My local chippy, now charges £7 for a Haddock. (In North East England) So these supermarket ones are excellent value. It never ceases to amaze me how there is enough fish in the sea to feed everybody. But it is my favourite food. These Air Fryers are a revelation. Intend to get one soon, possibly the Oven-Type with see-through window. Thanks for the steer.

Coming from a coastal fishing town in Northern Ireland, Cod has always been classed as a 'dirty' fish, because it's a bottom feeder, eating anything from condoms to used sanitary towels, and also it has Cod Worms in the meat you're eating. Haddock is a middle feeder, and is always, ALWAYS my choice when eating chippy fish, or prepared fish like this. I love the Lidl battered Haddock fillets with tartare sauce...Delish! 😋😋😋😋

The shape of the heads of these fish says otherwise. The mouth of a cod is terminal, (it's at the end of the fish), whereas the mouth of a haddock is ventral (it faces down) and a quick look on-line at the recorded diets of these fish shows that: "Haddock feed on a variety of bottom-dwelling animals, including mollusks, worms, crustaceans, sea stars, sea urchins, sand dollars, brittle stars, and occasional fish eggs. Adults sometimes eat small fish, especially herring", whereas "Adult cod are active hunters, feeding on sand eels, whiting, haddock, small cod, squid, crabs, lobsters, mussels, worms, mackerel, and molluscs. In the Baltic Sea the most important prey species are herring and sprat".
Personally, I eat haddock because it's tasty, not because of some daft old wives tales.

Aldi battered cod and haddock are great as well. I also note the ALDI ones have a much lower sugar content 0.8% opposed to 2%..in Morrisons. that's where the extra weight will come from, Sugar.

The Morrisons fillets are not bigger!!!
The weight figures cover them for any variation in the weights, especially as crumb will be lost in the box. The figure represents the lowest that any individual fillet weighs. The total of four fillets and the crumb will come to 500g. If both are four fillets weighing a total of 500g they all average 125g each. Any difference between the Aldi and Morrisons weight figures is just a result of a larger variation in the Aldi product.

I believe that all packs of frozen fish products are required by law to carry a code in a small oval indicating the plant of production. In the case of the Morrisons pack shown here the code is GB (it used to be UK before we left the EU) GG 268 which is one of the Young's plants at Grimsby. The Aldi pack has the code PL 32611802 which indicates that it was produced in Poland although I don't know the exact location of plant 32611802 or the name of the producer. Many other foods such as beef or pork products, although not chicken for some reason, are also required to carry such identification.

Do you think they will ever put the cooking times for the air fryer on the box, or is the fryer just a gadget that will disappear in time

I think they will. I don't think it will disappear. Trouble is there are so many different sizes and Watts.

Bald foodie guy…….you might have wanted to weigh the contents of each box in your comparison. The weights have a % tolerance. Keep up the good work👍

I am sure Aldi was 500and Morrison 400. This would make the difference in value even more amazing. Ok one of your replies said both 500g. Whatever, I have added Aldi /bald guy to my shopping list. Keep on eating.
