I was always a fan of Txsu way before Brian ever entered the picture. They always had talent as far as I'm concerned Brian just enhanced it. Great job band.

My allergies got to me because our football team loss horribly, but our band offset that tragedy with the greatest performance in halftime band performance history. GO TIGERS & GO OCEAN OF SOUL!!!!!!!!!
Low-key! And when I watched the clip of him teaching a bunch of high schoolers during a summer camp, I was impressed. He just validates EVERYBODY seemingly! Granted, it was a small group. But being that TXSU right now is a relatively small group, this works out perfectly especially as a new director! He has an opportunity to personally sow into each and everyone of them. I was once in a huggge band, and just felt like a number. This is another level! These are gonna be his champions! They are gonna believe in his methods, talent, and scheme of things, these (which will be considered his old heads/upperclassmen) are gonna ride for him so hard! Hell, they gon be able to sell the program by themselves! And that new class of crabs next year? Oh yeah, they gon be deep, but them upperclassmen will whip them into shape, QUICK! They gon all wanna get past the basics as fast as possible just so they can get to the music!

What a difference a band director and master arranger makes! TXSU is quickly becoming a SWAC favorite! This coming from a fan of another school in the SWAC! I must give credit where it’s due! TXSU is getting better each week! In my opinion, TXSU band is already better than a few bands in the SWAC!

Absolutely .. SU has been doing this for years when they play non conference school with a majority white audience .. it's why they developed a big following outside the HBCU community .
I love "Don't Stop Believing!" As soon as I heard that, I just FELT the advancements made under new leadership. Then you followed that up with Bette Midler? Bette Midler??! AT BAYLOR??? You know they went home listening to her greatest hits album! I was wondering from here how this *usual* Motion and dance routine transition was gonna be received, but then you went to "Deep in the Heart of Texas" and marched off. I wanted more but I'm not mad at that. The man knows his audience! 💯 SIDENOTE: I love when the camera shows Simmons directing. There's so much love and passion he puts into every movement and expression he makes! Music runs through his soul! I can't wait for him to have the band membership just the way he wants it, and the sound from TXSU he dreams about! You gotta know a man like this DREAMS of a specific sound. THEN Him feeding into the students, the students feeding into him? Poetry! And the kicker is, over at Southern, as good as he was, he used his genius to CONTRIBUTE to their greatness, as there were others in control. HERE, HE is in complete control. The potential is ENDLESS!!!
Brien Simmons is a absolutely musical genius! I’m not a TXSU fan necessarily but I believe in just a couple of years, TXSU band is going to be top 3 in the SWAC! SU and JSU will always be apart of the top band conversation. TXSU will be there soon I think! If they can keep Brien Simmons and invest money into the program, look out!! Dude is just a musical genius!
@@jasonsan9517 I agree. My fear is just how turbulent TXSU has been. We have a history of having a good thing or being on the right path, and messing that up somehow. Look up one day, and scandal, or Board Or Regents trying to remove someone, etc. The alumni base has been scattered due to the inconsistencies, so the band could help restore the base (I wish the football program could follow suit too). But once we all start organizing around the band, we cannot afford this bag to be fumbled again. That might be the absolute last straw for fans and alumni. If y'all thought school pride and fan base was lacking, you ain't seen nothing if TXSU gets this wrong again! I hope everyone in place throughout the university can keep their nose clean and be the change we need to see! Things can either go all the way RIGHT, or totally wrong. So although I'm happy, I'm just cautious. 😬😬

Ive heard renditions of some of my favorite songs from the 80s this week one was an epic fail (Miles- In My House by the Mary Jane Girls) and an excellent execution of Dont stop Believing by the Ocen. Would also like to hear this from the stands!

I am so proud of The Ocean of Soul under the awesome leadership of Brian Simmons and his incredible staff. The performance at Baylor was incredible and showed the diversity of the band in performing other genres of music. I am looking forward to all of the performances this football season! Let's not forget the next performance of Motion at the Rice game for they are outstanding as well. I predict Ocean and Motion will at the top of the SWAC soon.
Love the adjustments you all made to the field show to cater to the crowd. The 9/11 tribute was well executed and I'm still in awe with the "Don't Stop Believing" arrangement! Awesome job Ocean!

WEEEEK SIXXXXX. Issa Super Bowl! Not a person at Southern is finna sleep on TXSU. And the OCEAN SQUAD is finna unleash AWL they tricks and whistles for that week! It's gonna be one of TXSU'S best opportunities that would TREMENDOUSLY attract new band students next year if they win, or even come close! The best recruitment tool! Southern could literally do what they've been doing these two weeks, and it wouldn't detract people to still wanna play for Southern. I just question are they/would they write new music, or enough new music for a Crankfest, Zero Quarter, Stands, Halftime, AND 5th? Really, TXSU don't have to win every one. A Crankfest and 5th to me are most important. I personally wouldn't put any of my latest best work in the Zero or elsewhere.

I have the highest reverence for Brian Simmons. He brings a new dynamic. But anyone that doesn't recognize that TXSU had the best band since 2017 are casual or "groupthink" fans or observers.
