- In this video I show how you can still do deep sky astrophotography under a full moon with an Optolong L-Enhance filter.

Hell yeah I’d subscribe to your patreon. You’re the only AP RUclipsr where I watch every video.
Astrophotography is the most expensive hobby😭😭😭
I would certainly subscribe to your patreon. You have been the most helpful of all the AP channels I've watched. You actually take time and show step by step the entire process vs others mainly showing off their work.
Your videos are awesome, so much valuable information, fun and entertaining. They have really helped me to get started in Astrophotography. I'm located in Perth, Western Australia, and our dark skies are amazing. I've been an amateur astronomer for over 10 years, nerds unite, but now to photograph it. Down the rabbit hole we go. 🐰 Yes, as a fellow muso and RUclipsr, I would join your Patreon. Clear skies. 🖖
Very well done Walt!!! Awesome details in spite of the moon. Thank you for sharing this video.
I think you should start a patron. Give it a go! Clear Skies!!!!!
Lots of likes for that Sun Studio T-shirt! 706 Union Ave., my former employer.
How about doing a video on the equipment, settings and imaging process on the Elephants Trunk Nebula image that You took recently.
I'd be happy to be your Patreon supporter if you show us how to process the image of Chevrolet logo. Just kidding!
Literally did this same shot, similar equipment and even the same target...Radian Raptor with 4Ti
If I didn't do astro photography around the full moon I wouldn't capture anything as most of the clear nights I get seem to be around that time. I use the L-Enhance which seems to work ok.
Awesome video! Have you photographed pleiades before?
"Find out, in today's episode of..AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!" LOL Pretty much sums up many of my nights of astrophotography lol.
You are a riot man...always look forward to watching your vids!
I've been wondering why you haven't started a patreon before!
Moon be damned! HaHa! I shoot with the same filters when the moon is out. Glad you showed everyone that it's possible! Excellent final image, and you should absolutely start up a Patreon account!
Great video. And I would be interested if you were to start a Patreon. Good work.
'Get a red box thing today and be a lazy #$%^ like me' you sire are the Mad Men of this generation!
Great result, Walt! However, I am confused about the "moonglow" issue discovered in Siril. I thought the Optolong filter was going to only allow Ha and 0iii wavelength light, thus making moon light a non-issue(?) Thanks again for an informative and entertaining video.
Since the Moon is reflecting all wavelengths of light your get extra Ha and 0III causing glow.
Sponsored in part by Chevy!
So…..I use most of this equipment noted in this video. I use my ASIAir in Station mode to connect to my home network. Also, if you like the L-enhance you’ll love the L-extreme (or the new Svbony dual band).
I was actually contacted by SVBony recently and they asked me if I was willing to try one of their filters. I might ask about that one!
One question! What's worse. Full moon or light pollution? Lol ..May be a video would be nice hahaha
I agree that would be worth a video. I don't live anywhere near a big city, but I have friends in lots of them. Maybe I can visit Memphis or Chicago and give this a shot.
I laughed way too hard at the alien and the comet
It would be nice if Optolong would make this filter for Nikon cameras like they do with Canon. I've sent then 4 or 5 emails to them about it. Still nothing.
Ugh! That sucks! Have you considered the ZWO Nikon filter drawer? I would be curious to see how well that works.
Hey Walt, can you do a tutorial on how you processed your image using the dual band filter. I find your tutorials to easiest to understand and follow of anyone on the net. I am using a triband filter due to light pollution and would luv for you to tell us the direction you went with this.
It will be out Sunday!
Just down loaded Siril.
Wow, 32C is WARM. How did you avoid banding on your DSLR? I have problems with mine at 15C. Btw it looks like the sunrise in the images after your meridian flip, or as you said, it's the moon closing in. Great photo and video!
I can't avoid banding! That's a real problem for me here! I've been trying to process Andromeda for the last month and can't get a decent image because of banding.
Also right after the meridian flip is when the telescope would have started pointing into the tree line. That probably had something to do with it
I have a T5i and it did the same thing with that weird artifact in the middle of the frame I just thought it was from the heat because I'm just south of you
What the hell is that?! That's so weird and random!
Thanks for posting, always find your videos really useful, would definitely subscribe to a Patreon
Thanks for this video! I've been curious about how well that L-Enhance filter works in moonlight. My old modified camera was full spectrum, and I had a clip-in L-Enhance filter for it. I switched to Nikon and had it modified, but this time with Optolong glass that is essentially the L-Enhance filter, with the bandwidths it filters out. But I haven't pointed it at any deep sky targets yet to see how well it does. My brother has my old one, so I'm gonna suggest that he and I try to capture the same target under a full moon.
Yeh defo set up a patreon or setup a membership program here on RUclips, I’ll be there 👍
Another Excellent video Walt! Well done. You have come soooooo far since your first video. Love you video keep em coming.
Great result! I'm out every clear night regardless of the moon phase. Some of my favourite images were taken during or near a full moon.
My favorite RUclips channel, waiting on the Patreon!
I am with you too! Great work and someone taking the time to go step by step for everyone that needs it. Fantastic!
Fantastic image. I have the L-Enhance and find it brilliant.
Great video man
Nice job buddy!
Excellent video Walt keep them coming mate
Hey Walt. Could you do a video of your processing of the Heart Nebula? My goal in astrophotography is to shoot the Heart and Soul nebulas for my granddaughter.
What software would you like me to use?
@@deltaastrophotography um, whatever is convenient. I have PS, Siril, Pixinsight, DSS. I have the GradientX and StarX from RCAstro.
I have been having cloudy nights nearly every night for the last 4 months. Turns out, i just needed a tropical storm to come by. Ever since then, the nights have been cooler and a LOT less cloudy. Hell, one night it even got down to the low 50's. I almost didnt know what to do with myself.
@@deltaastrophotography speaking of software, on DSS, the upper left box that has the options for adding lights, darks, bias, and flats, on mine it is blank. However, when I move my mouse slowly over it, the links are there, I just cant see them. Everything else is as it should be. Any ideas?
@@kevinashley478 I have no clue what's going on there. I just recently updated my version of DSS and it's so much faster! It's been 32 bit for years and now I finally got a 64 bit version and I'm loving it! I do all my personal processing in Pixinsight these days. I still occasionally switch to photoshop to do some fine detail work. I've been avoiding Pixinsight tutorials because the only one I ever did hardly got any views. People are always asking me to do things in cheap or free software. I'll probably do the Heart tutorial in Siril and Photoshop.
@@deltaastrophotography Yeah, i hear some other creators tout PixInsight as the greatest thing since sliced bread, but i can only handle learning so much software. I like starting in Siril and then switching to PS. I am still working on figuring out masking in PS.
Wow
Any chance you could try this on a non astro modded dslr?
If I have about five good clear nights in a row I might try it. But those filters block out nearly all light but Ha and a stock camera can barely pick up Ha light. Clear nights are rare in the winter so I try to take advantage to that time. I need a second rig for experiments like this 😂
@@deltaastrophotography ty for the reply, and you should definitely use your time how you see fit. As you say non astromod will struggle with ha so probably only get the oxygen light which is weak anyway
Brilliant as always and so easy to watch 👏
Wonderful video Walt
Any new work soon?
Yes! Sorry I had to take some time off. I'm back now and just filmed a new video over the weekend. Should be out by the end of the week!
Awesome image!
