- I had an early start this morning... after a bad night's sleep with a lumpy bed and a pillow I would loved to have stabbed.
👣
So by 5am I gave up. Got washed, dressed, repacked my pack and set off. By 5.40am I was bidding fair well to the last street lamp and ventured into the darkness of the early morning.
👣
By 7.30am I was at Castrojeriz and stopped for breakfast No.1. After resting for 30mins, I headed off towards the dreaded Alto de Mosteleras with its 1km 12 degree incline climb.
👣
I am currently at the top, having tended to 2 new blisters (1 of which I didn't feel at all until putting back on my sock and noticed a lump of fluid). That is 3 on my right foot. None of my left (that I have found)!
👣
Next stop is Itero de la Vega where I will then decide whether to stop or keep going onwards to Boadilla del Camino or Fromista!
👣
Well, we went up the hill... so we had to come sharply down again!
👣
I was trying to hedge my bets by planning to stay in Itero de la Vega but I was really disappointed when I reached the town.
👣
It felt like a place the Camino had forgotten, or it had forgotten the Camino.
👣
So I filled up my water and ventured on towards Boadilla del Camino in the hope that things are much better there.
👣
At this point I had about another 4km to go and the later afternoon sun was still warming up... hopefully not too soon to allow me time to get somewhere to sleep and then some to get my clothes dried - otherwise I would either be a smelly peregrino or a naked one, and no one wants either of those options to come true!

Again, thank you for the drone shots as it is fascinating to get an aerial view of the Meseta… it’s beautiful!
Thank you Ann! It really is a beautiful part of Spain - challenging but beautiful! The flora and fauna along the entire Camino varies so much it would make a book in itself!
@@ColmMcCann it was lovely seeing all the wildflowers and hearing all the birdsong in your videos… makes me long to be out on my Camino… Thank you. Buen Camino
That one tree of shade. I have also used it on my travels on the camino.
It was such a welcome relief to find but disappointed about the mess around it... bit like the area behind the wall when you reach the top of Alto de Mostelares! 🤣
I'm so happy for you, I miss the Camino immensley, I plan to do the Portugese next year.
Ooh! I'm hoping to do it next with either my wife or eldest daughter! The Portuguese routes look lovely! Thank you for watching!
@@ColmMcCann wouldn't it be funny if we bumped into each other.
You never know! "The camino provides", 'n all that! 🤣
