    Fanboys are blind as bats, Dave as you well know! I was thinking about you caning 20 videos quick and sending it off so you get your money back and getting your afíliate link money as a kind of compensation!
    Knowing your experience and knowledge with cameras and audio, the GoPro shocked me. For that kind of money, you’d expect it to get a reasonable picture and do a pretty good job of metering etc., but that first video was all over the place.
    Thanks for the heads up, really appreciated. I learn so much from you during our chats. The recent one about 24/25 FPS almost has me converted now!!! It was that Liverpool video on the GP8 that did it. It’s dead smooth ……

    Hi mate, send it back. It's an optimised v11 so you are not going to get any further firmware or software updates to do reviews on. So let them know what you think by sending it back, and that gives them a strong message that you should optimise existing releases and bring new innovation to next releases.

      @DavidHarryUncut  Год назад

      Yes, you’re right. The only thing that you can hope for with the 12 is updates to fix bugs but no updates for new/better features. GoPro have gone beyond what the processor on the 11 and 12 can do now. We will only see a significant update once they make a new Hero with a new processor. Cheers, Dave.

    Keep it and milk it for every view, the test's I've seen is in perfect light it looks great but in anything not so light is rubbish. Boils down to the core functions of the GP- can it stabilise when doing anything 'actiony' including low light conditions. Also glad you are liking the Blackmagic App - it is almost everything I ever wanted in an App.

    • @DavidHarryUncut
      @DavidHarryUncut  Год назад +1

      Hi Tom. You’re spot on mate. I was talking with Ian Craig the other day and we were both saying that it can produce great footage when you’ve got the right light. We’re also convinced that the Heroes are generally balanced for certain condition, “Californian light”. As soon as you get to conditions that we typically have to deal with, then the Heroes can quickly fall apart. Don’t get me wrong, for those 5 minutes of good light that we usually get each year 😂 Then yes, even we can get great footage. Unless something catastrophic rears its head over the next couple of weeks with the 12, I’ll keep it and milk the views 👍 However, for my vloggy stuff, this new IPhone could be my answer, especially with that Blackmagic Camera app. In which case, the 12 may get ignored. Saying that, there’s nothing that can compete with a Hero for pure convenience, in certain scenarios and conditions when they are working properly. Except for stuff by DJI. But as good as the Action 4 is, I’ve now committed to seeing if I can replace the action cameras with a phone for my vloggy stuff and “off the cuff” stuff. It’s a good job I don’t ride a bike, as my practical options would be limited to action cameras 😁
      Cheers,
      Dave.

  • @KevinMuldoon
    @KevinMuldoon Год назад +2

    Hey Dave.
    I can understand your dilemma as the money could be put towards the new DJI model or towards another phone later.
    My GoPro 12 arrived tomorrow (after being delayed for four or five days).
    Like you, I have the 11. When I bought the 12, my thinking was that I'll have a little overlap where I have the 11 and 12 and see whether I'd use both cameras. For example, I thought I could use both in the car (but also know that I'll realistically not use both that often).
    After a few weeks, my suspicion is that I'll sell the 11 and keep the 12 alongside all my GoPro accessories etc. You should still get over £200 for the GoPro 11, which means I've upgraded for only £100.
    I'll probably do an unboxing and a couple of other opinion or accessory type videos, but I primarily bought the camera to be used. I like having an action camera in my collection as it allows me to film shots which my cameras and phones can't (e.g. running, driving etc). The ability to connect wireless mics could be a game changer (and make the mod mic a little reductant). I'm hoping that's good.
    For you, I think selling the 11 would make keeping the 12 an easier decision. As your friends suggested, you could do a lot of videos on accessories, mic tests or tutorials. Beyond that, I think it's useful to have it in your collection.
    For example. You do a lot of shooting out walking and using tripods etc. In that situation, a GoPro is a fantastic solution for getting a quick behind the scenes shot of how you have set things up. Consider it a useful B roll camera rather than the camera that ticks all boxes.
    Granted, you could also sell both GoPros and pick up a new action camera in the future. There's a good argument for that too.
    What I would say too is that another option would be to keep it three or four months, do a lot of videos and then sell it if you're not using it. You shouldn't lose too much doing that.
    Kevin

