Well as a marine biologist then I would have a big problem with the fact he's trotting around on the sea floor while magically stirring up no silt whatsoever! Still a cool game though! (Edited for terrible spelling)
@@Tuxedosandhandgrenades yeah it's a little bit of dilemna but this is a video game meant to bring awareness to this type of issue which is a win my book
@@Andrew_-nr7ztThat you’re a marine biologist, not a game programmer, I respect your input. Though it is but a game, it does indeed pack enough practical knowledge to those who will never take (or have) the opportunity to engage with the unquestionably largest, most relevant and most complex ecosystem on the planet we call home. I appreciate the numerous technical flaws, especially related to the technological metabolic issues associated with diving with “oxygen” at such depths. Then again, it is a game, not a training film. I am not a marine biologist. My fascination with the undersea world has been rewarding. I spent a week aboard the USF marine biology/oceanography research vessel, R/V Bellows (and I thought I knew all there was to know based on my near daily interactions with the environment). As a student, the amount of knowledge accumulated during that week answered so many questions I hadn’t bothered to ask. As a scientist, you’re likely to agree that, from each answer, two or more questions are born. To fully comprehend the larger part of a world within a world; one in which humans are ill-equipped to survive, is impossible. As such, I am certainly you specialize in a field of study that falls under the umbrella of marine biology. If I may be so bold… what is that you have chosen as your primary field of research? Game, or not, I appreciate the developers’ efforts to include no small number of relevant facts. Still yet, as thinking people with experience in the realm that lies beneath the waves, we understand that we are watching a plot-driven game that mixes relevant facts with substantial elements of science-fiction and fantasy. Whatever it takes, right? I appreciate your comments and endeavors to encourage others to learn about the largely alien environment that isn’t light years away; rather, it’s within a comparatively short distance and reach of anyone with the curiosity and ambition to explore what remains, “a strange new world.”
As a Marine Biologist as well I only imagine the insane carbon and material and chemical waste footprint involved in the creation and maintenance of a huge industrial underwater facility like that with all the tech, energy, fuel, oil and whatnot to make it run.
@@theyshouldhavenevergivenme5439 That marine biologists have a hard enough time being accepted as legitimate scientists isn’t helped by such a comment… The game clearly supported this very position. Note that the situation, which continually identified structural and operational weaknesses that more than subtly hinted that the operation was built upon both faulty assumptions and had poorly designed and maintained equipment - remember the diver’s frustration upon discovering that a critical structural component was hastily mitigated by the application of duct tape? The intentions were sometimes over embellished in the effort to demonstrate that the blind ambition and utter incompetence of the leadership, which sought to maximize profits despite being told that such an effort could lead to catastrophe? And… what did it lead to? Catastrophe, as predicted. Note that the main antagonist was clearly unqualified for the position. This was the intended takeaway; the irony underlying the entirety of the game. I am certain you took notice of he very obvious oil slick emanating from what could only be an electric powered craft. It’s all there. Maybe you were preoccupied with researching data relating to the multitude of ecosystems which thrive where many imagined they shouldn’t; better yet: couldn’t. Maybe (I’m hopeful) you skimmed through the gameplay without following the development of the story. I’m hoping, maybe, that you posted this to demonstrate absurdly by taking the absurd position, um… right? I’m making an attempt to bolster your credibility. I am really trying, my friend. It’s cool if you watched only parts of the whole, as scientists are typically consumed with their work, right??, Such an admission would do well to lend credence to your misunderstanding the blatant message, that some considered over the top; that being that the majesty of the deep didn’t exist in pipelines and oil drilling, but in the inexplicable circumstances that exist in an alien realm; one that never ceases to amaze us, and one about which we know so little. Remember the frustration our protagonist felt when he found plastic bottles and refuse in the deep waters? It was clear that he was far more in touch with the alien environment than that which made up the numerous pipes, trunklines and poorly maintained technical ‘gizmotrins.’ I have to know. Are you truly a marine biologist? If so, do you have a graduate degree, or are you an undergraduate working towards the same? How much diving experience do you have? Surely, you recognized the problematic gas mixes at depth (pure oxygen at such depths would be lethal). Recall the foolhardy misadventure of rapidly ascending from extreme depths to the surface - “to see what was going on?”Again, a fatal choice, as the accumulated amounts of nitrogen, previously in solution under great pressure, would’ve rapidly boiled into gas that would have left our hero, very much… dead.. such is the framework if the story. The technical elements were but a background to the majesty if the ocean. Upon hearing the whale songs, were you familiar with the source? Which whales are commonly associated with the same? It’s but a story that pits the majesty of an alien world against man’s attempts to impose his will without due consideration of that which exists beneath. It was this mistake that led to disaster. This time, the nature of the alien realm we understand least prevailed as the technological machinations fell prey to the unknown, and possibly, unknowable alien world that exists on this very planet, not on some unknown and unnaturally silent planet orbiting a star several hundred light years from Earth. Watch it again, if you have time. Best wishes.. I’m sure that you understood as much. Marine biologists have enough problems being taken seriously; surely you are using satire, right?
