RIP Tim, he passed away today. He's the bass player for DGD. We have lost another great artist.
Watching this after hearing about Tim, I almost started crying when you brought up Taylor Hawkins. Thank you for loving and appreciating DGD as much as we all have. Much love to you Dance David
I thought he was going to say Tim… 😢
I just came back from Swan Fest this weekend and Tilian seemed off and wasn’t singing during certain songs, turns out he was actually Crying and left the stage for a moment. The audience sang for Tilian and we all felt his pain. We’ve lost a member of DGD, they lost a band member, a brother, a friend, and Sacramento has lost one of her proud sons. RIP Tim. Fly High Brother.
@@Callsign_Kishin i was there as well. That was a heavy show
@@sgman173 You could hear it in Tilian's voice. I never heard his voice that raspy, and then it hit me.
@@Callsign_Kishin 100% i didn’t notice it at first when the entire crowd was basically singing until i realized his voice never came back in. It was a really special moment Everytime the crowd took over though
Matt Mingus was in rehab for a while, DGD posted something on social media about it. They were supportive through the entire thing though, he was not kicked out. At least he's not trying to sell macbooks to his fans yet.
edit: they're in their mid 30s, they've been making music for over 15 years, though their lineup has changed quite a bit. I think it'd be fun if you visited some of their older tracks with Kurt and/or Jonny, they both brought something different to the table.
I was really happy to see Matt in this video. I hope he's gotten and is getting the help he needs.
LOLLLLLLLLL (not at Matt, but at the Jonny dig...)
Yeeees, I'd love to see him react to Uneasy Hearts.
Unpopular Opinion. Jonny Craig's voice NEVER matched Dance Gavin Dance's sound whatsoever. His voice was always meant to match Slaves or even solo, but he obviously fucked one of those things up. Lol
@@TheClassicalRoots I get what youre saying. My thought is the song writing was far less polished back then, similar concepts but they hadnt locked it in yet. So Jonnys vocals clashed with the chaos. DGD is still chaos, but now they do SUCH a good job making it organized chaos and keeping things grounded/the groove moving. If anything I think Jonny vocals would fit a bit better now, but its a catch-22 because I dont think they would have evolved this much if he hadnt left.
loved Jon Mess' style because he can use his screams creatively for contrast of voice/tone, humor, thematic urgency, or just reliable gutteral chaos. His pairing with Tilian is a top shelf match, both are fantastic with their intent and delivery of vocals.
Well said! I agree 100%
His fast flows are crazyyy
If you read Jons lyrics, I think you would re-think the angst angle; they mostly resemble sentences made from word magnets on a fridge at 3am 😅 some of my all-time favourite lyrics come from his verses, or Will's from when he did the screaming, way-back-when.
The most accurate summation of jons lyrics i have ever heard
"Riding a rhino, Pico degio!" Is my favorite song line ever
Lmao him screaming about being a cat, or sounding like a 5 year old half the time
100%. His lyrics aren't designed to make sense, they're all about cadence. Jon Mess is a human rhythm instrument because he's keeping the beat with words.
It never really clicked with me in concept until Summertime Gladness.
@@miikro "You know my origin story, born in the cemetery" fucking bangs though
The guy behind the counter you asked about at about 4:08 is Andrew Wells, of the band Eidola. Previously they were a touring guitarist for DGD and have been involved in the creative process and featured in the last few albums now; Andrew recently joined the band as a full member. Very talented guy, and Eidola is awesome.
is he also back up on the "im living life, im living life as if im already dead"? cause it kinda sounded like him
@@Mr66sharingan that's likely Rob since he's featured in the song. He has that solo verse but in later parts of the song it sounds more like him with the lower back up vocals
Definitely Rob
@@Mr66sharingan probably if they play it live, andrew can sing that part instead
On this note, he should react to Eidola now!
pleeeeeease do a reaction to “here comes the winner” by them!! one of my favorites from dgd, tilian’s vocals are insane on that track
Dear Heavens, Yes!
He would love this one. Absolutely one of their best songs.
Agreed plz
YESSIRSKI Here Comes the Winner is still probably my favorite DGD song to this day
Such a good song
time to fall down the Don Broco rabbit hole as well, I had never heard of them until this song. instantly fell in love with them
Hey Dave,
if you haven't already heard the tragic news, DGD's bassist Tim Feerick just passed away. it's a shock and devastating loss to our community and personally as a friend it's heartbreaking.
maybe this is a long shot, but if you could do something in his memory, whether it's a song review of the first album he was on, or even a more in depth/music theory breakdown of one of his DGD Bass Covers from his own RUclips channel, as he was a very talented bassist with very cool ideas that he deserves to be commended for, that would be REALLY cool to see. much appreciation.
