My wife and I were at a B&B in New Braunfels, and they played this among others. I went thru several CDs before I found the song. I have enjoyed it ever since!
I discovered this when I lived in Texas too. Made me proud to live in Texas. Dont live there anymore but I still love Texas and feel at home every time I go back!
I’ve seen Lyle and his Large Band several times and I was there when he recorded this live for a Disney special at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio. He puts on one of the best live shows in the business.
I have seen him several times going back to the 90's (First show I saw he called out his then wife, Julia Roberts, who was in the audience. Yeah that far back) He has by far the tightest live show I have ever seen.
First Lyle song I heard was She's no Lady, I was hooked. I live in Austin Oct to March and have for last 3 decades writing west Texas country. I'm still not from Texas Lyle was so fkn good in Napa a few weeks back Uptown Theatre is so fun to sing in.
Lyle is so great to see live with his large band - just saw him a couple of weeks ago at Ravinia. His clever and wry humor along with his genuine admiration for all of the band's musicians really makes the show.
This is the music I grew up on in Oklahoma and my hometown Tulsa. Bob Wills was from Texas but he hit it big in Oklahoma. Of course. lol 😂. And this great western Jazz! That's right you're not from Oklahoma but it's Jazz. Love it my Texas brother!
..........Even Moses got excited when he copped an earful of Lyle Lovett and George Strait...and Moses exclaimed: "Hey, is this the Promised Land, then?".. and an angel replied to Moses: "No, dude, you're down in Texas, but Texas wants you anyways... !! :)
I've seen U2, John Prine, Willie Nelson, Don McLean, but my favourite concert was seeing Lyle Lovett in Portland, Maine in 2004; over 2 hours with no opening act.
I saw SRV live in a dive bar somewhere near whithouse, TX back in maybe 1993 or 94. That was an experience that I thought couldn't ever be topped, but I have to say seeing Lyle Lovett live is a massive contender and potentially upstages SRV. You don't listen to a Lyle Lovett concert, you feel it for a week afterwards! 😅
I Like Lyle Lovett and I listen to a lot of his music, but I don't think you can say he has a strong voice. What he does have is great voice control and he uses it so effectively in his music.
Along with an ability to write outstanding music. Lyricist al la John Prine or Bob Dylan. Who also do not have great voices, but are nonetheless outstanding in their field.
His singing is, speaking of vocal and intonation technique, much better than Bob Dylan or Kurt Cobain or Neil Young. He is not up there high where Shawn Colvin, Lalah Hethaway, Rumer or Gregory Porter are, but considerably better than just fine. Have you ever tried to listen closely to Willie Nelson?
I may have just put a thumbs down to this song, Not on purpose. I was looking to see who would have done a thing like that.Lyle Lovett is the best!!!!!'
With all the strife going on lately in 2020, I just try to remind other people that whether you were born here or came here, we all choose to be here and that is a sacred decision to be apart of something greater than our skin color, religion, original nation, creed, sexual orientation, etc. I fucking love all my fellow Texans!
Played this for my filipina gf when visited when she asked why I kept saying "yes sir/ma'am, no sir/ma'am" to her family and insisted on taking food or flowers to everyone's house we visited
@@UncleTonyGuitar Actually, he put out 2 DVD's from around that time. I think this is from the one called "Soundstage", which covered several artists; I have it plus one from that series by Chris Isaak.
I QUITE LITERALLY SLEEP UNDERNIETH THE LONE STAR ON THE SIDE OF THE END OF THE FRANKLIN MOUNTIANS IN EL PASO, TEXAS EVERY NIGHT, & SO DO THE DOGS. THAT'S RIGHT. YOU'RE -NOT- FROM TEXAS.
+Chris Mallires Thanks! I actually called their booking agent and found out from them after making this comment. Steve Jordan is THAT DUDE! Played with everybody from Chuck Berry to James Brown AND LYLE LOVETT (what a gig!)!! I knew I recognized him I just couldn't put my finger on it!
I said quite clearly that it sold out...i never said he was'nt cool...What i said was ''i thought this guy had a really strong voice''...he does'nt. Thats my ''opininon''!!
i thought this guy had a really strong voice....ive really enjoyed the video...but to be completely honest...he sounds as if he's talking the song....but the friggin' place is sold out!!
I was born in Texas but I grew up in southern Illinois but when I was seventeen or so I moved to Texas and lived there until coming up on ten years ago I got run over by a car going like 75 mph
Lyle lovett so under appreciated. A great live act, band and music.
My wife and I were at a B&B in New Braunfels, and they played this among others. I went thru several CDs before I found the song. I have enjoyed it ever since!
I'm from England but live in Texas. some of my workmates played this for me. I love it

