Great video Dave! As a retired engineer, it's refreshing to see your approach and execution to such a project. Well done, and very inspiring! Your background music goes perfectly with the whole presentation. Thanks!
Good job on the safety tips. As someone who has fallen through a roof, 12 feet to a concrete floor (not recommended), you were spot on. I am glad I did that when I was 18. Us old guys don't bounce nearly as well!
I did something very similar this past summer that I am proud of. Great firewood storage as well as stuff I don’t want in the garage (splitter, oil pans, etc). Great video. Stay warm!!!
Being out of the "do it yourself" life for the foreseeable future I pretty much live vicariously through your videos until I can get back in it. Always enjoy it when you drop a new one. The only problem with this one was.... it was too short! Just kidding. I know it's not easy to make these things but I wanted you to know how appreciated it is when you do. Thanks again for taking us along for the ride.
I'm getting prepped to build my own greenhouse this Spring, so I am watching every video I can find that deals with shed construction. I like that you take your time and explain things clearly while also showing us what you mean. There are WAY too many time lapse building videos on here. I don't get anything except frustration from them.
Dave. Thanks again for inspiration. I want to go out in the cold and build something now. Also learned something in this video! I’m in the 12x10 cabin ya taught me to build in 2020. 18 degrees outside nice and warm inside. Thank you again for the inspiration and memories.
I enjoy your videos. Tip... I was in construction since early 80s and posts went to pressure treated but they were lasting too long. So construction crews started selling the concrete pitch. Now the posts last about 10 years in concrete. I've still got posts after 25 yrs.
I love watching the videos to learn something, (and be entertained but mostly to learn) though I will never personally build something like Dave has. I will however, be available for advice to others...😊
I really enjoy when I see a video of yours, or Brookes, or your brothers, or your son's. Some projects are simple and some are complicated and others are in the middle. Thanks so much for making a day for an old gal .
I was telling my wife how much I enjoy watching you, how your presentation is so much better than many out there. She said, "Have you told him? He might appreciate it given all the negative comments he receives." So I'm doing just that. Love ya, brother!
Would you make a video on wood stoves? Burning, temperature control, but mostly installing and everything about the care and maintenance - specifically, how to change the rope wrap surrounding the stove opening , as well as the ribbon cording that goes around a wood-stove glass window and how often to replace them. What to do if the stove glass breaks while hot and stove is a blaze, where to purchase new glass & it’s install. Maybe about safe distance from walls, wall liners, wood-stove install in an existing brick fire place and chimney liners as well as safety preps for flooring to set a woodstove on. Great if you can provide above information and “how to” for cabins or existing house. Love this lean-to video, I sent to my brothers.
Great job Dave. I've one to build on a 60' barndo this spring. It's always nice to learn from another's mistakes. I'll keep my cordless drill on my tool belt 😂
I loved this video. Actually, I have really loved every video you have put out good sir. Stay safe and I can not wait to see what other little side project you have coming.
Always take the time to work safely on a ladder or while working aloft. I once rushed to finish a job because it was so freaking hot , 104 degrees in August. Needless to say I’d ended up falling 18 feet. Broke my left wrist in 3 places, broke 2 ribs, and completely tore my left rotator cuff and left bicep. Took me over a year to recover and heal up. Lucky I was wearing a hard hat at the time, otherwise I think I would have stove my head in. Don’t compromise on safety.

Dave, I would watch you build anything for alot of reasons. You are great at telling a storey with so much humour, fun and your facial expessions are priceless. Love the can o beans. 😁 I like how you left the drill on the roof. No mistakes. 😂 How did you tie the car tow rope up there in the first place? 😅 If I ever need to build a leanto, now I know I should hang up a tow rope first. Then once the roof sheets are on, the rope is already in place. But truth be told, I have never built anything. Maybe one day, with your brilliant instructions at least I can watch your videos and can build anything. Seriously, I love watching your videos. They are relaxing, fun, educational, practical, easy to follow, you are a great person, great humour no matter what the circumstances are like a snow storm, plus you play some cool music too. 👍 Great job, look forward to whatever you are building or doing next! Happy New Year to you and the family!. Just wanted to let you know the book your aunt wrote, Albanian Escape, was a really interesting story. It would actually make a great movie. Please everyone either learn construction or hire someone who does. Best of luck,
Good one, Dave! Last summer a friend and I built a 25’x12’ lean to on my barn and it turned out great. I’ve also built a 12x12 woodshed and a garden shed by myself and boy do those clamps come in handy to hold boards in place when you’re working alone. I actually prefer to do things by myself so I can take my time (I’m 68) and figure things out, because I have no professional carpentry experience. I make a lot of mistakes pros might laugh at, but I also find it rewarding when I finally get things to work out. I’m the only one who sees and uses the things I build. They work fine for me, and that’s good enough. Thanks for your videos, I always enjoy them and learn a lot. ✌️🍎👍
I'm a beginner woodworker after retiring a few short years ago. I've watched many, many DIY videos on how to put up a lean-to, so when I am ready to put one on the side of my barn, on my own, I'll be more prepared. This video is, hands down, the BEST one . The relaxed, easy going narration is so nice to listen to. After watching this video just once, I feel more confident that I will be able to successfully put up my own lean to. Thank you for your expertise and really nicely done video. Looking forward to watching more of them!
Great video! We put large gravel rocks in the holes before the wooden 4x4's so the wood can drain off any water it absorbs. Ours is 35 yrs old now and no rotten 4x4's. Thanks to Bob Villa's recommendation. years ago.
Losing my mind right now with so many things I would have done differently. Now so conflicted with how much I love this video and how folks work with what they have in front of them. Awesome video ❤❤
Hey Dave, great video! I always learn a great deal from you…like the string-line tip! I swear one day I’m going to send you a darn air framing nailer and compressor!😊
Great job. (Almost) perfect timing. Nice & practical (e.g. can add the joist hangers later - without getting snow in your face. It’s always well worth watching your channel for refreshing skills & inspiration for everyday projects that make farm life a bit easier.
Looks familiar. I'm here in Vt. adding a 6'x16' glassed-in porch to my old farmhouse. At 69 I'm getting ready to sell this 40-year project this summer. Time to hang up the tool belt before I hurt myself.

The relaxed, easy going narration is so nice to listen to. After watching this video just once, I feel more confident that I will be able to successfully put up my own lean to. Thank you for your expertise and really nicely done video. Looking forward to watching more of them!
Thanks
Great video! We put large gravel rocks in the holes before the wooden 4x4's so the wood can drain off any water it absorbs. Ours is 35 yrs old now and no rotten 4x4's. Thanks to Bob Villa's recommendation. years ago.
Another masterpiece in video and construction. Greetings from Sunny SW Florida 😎
I just love your channel and the music you create makes it unique. Thank you.
As usual, instructive and fun to watch. Always enjoy your videos with a grin on my face. Thanks Dave.
Glad you enjoyed it
