Paul, manufacturers don't want people to "fix" their washers they want people to buy new machines. It is very unfortunate and very "uneconomical" for the consumer and also very bad for the environment, but they don't care. They are more interested in saying "the drum is 100% recycled plastic" because that is a metric they are measured on. They don't care that after 5 years 80% of their washers ended up in land fill. There should be some sort of certification about repairability but I'll believe that when I see all brands no longer having sealed drums. Yeah, pigs may fly too!
You must remember I'm only a one-man band, and I do my best to make the public aware of the tricks manufacturers use. I am 100% in agreement with you. Unless the general public knows what these companies are doing, they will be kept in the dark. The latest trick is claiming their washing machines are environmentally friendly because they wash at low temperatures. However, over time, this causes a buildup of sludge inside the drums. In my opinion, they are now using a much lower standard of aluminium on the spiders, which leads to drum collapses. Since manufacturers have started welding drums together, these can no longer be replaced. Manufacturers seem to be trying to make machines last no longer than 5 to 7 years. In Britain alone, we consume over 3.5 million washing machines per year. When it comes to electrical components like relays on the circuit board, these are tested to the bare minimum standards. It's now common to find that a relay controlling the heater fails after five to six years. The quality of the contacts is so poor that arcing burns out the relay. This ensures the circuit board becomes unusable after many cycles of the heater clicking on and off. The machine had a lot of leaks and was just uneconomic for me to warrant repairing it as it would cost me more time than the machine was worth and the PCB and the motor will help someone no end if they have a machine that has a problem.
I am shocked the board hasn’t blew yet! Wow I’ve not worked on one of these for a long time. Can’t be many about now if I remember righty It was always motor, pump and PCB problems.. these machines did not like new brushes and would chew up the armature.
