- In the first part of this series exploring the career of Jon Jones, we take a look at his early years in the UFC. We watch as he becomes the youngest champion in UFC history, then defeats a legendary lineup of opponents. But even at this early stage of his MMA career, there were feuds and controversies that would foreshadow future events.

Jon Jones's career is huge movie material, the trouble is it's impossible to tell when we're in the third act.
It would be crazy if he got his life together.

I think his career and life in general would probably make a great movie that I could see happening one day - though like you said, it's difficult to know when that third act begins and ends. Certainly no shortage of material there as I'm sure you're well aware.
The real problem is he's so fucking unlikable! People won't connect with or root for a character like him! If the movie is ever made it could be good but not as an inspirational sporting movie but as a cautionary tale of how attention and fame destroy certain people.

I think Brendan could be left alone at this point. There are too many good stories out there to be told. It gets a little weird how much attention gets paid to calling out that guy. Seems like people watch TKATK just to look for things that Brendan says or does wrong and then report those things on Reddit, it’s a strange hobby. The Beige Frequency documentaries were justified and needed, but it’s weird now.

To think that, at the time of their fight, I couldn't stand Rashad Evans and actively rooted for Jones. I thought all of Rashad's talk about Jones being fake was simply an attempt to get in Jones' head and discredit him in the eyes of the fans. Turns out, Rashad was 100% right the whole time. Jones "good guy" image was all an act, which became abundantly clear as time went on when he was not able to hide his real personality anymore. Make no mistake, he is an amazing fighter, but he isn't anything like the "good Christian man" he pretended to be for several years.
Rashad's comments have definitely aged well.

It's actually crazy looking back and seeing how my perception of Jon has changed. Time is a helluva drug.
I felt the same way.. and I got Rashads character wrong as well over the years, he seems like a genuinely cool dude.
But the whole reason you MMA fans hated Rashad is the exact same reason you MMA fans have hated Jones since he first won the title, way before any legal issues he had.
I usually know very little or have little interest in the people you cover, but I always look forward to watching your uploads in full and I get to learn something new! The sign of a talented storyteller and creator. Thanks 😊
imo Jones shows why GSP is the goat. If Jon acted like a samurai OUTSIDE the cage he'd be holding 1 maybe 2 belts right now. A lot goes into a successful career. I'm not the biggest Jones fan but even I feel robbed of the great fights he could've had..
Jon's case for GOAT would be unimpeachable if hadn't been stripped and lost so much time to his various issues.

God damn shame, still just a phenomenal mixed martial artist. I remember talking to some friends years back about a crazy what if scenario, "what if aliens came to us and asked us to pick one person to fight their best fighter in one on one combat?" I picked Jon lol.

Dude was an amazingly smart fighter (though a bit dirty) a ton of charisma, knew how to make a fight a "must see" one of my favorite fighters ever. He had the world at his fingertips and just couldn't get out of his own way. It's a sad story about a man who had a ton of potential made it to stardom and still didn't reach his potential and just couldn't handle the pressure or just had a toxic relationship with partying
