    After thinking to myself, "What did I get myself into?" and "What is the return policy on this thing?", I stumbled across this video. In the hour and half I watched it, I got more done than last night when I spent four hours searching random videos/tutorials/support guides.

    I just purchased the S1 and have NEVER used one before. I searched and searched for a video and could not find a single video for 2 days. And right when I was going to give up, I found you! Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for all the information. I now feel that there's a little bit of hope. I've been also searching on how to create my own jigs. I ended up on purchasing a template on Etsy. I tried to set my S1 to cut the template up, but gave up. I'll try again since I found your video.

    As I wait for my S1, I have been going through tutorials. This tutorial is the by far best I have come across yet. It answered so many questions I had after downloading XCS. My only gripe is not directed towards you or this tutorial, but towards xTool. IMHO, they should have published something like this for their website. Thank you Buster Beagle 3D for the time and effort it took to do this for the S1 community.

    This is the most perfectly paced, academically balanced tutorial of any subject I’ve ever set out to learn. The fact that you present in a tone that doesn’t make me feel like a dumb-ass, or that you’re being troubled to go over such basic knowledge, is just icing on the cake. You rock, Man! I appreciate you, and can’t thank you enough, but here’s me trying 👊🏼 Thanks again. ✌🏼One more thing, I haven’t seen every second of the video yet, but where could a guy find the file for the S1 base plate, layout grid pattern. Great video. I will have to watch several times. I haven't set up my S1 yet but will have to come back to review different steps. One question, If you put the grid on the pan It will only work for engraving as when cutting it would mark on the pan and destroy the grid. If you use the honeycomb you have lost the placement lines and can't position your workpiece where you want it and when you cut it will still pass thru to the pan. How do you protect the grid on the pan from being damaged? Will you be putting updates out on the new changes in xcs? Thanks again for the great video.

I did purchase the grid from you and I'll be receiving my S1 tomorrow. I love that idea of the grid being placed on there but im so afraid im going to mess it up. I did hear you say you would just paint over it if you had to but tell me more about how you set it up on XCS. Was it scored on there? and where would I position it to where the base plate would be even?

    • @BusterBeagle3D
      @BusterBeagle3D  Год назад +1

      Hi. You really should just be able to open the file and run it. All of the settings should come with the file in XCS. It's set to SCORE Power 70%, Speed 60mm/sec if you wanted to doublecheck it. Also you have to set your distance but that's really it. This is also assuming you have the 40W version but the settings are probably not that different for the 20W as well.

    This is such a great tutorial, thank you. I just got my S1 today (upgraded from D1) and I am doing some inlays. I did a coaster with a "W" inlay with no problem, but when I try to create an outline around a word so I can offset the kerf, it won't capture the inside of the letters. I tried exporting the text as an SVG and reimporting it but that didn't work either. I'm guessing it needs to be an image as opposed to a vector so I can remove the background? Any help is appreciated.

    • @BusterBeagle3D
      @BusterBeagle3D  10 месяцев назад

      Thank you. Try to create your outline of the text so that it created that outer offset. Then select the text again and pull the outline tool in the opposite direction and depending on how far you pull it you will eventually only be left with the outline on the inside of the closed shape letters. Pull it too far and it will just disappear so you have to be gentle. It might be easier if your text is large to begin with and then scale it down after you have your outlines.

    • @soulmatesandsawdusttn
      @soulmatesandsawdusttn 10 месяцев назад

      Ok I tried that and I see how that could work but I don't think I can get it to fit perfectly as an inlay using the original text.@@BusterBeagle3D

    First, thank you for the informative video, it helped me understand the software a bit more. I set my S1 with the file provided by Xtool but it seems my work area is a bit larger than yours. How did you come to those numbers? Thanks again.

    • @BusterBeagle3D
      @BusterBeagle3D  9 месяцев назад

      If you are referring to the grid file I intentionally make it slightly smaller then the full workable area just for a few reasons. One is to make sure it can always actually reach the position as machines, especially the D1 I found, can't actually reach the entire workable area without hitting the frame. The other is to make the numbers easier. It's just easier to make a grid where X240 Y 150 is the center rather then X 249 Y159.5.

    • @giannilopez333
      @giannilopez333 9 месяцев назад

      @@giannilopez333The 0,0 position of the grid and of the software either though xTool Creatvie Space or Lightburn is the same. All coordinates of the grid should match the coordinates in either software package. Where you place your art in the software should correspond to the burned grid.

    Hi Ryan.. I loved your video... Very informative.. But, I do have a question for you about Creative Space. I do not remember if you mentioned this about this software.
    Do you need to have two different pieces of software if you had two S1's? And, can you run them at the same time as you can in Light Burn?
    Last but not least.. Can you use the same software for both the S1 and P2?
    Thank you so much..