Incredibly sad
Just can’t believe it. Rip Tim, fly high.
@@jonahwhitney5455 I'm still in unable to process it. I was ready to wake up this morning and find out it was a bad dream. gone WAY too soon... I'll miss his RUclips videos and everything he gave us.
@@alexv0714 same here, it just doesn’t seem right.
Mr. Swan drops those weedly weedlys so nonchalantly it's almost unbelievable. as a guy with an over expressed weedly weedly gene I feel like this band was made for me
Dude behind the counter was Andrew! Lead singer of Eidola and now official member of DGD. He’s played for dgd on tour for years but now officially a member.
His other project, Eidola, is on will swans label and is REALLY good.
wait is he finally a formal member? I always heard he would never be a formal member because Eidola was priority. that would explain why he's in the music video since he's not really in the others, I don't think
It’s really neat to me that so many fans came to this channel to talk about and remember Tim. Who would’ve thought the music shed would be such an extension of the dgd community.
RIP Tim! I'm glad I've gotten all the opportunities I've had to meet you with DGD ❤
Tim Feerick, the bass player, passed away the 13th. What a loss. Rest in peace king.
Rest in peace Tim Feerick, you'll always hold a special place in me ♥
If you haven’t, do listen to Nothing Shameful by DGD, Andrew Wells ( their new guitarist ) features as a major singer and it’s as creative as their best work. I love love love it! Thank you for shining a spotlight on my favourite band!
Also worth noting, being promoted to a full time member, he's going to have vocals on about half of the songs on this new album
If you haven’t ever watched this man’s videos, he is a full fledged DGD fan. He’s done several already.
Poor Andrew Wells, he will be called the "new guitarist" for years to come 😂 he's been with them for at least 5 years, we can stop calling him new 😆 I've been going to their shows since 2016
@@brandonn4332 he wasn’t an official member until now, I think is the point. He’s played and colabed with them and done touring with them, but he wasn’t officially in the band until recently. He even said so himself, because he wanted to make sure he had time and focus for Eidola.
@@brandonn4332 Yeah no he's been a supporting member of the band for years now but hasn't joined the band officially until this upcoming album. Hence why Evaporate and Nothing Shameful said "ft Andrew wells", these upcoming songs won't even though he'll have vocal parts. he's a member now
RIP to the Dance Gavin Dance Bassist, Tim Feerick.
The guy behind the counter is Andrew Wells, long time touring member and newest official member as of this album.
He sings for a band Eidola. They have song with Jon Mess called “Mutual Fear” that you should check out!
It's not genre bending. They made their own. They csll it "Swancore". Will swan, the lead guitarist, has his own record label. He is in a few bands (royal coda with ex singer Kurt Travis, secret band with Jon mess etc...) and he has signed a bunch of similar artists. They have their own festival too call swanfest.
Interesting that in the beginning of this he talks about how heartbroken he is with Taylor Hawkins death… and now Tim from Dance Gavin Dance has passed away. Very sad year for the music industry.
Here after Tim passing. Having Taylor's passing be the intro is so heartbreaking. Can my favorite musicians stop dying for a little bit please?
You should definitely check out Humble Ledger by Eidola and Everybody by Don Broco.
Eidola is Andrew Wells' (the buff dude behind the counter) band. Wells has an incredible voice and more of a straightforward "rock" tone.
Don Broco is Rob's band. They're kind of bouncy and weird like DGD, but the vocals aren't as aggressive and the riffs aren't as noodley and intricate. I'm actually not sure what to classify them as aside from just "rock", but they're a very unique band.
Was going to say- time to open up the Don Broco book and have him react to everybody. Wish there was a good live video tho, it’s just not the same if you can’t see the high kicks haha
When I saw DGD live last fall, I loved how chill Will was. I don’t think he moved the entire show, just stood and cranked out incredible songs.
Some players are just like that. It’s who they are.
"It shouldn't even be called 'genre-bending', it should just be called 'music'." Love that comment.
Rest in peace Tim, we won't forget you legend.
“Cause I’m like that, priceless finest ice white platypus”
Jon’s lyrics are often random and perfect!
Tilian: “I’m TOPPED UP, OFTEN!”
Not with these gas prices! 😢😂
I can’t help but to dance to every single DGD song. They just know how to make you move. ❤
"How fun is that?" near the end killed me for whatever reason.
The song at the beginning is Around The World by RHCP
DGD's bass player passed away today. makes me sad. he was so talented and young. RIP
Wow, what?!
