I keep coming back to your channel - I literally "need" a three pickup bass for my studio setup and while I have a couple of amazing cats that do great work for me, I'd love to begin learning this myself. I need to get the kit, an electric drill and get to it - the fact that your bass went from a kit to the boss it is is a testament to what you do. Thank you for showing us how it's done.
Idk why but i kinda miss the goofy moments in your videos. It made it yours if you know what I mean. The jokes were bad but in the perfect way. If you like doing videos this way then I'm not gonna discourage you cause it is great and informative. But just remember that you can do whatever you want with your content, and true fans will begin to appreciate it.
+Miles Smith dude thanks so much for this comment. Truth be told I feel like my videos lately have been boring as snot. Thanks for reminding me to take the time to make it fun. I appreciate it.
Ive had a JB for 20 years that I kept trying to upgrade with active preamp. The Battery kept draining so I kept ripping it back out again. I cant believe I finally have the solution. Thank You Dan!
Really like your videos, you inspired ne to build my own custom diy strat Could you do a video on how to make modifications to and setup the tremolo and other mechanics on the diy strat?
This is a video with great information. So much so I'm interested in adding a preamp but I wish you would make one where you have had less coffee, bro. This was fast for a person like me that doesn't know all the details. Love your channel. Keep'em coming. Thanks for all you do. God bless you and your family.
LoL. Needed to do some routing in my DIY guitar kit. I had a milling bit from one o' those Polymer80 Spectre kits, and used that in my drill press, with the table height adjuster to push the body into the bit, and moving the wood around by hand to put the bit where I needed the wood gone. Scary as hell (more for the guitar, and not myself), but it did the job. (And surprisingly well, might I add.)
+Nicholas Feeley dude I know exactly what you’re talking about! I’ve milled one of those polymer 80 lowers before. But routing a guitar that way seems a little jenky haha
Heh. A little, yeah. I had a nice, flat board to move it around on, though, so it wasn't *too* bad. It's the same motion as what you're doing, but instead of moving the tool I'm moving the workpiece.
My preferred setup is a passive tone control with an active bass control. This means i can cut the treble and boost the bass. I never really need to boost the treble.
I just have a B7K and I'm happy with that, gives me perfect tone and i don't think running preamp (bass) into preamp (pedal) into preamp (amp's internal) makes all that much sense
Randy Meyer I mean he built it for parts worth just about $150 (not including preamp) so you definitely could have a bass that sounds like it if you’re willing to make one.
gerard dela cruz well it’s the same thing really, you just have to buy a wider neck and bridge, 2 extra tuning machines, and pickups that were built to accomedate six strings. Depending on the body you use you might have to do some extra drillwork to get all the larger pieces to fit, but in practice it’s the same process as building a regular 4-string. But if you’re interested there’s a video series up on youtube Where a guy builds a 6-string bass from scratch. Don’t remember what the channel was called though.
Another possible site for you to try one time, which if the kits are good quality, your custom business will shoot through the roof. Pitpull guitars in Austraila have opened a range of custom kits. While you can't change body shapes and stuff, you CAN change things like string number, scale lenght, hardware set ups, ect.
+Furiora yeah I dig pit bull guitars kits. They aren’t stellar quality (none really are, except warmoth, but they don’t sell whole kits, and they are expensive as snot). I do want to order from their custom kits, it’d be cool to see some really unique pickup routing and stuff. Thanks for the tip!
What do I need to do with the shielding around the wire? Do I connect it to the back of the pot like the ground? Or leave them unconnected when i strip the wire?
Hi dan! I️ ordered one of these kits and was wondering if you could go in a bit more numerical detail on where to drill for the bridge, I️ don’t wanna mess up! Loving the vids!
I keep thinking, if you're going to do so much routing, why not install a 9v battery box cavity also? Or enlarge the other cavity to fit said battery box?
Hey dan. I hope you will see this. I have a pj bass with a single volume and 3 way toggle. I wired the SD tone circuit and triple checked all the connections and their respective locations. When I played, there was normal volume, but the preamp did nothing no matter were the knobs were turned. When the switch was set to passive, the entire signal was killed. I've tried every trick I know and still cant get any luck. Any advice?
Hey Dan, My wife bought me a double neck strat kit from amazon. I wished I could find a case for it. Could you please do a video on how to make a custom case for a double necked guitar? Please include a list of all parts I would need. Thank you.
there's a DIY video tech nerd guy that makes all sorts of parts using a 3d printer his public library has. I mean compartments and panels to hold components btw
I have the MM Jazz Bass but recently put a Tone Monster SEB3 Preamp in it. Sounds great. Replaced the Fender Preamp with a Bartolini TCT Preamp but couldn't get the Marcus Sound out of it. Lol There is big debate online regarding the TCT Marcus uses being no longer made and the Bartolini TCT sold today is a new version. I've called them and claim it's basically the same preamp my ears say different. Lol Marcus's team has been buying all the old TCT's anywhere can find them since he has retired his OG Bass from touring and takes other Fenders on the road. There are several bass players on RUclips who have the new Bartolini TCT Preamp but add 223 Capacitor to the Tone Pot which sounds like the old TCT. Not sure how to add on my TCT since I have Vol 250k Pot, Vol 250k Pot, Treble 500k Pot, Bass 500k Pot and a 25k Mid Cut. I've asked for clarification but they have not received a response. Any Ideas? Sorry for the long post. Lol
Hello Dan.. been watching this video for quite a while and it never come across my mind to buy a dremel tool but now I got one and I have to do a battery cavity to my bass.. question.. what is the name of the bit you used to trim down the wood? It seemed big than the usual dremel bit
Hello And Thank first! I conected 9v ground to the jack ground and it's makes AND anoying noise .. like scratches...do u know where is the trouble ? Ty Soo much..
Dude, great videos! Where did you get that dremel leveller?(that thing that you regulate to do the cuts not so deeper) And how much it costs? (Sorry for my shitty english, I speak spanish) Greetings from Chile!
I put a link to buy it in the description, but I'm sure you can find it for sale in Chile somewhere. Here in the US you can buy it at any tool/hardware store, as well as walmart
Hey dan, great day! I've been your silent follower since last year. I'm curious about you building a low badget or improvised (but low badget) bass amplifier. Will it be possible to build one for, say less than, a $100?
Parts alone would probably cost more than that if you want a proper housing for it, but I mean it’s possible if you really tried. Though it’ll probably sound like ass. Would still be interesting to see just how cheap you can go for a build like this and still have it sound good.
Can you share your wiring diagrams? At my bass with Jbass+MM pickup config (passive), when both pickups opened, I have lost some gain than one of them is open.
That means your pickups are out of phase. Choose either the neck or bridge pickup and reverse the polarity (switch the hot and ground wires) that should help significantly
+TwiztedMister thanks for reminding me. I hadn’t posted it yet because I wanted to take some professional pics of it. Still haven’t done that, but I went ahead and listed it with the same image as this videos thumbnail.
Guns and Guitars pace yourself man. Your videos are great; super informative and really enjoyable to watch. You’ve got a style that really works. Pace yourself and don’t get burned out. Keep up the good work!
That's a pretty clever idea, cutting the pickguard so you don't have to unscrew as many screws. Nice. Looks convenient
I've done so many mods to my bass thanks to this guy.

