  • Foreigner tries Indian food: mangos. Summer in india means hot weather, warm monsoon rains and the best part of all: mangos! Living in India as a foreigner I've tried a lot if Indian food. However mangos are special because they're only available for a limited amount of time during the year. There are so many varieties and I've never seen this many anywhere outside of India. You might not think of visiting India during the summer but trust me the mangos are so worth it! Hope you enjoy this foreigner tries Indian food episode with mangos.

    FAQ's:
    Q Where are you from?
A I am born in former Yugoslavia. Mom is Serbian, Dad is Bosnian. During the '90's war we came to the Netherlands and I got Dutch nationality. I've lived in Amsterdam for 8 years but lost my heart to India. Since 2018 I'm based in Bangalore. See this video for my refugee story: bit.ly/2l17T9h
Q How can you afford to travel so much?
A I saved for 3 years while working full time and now travel vlogging is my job. I work together with tourism agencies but also do some freelance work on the side. You can watch this video: • HOW TO TRAVEL THE WORL... and this one: • HOW TO SAVE MONEY FOR ... to learn more about my story.
Q What camera do you film with and what editing software do you use?
A Canon G7X Mark II and Final Cut Pro X
    Q (Why) Are you vegetarian?
A I'm vegetarian but not strict. I don't eat any meat, fish, cooked/boiled or fried eggs. I gradually became a vegetarian over the course of 15 years because I disliked the taste of meat more and more. After doing a yoga teacher training in 2015 I also quit fish and the eggs. No matter my food preferences I have no issues with other people not being vegetarian. I don't judge others and kind of expect the same favor from others concerning my own food preferences. It makes for a more friendly world :-)
Q Why do you usually travel alone?
A Because my friends have jobs with limited holidays, kids and partners. Also I really like exploring on my own.
Q Why do you love India so much?

Ratnagiri Alphonso is better than the Alphonso that's grown in Karnataka...the latter is yellow & the former more orange inside..there's quite a bit more of threads in the latter as well and it leaves a certain kinda taste in your mouth that the Ratnagiri alphonso doesn't...
I think the "Mumbai alphonsos" grow in Ratnagiri and Devgad..

The Delhi government used to have a mango festival which had almost every type of mango from India and all sorts of mango products like mango chutney, mango juice, dried raw mango powder, mango jam, mango flavoured sweets, mango ice -cream etc. You have to try the very dark brown sticky and chewy 'Aam papar' or dried mango pulp (not the orange coloured one ). My favourite mangoes are ' Langra' and 'Chausa'.And you absolutely have to try mango dessert made of peeled and diced mango served with vanilla ice cream.

TRAVEL VLOG IV I do love it here. Especially the idea of bike lanes, reliable public transport, clean streets, quality food, beautiful places to see. But what i don't like is the weather in winter, people smoking in public, bland food, costly food delivery (especially if you are a student,
damn swiggy, i miss you), disappointing mangoes, overall i miss the buzz and chaos in India. You should hire a car drive to places near by bangalore. Visit temples in Belur and Halebeddu, stay a night in a chikmangalur coffee plantation , drive to ooty through bandipur , safari in nagarhole , OMG, the list goes on...

Malda is a district from the state west Bengal ( where I am from)...
The neighbouring districts like south Dinajpur , Murshidabad, etc has many very rich flavoured mangoes...
Some of are here called .....
Himsagar, Gopal vog, Lakshman vog, Nangra, Khirsapath, guthli, dudhiya, - these are the mangoes to be eaten when they are ripe....
Kaccha mitha and fajli are usually eaten when they are still green...
But sometimes people eat fajli in ripe condition...
There is an another mango named 'aswina' which becomes ripe during September October ( in the time of retreating monsoon).
The name "Ashwin" is a name of a month in Bengali calender hence the mango name is aswina...
It is good but not good as summer mangoes...
(I'm not a mango expert but I think these are the most common mangoes in West Bengal (aka Malda).

I like Safeda Mango, big and sweet. That's what find in most juice shops in north during beginning of season. Sone mangoes are available at begining some during mid and some by the end of the season. Many of the varieties are exported and bot available in the market easily except in region where they are grown