I was at that show as well. Fabulous! Lyle in his prime. Wish I could find that concert on video.
I have seen him several times going back to the 90's (First show I saw he called out his then wife, Julia Roberts, who was in the audience. Yeah that far back) He has by far the tightest live show I have ever seen.
I was there
Francine Reed is such a gem. So talented with a very powerful voice.
I never tired of this song.
Born & raised in Texas... dreaming I can one day move back.
Rest In Peace Sweet Pea Atkinson. Thanks for the music...
Steve Jordan is the musical equivalent of 'everything everywhere all at once.' Guy is so legendary.
If this was church, the church would be "rocking and rolling", I am!🎙🎵💚

You are smart to vacate Texas during the hot months. Brutal

*BRILLIANT* and *OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE.*
Ghanaian and not from Texas but proud to hear this pure but comtemporary Texan music.
Texas wants you anyway!
So good. Perfect, really.

What kind of communists voted thumbs down on this greatness?
someone with absolutely no taste in music.
Probably some New Yorkers.
Nothin' to do with politics, just stupidity
They’re not from Oklahoma either, I promise.
Liberals

Spent a year in Texas one month. Have a good friend from New Boston, he still thinks bbq is cow, lol.
I always get goosebumps when I hear this one!

So much genius all there on one stage.
Whoo wee. It gets no better than that! Lyle Lovett come back to Sonoma soon
I may have just put a thumbs down to this song, Not on purpose. I was looking to see who would have done a thing like that.Lyle Lovett is the best!!!!!'
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE 💥
Great talent ALL OVER that stage.

@@ronniebishop2496 That's the song Arriving Somewhere Not Here by Porcupine Tree and completely different topic.
progrocker2112 Really. lol 😝
Played this for my filipina gf when visited when she asked why I kept saying "yes sir/ma'am, no sir/ma'am" to her family and insisted on taking food or flowers to everyone's house we visited
Yes Sir
Man alive when Francine started doing her thing at the end it gave me chills
This is what Bob Wills and Milton Brown started in Texas but it hit it big in Oklahoma, that’s right.
THIS is Texas SWING!!!
Well, that was hella satisfying!
This is my mom's finances theme song he fell in love with central Texas when we went there last year
Stuart Duncan on fiddle. Viktor Krauss (Alison Krauss's brother) on double bass.
that sounds like a good double for mr. Sklar :-)
and Matt Rollings on piano. What a band!
excellent direction on this video.
This song right here 💘💜💕✨🧡
Wow! Just wow!
That bass player snuck in a good little solo 3:45. Nice
You can draw a circle around part of Oklahoma and Texas and it's where music of all genres was not just sang but invented.
Center that in Lubbock and draw a 300 mile circle. Its either the air or water.
A real gem!
Texas.....the state of my heart......
Lyle is great!
still awesome!
No one ever 'talked' as breathtaking nice as this is to me. :)
Bilvis48 must be the luckiest person in the world to assume this is just talking.
Now that was fun!
Greatness! ❤
Love ❤️❤️
Happy 4th of July!
Stuart Duncan, best there ever was, is and will be!
Stuart Duncan on fiddle. Brilliant.
Lyle, you give Texas the right to claim the "Lone Star" moniker.
WoW!!!
Cool!
Boom chocks lotsa..aaaahhhhhh...
Can someone please tell me when & where this video is taken. I would really like to find a copy of the entier concert if it is available. Thank You
I believe it's from the concert when this album was recorded. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_in_Texas_(Lyle_Lovett_album)
@@UncleTonyGuitar Actually, he put out 2 DVD's from around that time. I think this is from the one called "Soundstage", which covered several artists; I have it plus one from that series by Chris Isaak.

dansamuels that's the one and only Steve Jordan. Did a double take myself, but he gives this classic a great new feel.

Sorry. Lyle is the worst singer I've ever heard.