    • @BusterBeagle3D
      @BusterBeagle3D  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hello. I have not tried to run 2 instances of Creative Space on 2 machines at the same time. I also don't think it would be wise or even possible to have Lightburn and Creative Space running and connected to the same machine at the same time. You may however be able to have Creative space connected to one and another machine connected to Lightburn at the same time but again I have not attempted that. And yes both the S1 and P2 can run with both xTool Creative space and Lightburn. However if you want to take advantage of all of the features of the S1 and P2 you will want to run Creative Space and not all of the features are compatible with Lightburn.

    Thanks, your tutorial has been quite valuable. I just upgraded from a D1 to an S1. I used Lightburn on my D1 but am learning XCS so I can utilize the bells-and-whistles on the new machine. One problem I'm facing is that an exact same engraving project will take 2 time longer on the S1 versus the D1, even though I set the speed 2 times faster on the D1! The reason seems to be that Lightburn efficiently burns the entire project left to right, top to bottom no matter how many components (vectors) are in the project. XCS appears to burn one individual component then moves onto the next one, etc. Even letters are burned one-at-a-time. Have you experienced this and, if so, what is your solution?

      @BusterBeagle3D  9 месяцев назад

      Other then changing bi-directional and unidirectional you pretty limited on telling xcs the tool path you want to use like you can in Lightburn. You also have no control overt the travel speed which is really why it's probably faster in Lightburn more then the fact that it does one shape at a time. With letters I wonder if you click the weld button if it will burn then all at the same time. Only a guess but I would try that.

      @kenbrown7334 9 месяцев назад

      @@BusterBeagle3D You're right, when I weld the letters they become one "object" and get burned together. Good to know. The weld option won't work in all cases but might for many.
      I want to like XCS but there are several frustrating things about it that push me back to Lightburn. I'm hoping with continual improvement it will get to a point where using it is a no-brainer for xTool hardware owners.

      @@kenbrown7334 Glad that helped a little. yeah XCS has come a long way but still has a ways to go. It's been updated many times already and I saw on the Facebook group there was a major update coming but haven't heard much else other then that.

    Great video & extremely well explained & really helped me using the S1 for the first time. Just one question, is moving of the laser head only done using the arrow symbols in xcs or can it be done by moving it physically with your hand?

    • @BusterBeagle3D
      @BusterBeagle3D  Год назад

      You can move it physically with your hand. The laser positioning system will still record it's coordinates.

    I am a laser noob. I have the 20W version and have watched this tutorial a few times. Thank you for this, it has helped a ton. I have a question about the noises I get from my laser. Not ever owning one I don't know what is normal. Mine has a chirping sound at certain speeds. I am only on day two of using it and I am having fun learning the ins and outs of the hobby. Thank you.

    • @BusterBeagle3D
      @BusterBeagle3D  Год назад

      Not exactly sure what chirping sound you are referring to. It's possible you have some kind of squeaky wheel so if you can pinpoint it you might be able to use some of the grease that came with the machine to eliminate it.

    Have the same question as the person above. I just purchased the grid file. The only thing is how do you go about positioning the engraving? Do you do a two point position of the entire surface and then center the grid file? Sorry brand new to this and I just received my S1

    • @BusterBeagle3D
      @BusterBeagle3D  Год назад

      Hello. You should just be able to open the file and run it in XCS. It should open up in the correct spot and you don't need to use the 2 point position thing. You just have to make sure your distance is set correctly and that's it.

    Hello, you’ve tried both lasers the xtool s1 and the roly 30w. Which do you prefer and if you had to buy one which would it be?
    Thanks great videos

      Thank you. I have the 20W Roly and the 40W S1. They are both good machines but if it was my money comparing 20W models I would have to say the Roly. If you don't care about the 3D engraving or conveyor you get a great machine for a good amount less.

      @@BusterBeagle3D thank you. I am leaning that way right now. I have a 5w genmitsu laser and I really like it. I also have millwright cnc and I like that too. I’ve heard that xtool doesn’t have very good customer service. Man do they spend a lot of money on advertising. The roly seems like a very well built machine with a lot of stuff for a decent price. Its build looks nice and sturdy. I also really like the built in enclosure.
      I’m excited about getting one , basically upgrading my laser. In all honesty I enjoy using the laser much more than the cnc and I may be selling it soon.
      Thanks again for the input and you are the second person who has pretty much said the exact same thing.

    Do you know what the resolution of the laser is in DPI? As in when I'm using a raster image what I should aim for?

    • @BusterBeagle3D
      @BusterBeagle3D  Год назад

      It depends on the version of the laser you have. The spot size of each of the lasers is different. The higher the wattage the larger the spot size. This website has a good chart that shows the maximum DPI you can achieve with different scan gaps. You can pretty much think so the scan gap as your laser spot size so you can see what dpi your machine can reach.
      www.imag-r.com/scangap
      I guess for an easier answer the 40W is 254dpi, The 20W is 318dpi.