    • @DavidHarryUncut
      @DavidHarryUncut  Год назад +1

      Alright, Kevin.
      I think my dilemma now is that I have to get cracking on those iPhone 15 videos for my main channel. As I said I that last (stupid long 🤣) response to your comment on that other video. I've been sent an insane amount of product for use with the iPhone and also some new stuff for the iPad. So I'm not even sure how much time I'll have to do the Hero 12 stuff anyway.
      If I get any good numbers on my main channel in the first week of the iPhone videos, I may even send that 12 back, as that was my initial reaction anyway. I know I could keep it and do setup videos. However, as I've recently found on this channel, I've gotten more views talking BS than I get on practical example videos and I wont have any time for at least a month anyway to do any proper Hero 12 stuff. It may be the case that the 12 would just gather dust.
      If I can get the time, I'll keep it. If not, I'm likely to sell all my GoPro and DJI stuff except one thing. And the one thing may even be my Hero 8, as I've done so much with that and it is mostly well behaved.
      Have you managed to test your 12 yet? if so, what's your initial reaction?
      Cheers,
      Dave.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon Год назад +1

      @DavidHarryUncut haha I'm in the same situation.
      I was supposed to complete my webcam review the other day, but the microphone was terrible during my tests, so I've went back to them to double check I'm not missing anything (as I don't want to say they're terrible it they're not). So that video is on ice now 😭
      I was hoping to record the unboxing of the GoPro 12 last night, but we had a major issue in IT which was preventing us from developing apps locally. So I ended up spending time on a Google meeting call instead.
      I'm hoping to unbox it tonight, but there's a good chance I'll be exhausted as the little one didn't sleep much last night. So I'm running on empty. I do need to get it done though so I need to just suck it up and do it.
      Like you, my iPhone should arrive on Friday, so I'm keen to get the unboxing done. I'm going to be a charger and case etc too, so will need time to do those videos too.
      From a RUclips point of view, I guess you will get more views doing the iPhone stuff first, and then you can return to the GoPro stuff (though who knows as there's so many RUclipsrs that only do apple videos).
      If you're not feeling the GoPro, you could send it back and sell all your action camera stuff...and then adopt a "One action camera" policy where you only buy a new one when you sell the old one on.
      I suspect I'll sell my GoPro 11 in a week or so.

After buying the iPhone, I've been sent a lot of product to demonstrate with it for my main channel. Keep it. Many companies do what Go Pro is doing. Ask yourself, what physical components can they add to give it features the past ones don’t have and keep the relative costs in line?
    Another example: LG Oleds. I have the 2019 C9 model which was the first model to get HDMI 2.1; My parents got last year’s C2 model. It’s almost exactly the same TV hardware wise, but their being 3 generations newer; they get a dope ass gaming software setup that tells you when Freesync is active, what your VRR is - and the one that pisses me off the most that is exactly like your situation: Dolby Vision Gaming. My TV will only support Dolby Vision at 60hz on the XBox X. My parents TV will do DV gaming at 120hz on the XBox X. So what’s holding mine back from doing the same? Nothing but a firmware update. But will I get one? No. Because then why would anyone buy the new model?
    That’s just how it is now in tech. Everyone in tech adopted Apple’s model of giving everyone yearly Fomo for hardware that’s almost the same that doesn’t need to be replaced for several years.
    Rather than be angry about it, you should keep the camera, inform your viewers that they’re virtually the same and rather test the software and firmware differences between the two. And try to help your viewers determine if GoPro is making genuine advancement in their software and firmware that justifies upgrading from an older model or getting it over a new 11 being sold on clearance.
    That’s what I think you can do. Because what you’re angry about is standard in almost all forms of tech. If you can adapt to that perspective I bet you’d be on their influencer list in no time getting free gear to review.
    For what it’s worth, this GoPro 12 had the best stereo sound separation of any of the camera’s you’ve tested that I watched. I had my headphones on and the positional sound when you moved left, right, back, etc. was by far the best of any of those I’ve heard you test.
    Keep it Dave. I know you’re like me and you’ll regret losing it later over anger. Guys like us always want to be rocking the latest gear. 😜

