I love love LOVE that you include the common pigeon, aka Rock Dove, aka Columbo livia. Just because they are common doesn't mean they aren't beautiful.
My father had a couple of pigeon lofts. One with racing pigeon's (didn't race them) and he had every colour and rare colours as well (yellow for example called yellow but nearer to tan) and the variations through breeding. All the birds "hooked up" as nature intended, not forced to mate as some breeders do. The other loft had Indian fantails, western rollers, oriental frills, tumblers tiplers, helmet's, Nunn's and some others that I can not remember. He also had a weird sense of humour, and would also bath some of the white pigeons with water containing food colouring. We had bright pink, green, yellow and red pigeons. When they were out in the flock it was a spectacular sight.

When my sister and I were young back in the 60's, we used to go to the local livestock and dead stock market with our parents (farm equipment, cycles, lawn mowers etc). There used to be a small animal barn with all sorts of wonderful rabbits, chickens and pigeons for sale. My sister and I loved going to gaze at the beautiful and adorable little creatures. Sadly, that and most if not all such markets here closed down long ago.
The Pink Pigeon came back from almost extinction as a result of a dedicated biologist. 20 yr history of monitoring/ increasing population and saving the birds.
Wow I had no idea the amazing differences in all these pigions.....to be honest ... I had no clue that they had crests on their heads.....many of them are amazing so very very beautiful.....just wow. Thanks for sharing this.
One does not rank beauty, and there are many more species of pigeons that are stunning: the colourful fruit doves for example. All birds are beautiful.