Guns and Guitars I agree with miles. Love your goofiness in your videos. Just the right amount of bad jokes
we like the jokes (its just the snapchat filters were a bit much)
Ive had a JB for 20 years that I kept trying to upgrade with active preamp. The Battery kept draining so I kept ripping it back out again. I cant believe I finally have the solution. Thank You Dan!
Really like your videos, you inspired ne to build my own custom diy strat
Could you do a video on how to make modifications to and setup the tremolo and other mechanics on the diy strat?
Sure! next time I build a strat style guitar I'll make a video on that specifically
This is a video with great information. So much so I'm interested in adding a preamp but I wish you would make one where you have had less coffee, bro. This was fast for a person like me that doesn't know all the details. Love your channel. Keep'em coming. Thanks for all you do. God bless you and your family.
Soon as I heard the name of the channel, I subscribed. You won my heart.
LoL.

I really like the pup config on that bass.
I'll wait passive/active switch tutorial video.
+Nopal N awesome! Thanks for waiting :)
Would love to have that bass. It sounds great!
Randy Meyer I mean he built it for parts worth just about $150 (not including preamp) so you definitely could have a bass that sounds like it if you’re willing to make one.
Awesome video! Keep it up! Cant wait for the next high end build
+mateo bozzini stay tuned!
Danke Knarren und Gitarren. German for: Thank you Guns and Guitars, saved me and my buddys day
Love the Marcus Miller Jazz, I have the same one. great bass, but a bit noisy. looks amazing too.
+Benny Bönes Plays that’s probably the only bass that I will keep till the day I die. I just flipping love it for some reason
Has the best nick I have every played
Hi Dan, can you make a video for a 6-string bass guitar as well?
gerard dela cruz well it’s the same thing really, you just have to buy a wider neck and bridge, 2 extra tuning machines, and pickups that were built to accomedate six strings. Does the active tone pot control the tone of the bass when in passive mode? If not how do you keep the passive tone in this setup?
I'm wondering the same thing!
I use my dermal for all kinds of stuff from making my wife jewelry to wood working and auto stuff.
Can you use a preamp designed for a guitar or do basses need their own type of preamp?
What do I need to do with the shielding around the wire? Do I connect it to the back of the pot like the ground? Or leave them unconnected when i strip the wire?
Hi dan! I️ ordered one of these kits and was wondering if you could go in a bit more numerical detail on where to drill for the bridge, I️ don’t wanna mess up! Loving the vids!
+DrewThomasSaxophone the bridge saddles should be exactly 34” from the nut piece, or half that from the 12th fret. Hope that helps!
Hi Dan , maybe you could give me some insight on installing an audere preamp into my Musicman Ernieball 5 string bass.
what if you have 3 pickups can you still install a generic preamp?
I keep thinking, if you're going to do so much routing, why not install a 9v battery box cavity also? Or enlarge the other cavity to fit said battery box?
Hey Dan, I just ran across your videos, me like 👍
Thanks!
Hey dan. I hope you will see this. I have a pj bass with a single volume and 3 way toggle. I wired the SD tone circuit and triple checked all the connections and their respective locations.