@@MusicShed yeah they announced it a few days ago. not sure what happened yet.
Now you need to react to some Don Broco! All their stuff is great
More DGD!! Just found your channel and I love it! If you want more suggestions by them they have awesome songs that build into beautiful conclusions, some great examples are here comes the winner, man of the year, bloodsucker, and NASA
If you get the chance, check out Carl Barker by DGD. That song was sung by Kurt Travis and Will Swan was the screamer. It’s fantastic.
Also recommend checking out something from the Jonny DGD era. Lemon Meringue Tie would be a good one.
Just because you move hips, doesn't mean that you exist.
Maybe one of my favorite DGD songs ever.
One of my favorites
David, since you love Tilian’s voice - yes, his voice is absolutely amazing - you really should watch a Sleeping with Sirens video. I suggest an oldie but goodie.. If You Can’t Hang by Sleeping With Sirens.
Kellin Quinn’s range is insane.
Bout damn time Dave! You need to do more of their stuff. The guy behind the counter is Andrew Wells who is the rhythm guitarist. He's been featured on a few tracks but now he's a full time member. He's the lead singer for Eidola too which is a fucking amazing band. I'd recommend you checking out "Mutual Fear" feat Jon Mess. BANGER
We spoke, he listened! Thank you David! RIP Hawkins
DGD has an extensive discography full of interesting sounds. I would highly recommend doing a runthrough of every album to see how they've progressed over the years. DGD's sound is so recognizable because they've been perfecting it for just shy of 2 decades and it's interesting to hear them not quite sound like them. Loved the video!
I love old dance Gavin dance. Even dbm still slaps
Matt had to go to rehab halfway through their last tour, but he's better now and back with them.
Also the built guy behind the counter when you asked "who is that behind the counter" is Andrew Wells, lead singer of Eidola. He's been an unofficial member of DGD for a while and really put the band on his back during the last tour when both Tilian and Jon were sick at different times. He recently signed a contract and is now officially a member of the band. guitar and backup vocals.
you should react to "Young Robot" from DGD as well, really danceable just like you mentioned
intro tune is the verse guitar riff from Around The World by Red Hot Chili Peppers
You absolutely have to check out Sleep Token/Loathe "Is it really you". It's one of the most beautiful, haunting songs you will ever hear.
I second this. It’s beautiful from start to finish.
You should check out Counterfeit Shrines by Eidola! The second guitarist of DGD Andrew Wells is the lead singer of that band!
More DGD reactions! Please! I love how you enjoy their songs !
Tim feerick, DGDs bassit just passed away yesterday
We asked for it, and you delivered, thank you!!!
This is the band that completely blew my world open when it comes to music. You mention you always feel the need to dance, this is my "stim" music. I always feel better when I listen to them, it is a complete release of any pent up energy. 10/10 my favorite band!
You’ve got to dig into Don Broco now! Three suggestions:
Technology
The blues
One true prince
Idk if you knew this about Tilian, but he's supposedly been a long-time cigarette smoker, which plays into his soft/angelic tone in his speaking and singing voice. Lol, I'm not advocating for cigarette smoking, of course, but that's apparently where his 'natural' vocal tone comes from
Please react to Don Broco! They also have two singers, Rob being the main one
I just discovered this band days ago. They kick fucking ass !!!!! Those guitar parts sound so fucking dope.
4:20 omg, I laughed so hard I think it echoed throughout the city.
I was just wondering if you had reacted to this song yet, I searched and lo and behold it’s only an hour old! Can’t wait for the new album, keep up the reactions to these guys!!!
Excitement doesn’t even begin to describe how much I am looking forward to Swanfest. I’m glad DGD gets your blood pumping too :)
The other person singing was not Jon Mess, His name is Rob Damiani and is the vocalist of Don Broco. Don Broco are great and put out a really good album last year
You would love Thank you scientist!
the shirt!!!!!!! our household is so delighted right now!!
THE shirt!!!!
Please react to Eidola. The singer is the guitar player behind the counter in this video. He’s now full time part of DGD as well as playing with Eidola
RIP TIM♥️
Hey Dave, love the vid. I love the observation about how their music is so danceable - that's actually a theme that came up much later in the band, after Tilian's addition. Their earlier work was very... not danceable. But still very good.
I love where the band is at now, but some day, ideally before this album drops because it'll just be banger after banger, you should check out their older stuff with previous lead signers Jonny Craig (Royal Ocean, Downtown Battle Mountain, DBM2) and Kurt Travis (Self Titled, Happiness). Lemon Meringue Tie or And I Told Them I Invented Times New Roman, and Carl Barker or Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most are probably the biggest songs from each singer respectively.
