Can we get videos like this for every ride that gets updated? Like when Pirates re-opens in a few months? Or maybe for Indiana Jones after it's recent refurb? Not only is it interesting but I think Disney needs a wakeup call when it comes to maintaining their rides and effects and videos like this will show them we do notice all the little things and will make them pay more attention. We need to show whoever is in charge of the maintenance schedule that we will call them out when they half-ass things like this to save time or money. Disney got us used to a certain standard and we need to hold them to it.
@@zorpsaturn7497 I mean they should have some incentive to at least keep it safe. How many times have logs sunk with people in them on the Florida one? Probably more than they're letting us know. And it's only a matter of time before our rides out here stop being safe anymore because Disney cares more about money than anything else. They need a major wakeup call and videos like this are just the first step.
I just rode yesterday, the first brer fox is in the dark again. and yes the laughing Brer Rabbit after the bees is still dark. I also don't recall seeing the weasles popping up in the laughing place scene. I don't think I will ever understand why Splash mountain is always in such disrepair , especially after a refurbishment. It is sad to to me that so many people have never gotten to see a fully working Splash Mountain in all its glory, like it was until the late nineties.
I tried to show the Weasels popping up in the video, but there really hard to see on video. I do agree about not being able to see the ride working 100%, I don't think I've ever seen everything working before
My guess is that the animatronics are just really old and worn out and were probably not originally built to be in such a humid environment. The ride has walwasy been finicky, even when it first opened. I used to work at Disneyland, superficially the Hunmgry Bear Restaurant when Splahs first opened and it would break down constantly and we'd get slammed everytime it did. But the animatroices were working perfectly fine during the ride's early years and I was working at Disney for a more than a few years after Spalsh opened and I'd go into the park often. But the first time that I went back to the Park and rode Splahs for the first in a long, long time, I did notice that a lof the aniamtrocies weren't working or were missing altogether.
Disney has more than enough experience and resources to maintain this attraction better than this. The shamelessness of the bean counters is inexcusable.
part of me wonders if they're budgeting their time and resources for this refurb since the next one is supposed to be a full retheme of the attraction to princess and the frog, but i can't say for sure. great video!
Yes! A lot of people don't realize that these characters were from America Sings. It opened nearly 50 yrs. ago. How often they change out actuators IS anybody's guess. With a water environment & things partially in and out of doors can create rust or other anomalies to constant moving parts. Then there is the software that runs it as well. Alice Davis (wife of the late Marc Davis) recalled having to use a fishing pole to put the hats on the Pirates after a fire a month after the attraction opened. She had to do this from a boat. Valves & pistons ain't cheap either. To make them electric may/ may not solve problem either.
I feel like the lighting overall in the ride has completely changed. Before the refurbish it looked a lot more dark and not a lot of lights were going on, but post refurb the lights are vibrant and it looks more cartoonish
A video like this makes you respect just how difficult animatronics are too maintain over time - age of the puppet, the parts, the environment and I'm sure none of the original mechanics and Imagineers who worked on them are even around anymore. Splash Mountain is an iconic ride but honestly, if the ride is always in such inconsistent states of functionality... a thematic overhaul may not be such a bad idea if it means a ride operating at 100% for the best guest experience.
Loved this ! Pirates always changes a lot of lighting and effect whenever there's a refurb, so I can't wait to see if you'll make a video once it comes back !
Hi Kris! I LOVE this video and would definitely love to see more! ❤️ Pirates would be my favorite when it reopens. I have a feeling it’s a small world might drive you crazy, lol. Something is always broken in there!
The biggest difference I noticed was the last lady rodent singing the sad song to the right, just before the the big lift for the final drop. Her face was cracked and practically falling off pre-refurb, now she’s got a nice, brand new, smooth face. Huge difference.
I find it tough to appreciate Splash due to it’s problematic nature, but I just rode Disneyland’s Splash for the first time last week and didn’t realize how differently laid out it was to Disney Worlds- feels like every scene was elaborated on in some way. Thanks for putting this together.
It is hard to fix any of these animatronics because they are over 50 years old, also it's hard to get them in and out of the show stages. There are multiple reasons as to why some animatronics are missing, but they take out one or two animatronics at a time so they can keep the ride going to prevent to many rides being down at one time.
I would like to point out that the mouth on the possum with a bonnet before the lift hill has been fixed. Before, around the cheeks there was horrible water damage but it seemed to look brand new last time I went.
we also need to know how old this ride is! This ride has been around for a long time, sometimes the characters and what I call tired lol. But, I know its probably hard to get the parts to repair them because of how old they are.
Post-refurb your color correction looks a lot nicer! 🤣 Yes! I love this style video. Keep up the great work! Question: did you use the same mic on your recent Splash POV that you used on your recent PotC POV? Is it waterproof?
@@LMGVids 🤣yikes When I said that I didn't see you'd just put out a potc POV. I mean the one at Disneyland I believe from... January? Is that still the same mic?
it feels like most of the parks have gone into a state of disrepair due to budget cuts from the new CEO. from my last few trips I've noticed the parks becoming less clean and maintained, the small world at WDW had inch thick layers of dust visible to guests last time I was on it and apparently it was after a refurb. ive seen compilations of trash all over in different cues, and they are removing things quietly every day all over the different parks. The parks just aren't up to the same standards they used to be and most of the rides are not being maintained. It's sad to see it go this way. Specifically fantasyland and the older "classic" rides at WDW are in horrible condition and it seems the crowds get larger every year. It seems like at Disneyland they are slowly working their way through fantasyland making repairs and refurbishments but other parts of the park like Tomorrowland are not being maintained as well. WDW seems to be suffering more from this problem than Disneyland as it is becoming extremely obvious at all of the Florida parks they have had major budget cuts and the prices for admission are going up daily. they're charging more for a lesser experience.
I don't understand why they didn't use covid time to go in and fully fix many of the issues with the rides that have gotten worse over the years instead of letting everything sit as it was for months.
Would love to see a video of your predictions for what Disney will do to Pirates of the Caribbean during the 2022 refurbishment at Disneyland. I can't find any info about this. Thanks
My prediction is that they’re redoing the queue to squish more people into that little courtyard, as for the rides I dont think they’re doing anything from what I can tell. Pretty hard to make a video around that, but maybe could make something similar in the future 👍
This was a very nice video, very well detailed and all. Just one thing, whenever you talk your mic has a shrill buzzing to it. You might want to get that fixed. Otherwise, excellent work!
Let’s hope this will deter Disney from re-theming it to Princess & The Frog. If they just keep reusing and reskinning the animatronics. If they keep using these almost 50 year old animatronics, it’s not going to look good on a brand new ride that’s for sure! I personally believe Disney should keep Splash Mountain the same, and do a proper refurb and overhaul to animatronics and parts. It’s a beloved attraction and is one of Disney’s most iconic rides.
This ride used to get you soaked. In the Florida heat people wait 90 minutes to cool off on this ride. This was an awesome video! Do you have any idea why (/when) they removed the hedge that covered the robotic arm that Brer Rabbit was hopping with? I looked at an old ride-through video recently to see how the rabbit moved back then compared to how limited his bodily functions are now, and noticed there used to actually be something to cover up the robot arm, and that it didn’t always look.. hideously obvious. I don’t know much about splash mountain, so when I found this video, I hoped maybe you or one of the other viewers would know where that hedge went?
I've looked through all my footage I've shot on Splash Mountain and it looks like all them still have the hedge. I haven't noticed anything that has changed with that area. I could be wrong, but it looks like the scene has stayed the same since 2012
