    We make Biscochitos, a traditional cookie in NM - (Biscochitos are our official State Cookie) ! These are made using Anise seeds and or Anise extract, some ( rum, brandy, or wine ) and lard. Yes, lard. They are eaten year round, but are most popular at Christmas, and other celebrations, like weddings. They are topped off with a cinnamon and sugar dusting. Some add the cinnamon and sugar before baking, others after taking out of the oven. They are heavenly. Traditional Spanish / Mexican influence.

      ledzepgirlnmful Mm my favorite! Nobody ever knows what I’m talking about when I try and explain Biscochitos to them! I usually end up saying they are similar to Snickerdoodles just add Anise. Though in reality nothing can compare to Biscochitos.

    i made these for xmass best cookies ever and easy to make ,i love all lauras recipes she is the best,im 82 and still like finding new recipes ,i am half italian and love the way she cooks

    At first I was thinking that I haven't had these, but as you made the dough I realized that my Nonna does make them, but she doesn't twist them, she just forms them into round cookies. So good.. I can taste them now.

      What do you usually bake at Easter? Here in the UK I make hot cross buns, Simnel cake and Easter biscuits.

    I feel like Italian food and Algerian food are similar, there's so many recipes that we make as "traditional recipes" that you guys have too .so exciting we do have the same cookie recipe for spring baking 😍😘 love you laura

    I use freshly squeezed lemon juice instead of water for the drizzle. ...amazing and not overpowering!

    We make these every year:) My family makes(and shapes/decorates) ours a bit differently but anise cookies are honestly the best. I can never stop eating them 😩❤😍

    What is the difference between Italian baking powder and the regular baking powder?

      I don't know about the baking powder, but the sprinkles are special. It's really hard to find the proper, super shiny silver ones in the US!

    How much milk do you put in the half batch? There's no mention of milk in the written recipe... And what is "pandegliangeli" or "BP"? That's in the written recipe but not in the video...

      Pan Degli Angeli is a italian brand who sell baking stuff, "BP" stand for Baking Powder.

    When your familys version of these cookies takes an entire bottle of anise extract......and the number one complaint is that the flavor doesnt come through enough 😆😆😆😆

    It’s pupa cu l’ova doll and egg cookie. Sicilians put the boil egg in the middle like a Easter basket or the doll shape with the boil egg. You dont do that so it’s why it makes no sense to u

    My mama taught me to use Annisete liquor, instead of extract...the flavor is mellow & real. None of the extract "ick"
