Hi vision Yes it's a pity as it used to be a decent show but they have definitely lost 8 customers from now on Being a keen RC modeller I used to go to the Woodvale Rally every year since the world's championships of 1978 till it finally finished. My (now adult) daughters used to love the drive down there over the ups and downs of the coast road ...it was like being on to the big dipper...it's much flatter now Like you say they need a complete change of the planning committee for next time employing people who actually know how to do it.
Fairways car park is rarely used for car parking, it serves as an alternative park and ride on occasions. For most of the year it's used to store road repairing materials & vehicles. I live near the coast road & never pay to go, it's the only sea front display in the country that charges. They don't have the local microlight club in attendence or visiting light aircraft anymore either. It's been a bad few weekends for cross town travel in Southport recently, a week or so later the road was closed for a car speed event and a week later probably closed again (certainly busy) for the Fireworks Championships.
Thanks for that Les....yes a pity as I used to enjoy the show....also as in my reply below I was a keen visitor to Woodvale Rally every year since 1978...my kids loved it pity that has stopped....my first ever experience of flying was in a chipmunk from Woodvale when I was in the ATC circa 1971 Thus years airshow experience has ruined it for any others now
Not the first time I've heard poor reviews about Southport air show over the years. Would you chance being ripped off again next year knowing the experience could be even worse? I know it's on a different level but, for aircraft enthusiasts, you can't beat RIAT at Fairford.
Hi John ...yes as you say lots of complaints...I have been most years and there is always a jam (each year Sefton council say they will sort it but never do) but never like this year No I will DEFINITELY not go again Fairford is one of the few I haven't been to.....would love to go...been to Duxford a few times plus Cosford...Finingley (before it became Doncaster airport) ...Old Warden a few times inc the twilight ones at night....and lots of small grass type ones like Barton when it was on and wings and wheels. All have been great...southport USED TO BE good but everything about it this year was bad even if the red arrows had displayed
@@TomsManShed Can't believe you haven't been to RIAT. Organisation got better over the years at Fairford. I haven't been for about 10 years now so can't comment on current situation but boy was it a FANTASTIC day out. Aircraft take off as soon as current aircraft exits the runway, non-stop for at least 7 hours. Static display was enormous too, with great photographic opportunities. Trade stalls and exhibitions etc. Overall, probably too much to see in one day. If you're interested in aircraft, particularly military, then this is the place to visit. Tickets per person pricey but worth it. Will never forget my first time visiting due to two Russian Mig29's crashing back in 1993
Hi John ...sorry for the long delay...yes must try to get to RIAT one year....re those Migs....yes I remember watching it a few times online....tickled me the way one of the pilots after ejecting just lit up a cigarette and had a smoke :) @@johnkoenig8739
Thanks Tom, living in Southport it is hard to get it into the council's head that somethings are really crap and need sorting.
