After the Grenfell fire, I took a very cursory look into the issue of facade fires in high rise buildings. The issue I kept identifying was the use of substandard composite sidings manufactured in and exported from the People's Republic of China. There were several RUclips videos, since removed, which demonstrated these composites combusted very easily, and at points far below the required standards. i think Ms. Messerschmidt is speaking around the real issue here; this issue is not complicated, and centers around the phrases "cost effective" and "energy efficient." This is the issue: contractors rushing to fill the construction boom in the Gulf States, where the majority of these facade fires have occurred, have used, and may still be using, substandard materials which are not up to regulation. These materials are coming from a certain country. Thus any building which has either been constructed (such as the vast majority of Gulf State high-rises) or renovated (such as Grenfell) with such materials in the last 15 years is at high risk, and should be examined and prioritized for mitigation.
Thank you for this video. I teach the California State Fire Marshal course Incident Management of High Rise Fires, and I will use it in my next course.
The one thing I hear the most is, the cost to replace these facades out weights the risk to public safety. When will public safety come before money and profits?
You want to know what else is messed up? During grenfell, the people were told to stay put and rely on the building’s fireproofing, getting many of them killed. People were told to stay put in the twin towers, Joelma building fire, costa Concordia sinking, etc. People are told to stay put and to trust they’re not in danger. If you feel something’s not right, get the hell out of there!
Insightful video! Maybe this is not the place for discussion, but ever wondered if instead of removing and replace these facade material, place a fire retarding/proof material on top of them and isolate the contact with fresh air as a measure of containment. Yes, new buildings should not use these materials any longer, but for the old ones would have a immediate solution without the astronomical costs.
All countries should refuse to purchase or use cheap cladding and other building materials made in China. They don’t care about anything but money, and those who knowingly install substandard materials are just as culpable for the deaths, injuries, and property losses that result.

The flammable claddings were invented and made in China.
I'm an engineer so I know that the TRUTH must always be told.
Now, China is burning.

Australia had a fire two years before Grenfell in Melbourne

You should talk about the infamous Iroquois Theater Fire Circa 1903
Thanks for the video, its really informal!
I am from the UK was really sad
