11/17/2022 Received my M1911a1 from CMP. Service Grade 1943 Remington Rand frame and a NO NAME reproduction slide..or so I thought. Research proved the slide is a genuine Colt made National Match Hard slide for a USAF contract in the mid 60's.. certainly changed my opinion of my "mutt" 1911. Thanks to CMP.
I received my CMP 1911 2 weeks ago. I was offered all 3 grades, and took the service grade. Mine looks like yours as for finish. I receive a Ithaca slide with a Remington Rand frame. Came unlubed. I completely disassembled the entire gun and removed the protective coating and hand oiled each part. reassembled and lubed it for firing. To date I ran 28 rounds through it. Runs great. My CMP number was; 13845
Got a rack grade last week by choice - all three grades were available. I really like the part where you mentioned how these pistols had been worked on by a certified Army gunsmith, etc. Mine is a fine example of this. Yes - it has a Colt frame and a Remington Rand slide, but someone matched them well - the slide fit is amazing. The HS barrel has great riffling. The trigger pull is about 6 or a little less lbs. I say all this because I recently saw a video where a guy had his $3K+ all original, never fired, as-new Remington Rand (that could never have seen any combat in its condition) and proceeded to describe CMP guns in a fairly negative light - he said, "parts just thrown together." No Sir - not at all. That's not even close to describing these war horses. These guns are history pieces. They've got stories to tell and they are great functioning guns. A very talented gunsmith hand-selected parts that fit and work very well together. I'd love to have a brand new museum piece too - but those are worship guns that you don't dare fire. I love mine and when the Wyoming weather breaks I plan to shoot a box thru it. Great video - I loved all the information and I felt like I was there with you and - I learned some new stuff. Thanks!
I received a call from CMP the first week of November 2019, indicating I was eligible to purchase a service grade 1911. I will be honest with you, I had almost forgotten all about the CMP 1911 program. It showed up on 13 November 2019, at my LGS. I stopped by and started the WA state required paperwork, which involves, in essence, another two background check. Making for a total of four background checks...but then, that is another the subject of another comment. I now have to wait a background check from my local LEO (WA state requirement) before I can take actual possession next week. So, I just had the quick opportunity to rack it, dry fire it, checking out the very fit and finish. It is a light gray, Parkerized US&S made model, the S/N correctly corresponds to manufactured year of 1943. I am looking forward to getting it next week, and checking out the rest of the pistol. YMMV.
I got mine with an Ithaca lower (1942), and a replacement Colt upper... I wish it had an Ithaca upper, but I’m lucky to even get one... the “G” on the upper lip of the magazine indicates it was manufactured by ‘General Shaver’ war contract
That is correct from the research that I have done. The slide has no markings, just series of some numbers. I am thinking that the slide was replaced when CMP refurbished it. It is tight, no side to side wobbling, nice refit.
@@genarino22 , CMP hasn't refurbished these 1911s. They are only tested and graded, Service, Field, or Rack. Any refurbishment and swapping of major parts like a slide, was done by the military arsenal etc before CMP recieved them. Mine for instance was rearsenaled at Aniston Army Depot in 1975. Then packed away in storage until CMP received it and then sold it.
@@ztug57 Thanks Thomas for the clarification. Let me restate to hopefully comply with your increased knowledge of the subject..."Someone refurbished, refinished my 1911s. My CMP has a 1945 frame and everything else is replacement parts from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Definitely not worth the $1050 I paid for the service grade where the only thing WWII is the frame.

I immediately replied yes and was asked for credit card info which I supplied. The pistol was shipped to my local gun shop and I picked it up from them. I have shot it and love it.

They are authorized to sell Up to 10k per year. This does not mean they will actually sell this many or that the Military will release them. There is a likelihood that a democratic president or administration will shut this program down in the future.

Suspect that a CMP 1911A1 costs a bit more than a new Kimber,or WC, or Baer. However, a big part of the reason I picked up the CMP was to own a piece of history, that may have been instrumental during WWII, and to support the CMP in their other Congressionallly-mandated purposes. As a 1911A1 from that era, it doesn't have many of the refinements of a new WC or Kimber. But then again, a new Kimber wasn't built in the autumn of 1943, when our country was involved a world war whose outcome was unknown at that time.
@@genarino22 If that makes you feel better, great, but the CMP 1911's were horribly overpriced. $1050 for a hodgepodge of parts thrown together doesn't seem like much of a deal to me.
So just curious are people buying the cmp 1911 to shoot them or to keep as a collectible piece of history? Just found out about the cmp recently through a garand video and I’m interested in buying maybe both a 1911 and then a garand, but are there even any left for sale?
