We've been doing a little every year for several years. We took out junipers growing next to the house and way above the house. We replaced mulch around the house (5 feet) with gravel. We put in ember safe vents. We took out a foot of leaves under the neighbor's hedge between us. Took out some plants that were too close together. We are thinking now of putting in aluminum gates that adjoin the house, rather than the current wood. Not sure how much safer the aluminum will be, but seems like it would have to be better.