If you haven't gotten it to work yet, it's possible you got a defective preamp.
I have an 86 Ibanez roadstar II bass I want to convert into an active bass I wish someone can do the routing and I can put the electronics in it.
Hey Dan,
My wife bought me a double neck strat kit from amazon. I wished I could find a case for it. Could you please do a video on how to make a custom case for a double necked guitar? Please include a list of all parts I would need. Thank you.
+Tom Tobin thanks for the recommendation. If I build a double neck guitar I’ll include a bit about a case.
Thanks,Dan. I would really appreciate it.

Awesome! And now for the sound check tone! Where’s the link?
Watch my review of the duncan blackouts preamp for sound clips
Why didn't you just put the battery in the rear route you made, I'm sure you could have made room with some clever drilling
YOU HAVE A MARCUS MILLER SIGNATURE JAZZ BASS
Good eye. I love that bass

How did you wire the 3 pickups because the preamp is only for 2
Cheers
its one preamp after all pickups, no matter how many pickups the bass has
Is that (the other bass) a Fender Marcus Miller jazz bass?
Man that’s a sweet bass...!!!!Is it for sale?
Hello And Thank first! I conected 9v ground to the jack ground and it's makes AND anoying noise .. like scratches...do u know where is the trouble ? Ty Soo much..
Man that bass is so beautiful. But how fast is that neck? Is it easy to play?
It was a very fast playing neck. I loved that bass, I was sad to sell it
When do you plan on making the video where teach us how to do the toggle switch
Next week actually

@@Da_Swifta
I would like to see dan build a bass amp using a 17 inches worn out truck tires for a bass amp box.
What my question is, would the Remote Line Kit and the Multi- Purpose Cutting Kit work with the cheaper Harbor Freight "Dremel'?
+Adrian Scott it works with my black and decker, I assume they will work with the other cheaper brands
you dont have to change pickups?
Can you share your wiring diagrams? At my bass with Jbass+MM pickup config (passive), when both pickups opened, I have lost some gain than one of them is open.

So many links to the parts in the description but no link to your own website! I guess I will just type it in myself like a pleb.. haha
+Zachary Eckert it’s the first line of the description 😂😂😂
OMG what does it sound like?!?!?!
but you can keep the tone potentiometer
I flipping should have known you would have what I'm needing 😅
Umm... I don't see the bass on your site anywhere. It did I miss it?
+TwiztedMister thanks for reminding me. I hadn’t posted it yet because I wanted to take some professional pics of it. Still haven’t done that, but I went ahead and listed it with the same image as this videos thumbnail.
I am looking at a bass Schecter stilleto that at 159 bucks needs to be " wired"
I feel like that bass is gonna sell for a lot
Man I wish a had the money to buy that bass...
You can always make me an offer
Guns and Guitars Could you do 0$, cuz i am broke XD
haha, that might be a little too low lol
Guns and Guitars But thank you for the offer!
Preamp and mini toggle switch used in the video?
I'll put links in the description for you!
okay it's updated now
That’s a fairly bold opening statement. You can’t polish a turd.
Hey. How much is that bass?
check it out on my website www.gunsandguitars.com
Aw, no sound demo? :P
I already did a sound demo in the review video for the preamp, so watch that video if you want hear it!
Man you look tired or sad, hope you’re doing well man
+RonaldRaygun haha thanks for the concern man. Just a little stressed because I want to upload more videos than I have time to make
Guns and Guitars pace yourself man. Your videos are great; super informative and really enjoyable to watch. You’ve got a style that really works. Pace yourself and don’t get burned out. Keep up the good work!
soundcheck?
watch my review of the seymour duncan preamp review to hear it in action with this bass
Well, since im the only comment here so far, how ya doing Dan?
+Covered Gamer haha great thanks!
just 3d-print it!
Jesus that kit sold for 550?
Can you put in a guitar?
what??
Lute-e er. The h is silent.
Don't waste your money on the Harbor Freight rotary tool. It does not have enough power, it is a very light duty tool.
thanks for the tip! I personally like my black and decker rotary tool better than my dremel brand, it was cheaper, variable speed, and more powerful.
I'll take this thing off your hands for $450 CAD.
+MaxTheKanuck thanks for the offer. Message me on Facebook if you’re really interested
Luthier is pronounced LUTE-e-er. The H is silent. Look it up!
"Costs two to three times less" makes no sense.
That’s a fairly bold opening statement. You can’t polish a turd.
