picked up an Edge HD 8 and Hyperstar at f/1.9 so I’ve had to buy some new highspeed filters for that setup. Apparently I have a need for speed!

    • @anata5127
      @anata5127 Год назад +1

      @@Robservatory Oh. You got f1.9 This is a way to go. Good luck in tuning Edge8 with HyperStar. Very tough; tilt, collimating, no more filter wheel for mono camera, etc. I rid of mine. No matter how I spun, the optimum for bortle7 came fast (f4.5-5.5) refractor with large glass or Epsilon Newtonian f3.3.

      Thanks, I will need that luck from what I hear. I have both a mono and osc camera that match, so I will mostly use the colour cam on hyperstar and mono on the back. Working on building an observatory so one I get it working I can leave it setup and not mess with it too much.

    Great video. I’m not seeing any star halos like ones I get with my Baader 3/4nm filters. I would replace my oiii if so.

      Thanks. I haven’t seen any halos yet. Replacing the Oiii is a great move, I recommend that to people all the time.

    Thanks for the review! I got these last week and it was nice to see I didn't make a mistake :) Any link to the images outside of RUclips on Astrobin on Flickr?
    Of note: I did find them to be fairly good parafocal with the LRGB set. I forgot to refocus when I first tested them and shot all 7 filters in a row and each picture came out quite well!

    Thanks for the review. A lot of people seem to like the Antlia set. I may consider them when I decide to upgrade my zwo set. Did you see any halo on the O filter?

    • @Robservatory
      @Robservatory  2 года назад

      I haven’t seen any halos yet, definitely a big improvement over my ZWOs in that regard. The real test will come when I shoot the Horse Head, but it’s not up in my area for a couple of months.

      Nice video thanks. I saw in another video someone said the exposure length had to be doubled going from 7nm to 3nm. Did you experience that?

    • @Robservatory
      @Robservatory  Год назад

      Thank you. No, I did not experience that at all. I have seen it mentioned by people online but it is not true in practice.