    • @DavidHarryUncut
      @DavidHarryUncut  Год назад +1

      Hi, Gary.
      You are absolutely right. For the cost of manufacturing with many tech devices, true innovation will cost more than the consumer is used to, or willing to pay. As you rightly say, we see this all the time.
      I use LG monitors for my computers so I was interested in looking at their TVs. I went to Richer Sound and Lewis’s a while back to look at some LG TV’s. I managed to see three different C series TVs, I think Richer had an old one that was old stock. In causal viewing I couldn’t really see any difference across the three, definitely the last two were hard to tell apart.
      I get that they all had different image processing units, that get progressively better and I believe that the panel technology also improves with the progressive iterations. However, once anything has got close to, or peaked, in performance. It’s unlikely that you’ll see much improvement unless you take another step up financially.
      At that point, it’s usually firmware and software that makes the difference in “minor” updates. Although, there’s nothing minor about the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz, especially for gaming. So yes, whether it’s a GoPro Hero or LG TV, we are going to be forced to pay for minor updates with the latest one, that won’t ever be introduced in the previous one.
      On the point of gaming, I’m a mad casual gamer. I use the Series X and PS5. Although I don’t really game on PC, because I’m terrible with a keyboard and mouse. I’m fairly much agnostic with gaming tech. Although, I’m very partial to gaming on my iPad Pro, Warzone Mobile is my addiction at the moment.
      I use my iPads connected to a monitor via a USB C hub and play with a PS5 or SX controller. Basically, using the iPad as a console. And even though the iPad doesn’t have a 16:9 output. It’s basically a mirror of the iPad’s screen aspect ratio, roughly 3:2, pillar-boxed into a 16:9 frame. Plus, it’s only 60Hz. I just can’t stop playing on it.
      Actually, that also proves the point that if you use/play on something that’s got that killer app/game/function that you’re totally in to. Then updates or “the next big thing” quite often don’t matter anyway. Which is why many people are perfectly happy with their “older” action cameras or TVs.
      BTW. I’m getting that iPhone 15 Pro Max. If that has good cameras and can be used on an external monitor for gaming with its new GPU with more cores. I’ll be a like a dog with two dicks 😂
      Anyway, I’ll be keeping the Hero 12.
      Cheers, buddy.
      Dave.

      Hi. I get what you are saying and it does make sense when you look at it in a certain way. However, there's another way to look at this. Do GoPro really deserve our support when they are clearly not innovating? Cheers, Dave.

    i stubbled here because i am in the market for an action cam in near future, watched a few vids. which from your experience tells me the gp12 isnt for me. But as us southerns might say your a mouthy northern, which usually means you tell it the way it is. With perhaps no pleasantries, but thats fine. To much on the net of people being diplomatic. to cut it short i was going to say your not happy with it duck it off back to go pro........ But as you kind of do this as a source of revenue, would it pay for itself, doing more videos and certainly ones when Go Pro do an update to correct issues. TO tell your youtube followers that its still a crock of shite, or since the latest GP update its the best thing since sliced bread?... OK your attitude isnt going to get you on the go pro xmas card list, but whats better being honest or being diplomatic. but i do think you are right in that so many companies, release something that isnt ready for the public at large. So are so bad that no self respecting scouser would nick one let alone buy one. SOme get fixed over time with software updates and some dont. keep the world informed if it actually gets fixed..... As for your older go pros are you really going to do videos with them and about them? likely no, so recover a few quid and get shot of them

      The problem with things such as the Hero 12 is that after all the big suckhole channels have done their thing, most people/viewers just end up believing all the BS that’s being fed to them. Anyone being critical and telling the truth, may as well be pissing in the wind or pissing directly on themselves.
      If the morons and sheep just want to put the blinkers on and go into super fanboy mode, then fair enough, there’s f..k all you can do about that and those pricks don’t deserve to be saved. However, for anyone who is looking at all this with balanced and open minds. Then it’s always worth making videos that critique, as these help to balance the equation for the open minded.
      Anyway, I’ll keep making the videos for the enlightened and I don’t give a rats arse for those who just act on hearsay and jump on the bandwagon of the feeble minded. Like those who equate being a Scouser to being a thief 😂
      Cheers,
      Dave.