Check out Testalti by Eidola. As a music theorist, you will enjoy it and would like your take on it is andrew wells band
yes finally more dgd. Keep going they have so many songs you have yet to cover!
If you notice, there’s a poster from the “headhunter” video. Should listen to it as well
Been waiting for this reaction!!! Thank you! Can’t wait for the new album this spring. More singles for you to review in the future 😉
Love these videos, you always appreciate the things I appreciate about this music.
Keep killing it and posting videos!
Yes!
Oh man, I missed this guys in your channel, and I have to agree with you. One of the best things about DGD is that their music is so rhythmic and overall enjoyable, and even catchy (if I may say so). Wasn’t the biggest fan when I found out about them, but they’ve steadily won my heart. I wish I could see them live some day.
And for recs, I’ll never stop saying you should check out Leprous, I really think you’ll enjoy them. I’d suggest Nighttime Disguise or Slave (live at Rockefeller Center). I really think you won’t be disappointed.
The low voice during the double melody is Andrew Wells. DGD new member. (Not to be confused with Rob who is featured on the track)
This was a great video to stumble upon. RIP Tim Feerick. We'll never forget that funky af bass.
How’d he die?
I can’t hardly wait for this new album. Tilians vocal Melodies on this song are killer.
i'm so happy you did this song
Been waiting for your reaction to this!
love the channel, love the band, i love hearing your thoughts on the type of music i'm into
yeah just saw them in Sacramento a couple days ago they opened with this song, but off the bat you could tell something was missing. That was a hard one the band really broken up with the loss of Tim RIP..
You should do another DGD reaction. Their bass player passed away the other day. 😞
You should really check out Rob Damiani’s band Don Broco. They are fantastic and also super fun to listen to!
They took the Strawberry's Wake style funky hook and ran with it on this one. Incredible song.
Also tho, so freaking elated to see you react to the new songs!!!
Hell yeah! Great song!
Man I found this after Tim just passed... weird to realize Taylor was still this soon too... I guess this was the last video with Tim. RIP
Was waiting for this!!
Rob Damiani is one of the vocalists for Don Broco, also an awesome band
You would love Here Comes the Winner, Tillian's range is unbelievable in that one. By far one of their best songs
I watched this on the same day I found out about their bassist passing, and you mentioned foo fighters member passing. Such a crazy coincidence. RIP Tim!
How’d he die?
@@MusicShed as far as I saw it's still under investigation.
The guy behind the counter is Andrew! Dudes amazing, he's got his own band called Eidola, you could certainly have a lot of content ahead of you doing reactions to them!
You can create your own acronym, DDD (Dense, David, Dense) :D Also recommend that you check out the latest album from Eidola, The Architect. That was album of the year 2021 for me by far! Start with Mutual Fear and then Caustic Prayer, Empty Gardens and Counterfeit Shrines :)
The first thing I thought when this song came out was “I hope David does a reaction vid”
New to this channel and newly subscribed. Love this channel. Might now be my favorite music reacts channel. Thank you. And the fact that you react to dgd and love them so much makes me even happier to be here
Ty SS!
R.I.P. Tim 🙏🏼😫
They just released a second single which is the continuation to this video called pop off! You should react to that as well!
One of the best things about Jon's lyrics being messy, is it makes listen number #2-10,000 wayyy more interesting.
Lol when he saw Tilian smoke. Tilian used to smoked heavily back in the days, he hasn't smoked at all recently until this video I believe.
The piano tune you played at the beginning was red hot chili peppers "Around the world"
Yes!
@10:04 thats how their shows are....
instead of moshing people are dancing, grooving, moving their feet, jammin to the beat.
Always cool to check your reactions/reviews to the DGD sound!
And I still can't believe it but their bassist, Tim Feerick, passed away some days ago. RIP.
They also featured another guitarist on this song called Louie Baltazar (Left Speaker guitar) from the band Wolf & Bear, which is DGD's Bassist Tim Feerick other full-time project that he's apart of. If you ever have a chance check out Greyblood or Street Rat by W&B, Very talented band.
You should really check out secret band - projectile comet (lyric video). It consists of Jon mess as the solo vocalist, will swan and Matt Mingus! Basically DGD with a heavier vibe
I can back "here comes the winner"
And again, please do an erra track! They're equally as incredible and almost as complex of a history as DGD, paralleling them in the sense that they have the beautiful pipes and the messy ones! Can't recommend enough. If you don't react, at least check out their latest stuff!
Jon mess is a national treasure !!!
Would be AWESOME to see you do a cover of this song on the keys
