Just want to say that this recipe is really good!! I made a half batch, added the zest of one whole lemon to the batter, and added the juice of half a lemon to the icing. The icing was thin, so I should have used less milk than I did (I used 1/4 cup but wasn’t thinking lol). Anyway, I just added powdered sugar to thicken it again and had leftover icing. 11/10 taste and texture. Better or equal to the recipes I have acquired from other nonnas in my life. To anyone else making this, make dough balls smaller than you think you should. I used a medium cookie scoop and had to level the top off every time I scooped because the cookies on my first pan were massive. I made about 20 cookies, of course, you should aim for more. Also, this is so much easier and cleaner than rolling the dough out into logs and making little snowmen ☺️ THANK YOU ❤️
Thank you! My Nona taught me to make these very fast and no measurements. I was able to remember other recipes but not this. I was young and needed to write it down. She had these every Sunday when we’d go over her house. She passed before we had kids and I’m always looking for this recipe to make for all of them. Can’t wait to try them!
May I ask , how is the texture of them ? Are they soft or a little toward the harder side ? I’m asking this question because there used to be a brand called o’doro I believe. My grandmother used to make the best cream puffs you’ve ever tasted in your life , but she used those specific cookies . They discontinued them in maybe 2009 😭 I just found this out yesterday and I am devastated. I’m trying to find something similar. Thanks in advance
I am a new subscriber and I absolutely LOVE your videos. I am a first-generation Italian American, my family is from Naples, and we cook exactly the same. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Wow.... delish Hedy!! ..... and for once I have all the ingredients. I'll be making these tomorrow morning, too hot in KC right now to heat the house up. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. Bless!!
I made these cookies for the first time and they came out perfect! Since then every time I make them they get really flat after I take them out of the oven, what am I doing wrong? They won’t puff up anymore Idk why or what I’m doing differently! They still taste delicious but they don’t stay puffed up. I refrigerate them anywhere from 3 hours to 24 hours before I bake them too! Anyone have any advice?? Thanks!
@@NannysItalianKitchen should I add more flour? I’m following the recipe exactly and my dough looks the same every time. The only difference that I can think of is the first time I used bleached flour by accident and every other time I’ve used unbleach and they are flatter
@@xtinarich1798 if you’re following the recipe exactly I don’t know why they are flattening. I use unbleached flour. If you add a little flour it might be okay, but too much flour will make them hard and dry.
Delish Hedy! Thank you! Bless!!

My Aunt Josephine Laverde always made those for us. Delicious. I tried, they were okay but not like hers. Thank you for posting this.

Patti Coppla will do a video soon Patti.
@@NannysItalianKitchen thank you so much!
I loved your wine cookies. Your apron is great too
They look beautiful, Hedy! My favorites, and my family loves them too.
In Jersey we call those Italian knot cookies. And they usually have anise flavor in them.
steve jrzmac Yes I’m familiar but we don’t like anise flavor. Prefer vanilla.
Hedy love your videos
Hi Hedy, very happy to see you. Your recipes are the best. I'll be making these soon. 😃
Those look good and they make a lot! Could freeze a batch without the frosting. Love the recipe and seeing you ! Thanks Hedy!

MoMan I’m going to do clams oreganota soon. Thanks for the support.
I call them..yummm😉👍👏❤️
Hi Hedy! These look delish. Would you ever add anisette, or would that make it a different kind of cookie? I love your apron! All my best.
I would add it
You can add anisette. Some people add lemon juice and rind in the batter and icing.

Maybe they are too wet.
