Eastern Europe might not be everyone’s number one travel destination. Communist-era buildings, the conflicts in the 1990s and border disputes in recent years have meant much of the region has been overlooked by potential tourists. But with its patchwork of pretty, pastel-colored old towns, incredible ancient history, exciting nightlife, and nature from sprawling lakes to swooping mountains, Eastern Europe is a surprising delight. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Eastern Europe:
Eastern Europe is the most underrated part of Earth.
Such a beautiful nature and culture, perfect for rest of towns, traffic and noises.
Greetengs from Serbia.
dont tell anyone! or the tourorrists will come...
Agree that you right...!
Greetings from Kosovo
Greetings from Hungary
Greetings from Romania. I'm planning a trip to Belgrade from Bucharest. How many days do you think would be optimal to visit the city? Including Novi Beograd, love me some communist architecture.
Missing Gdansk in the list. At the Baltic Sea, lovely Old town and still very affordable.
Gdansk is stunning
Try city Gdank till Gdynia is splendid.
That's interesting because you can see gdańsk at 0:04.
Eastern Europe is one of the best destination in the Earth
ахахахаха, пусть эта мысль тебя согревает))
Yeah
Latvia is officially part of NORTHERN EUROPE,but thank you for including us in video
By that definition, so is everywhere else. I mean "one of the best" out of how many places?
Diana Leinasare Well, it can be both East and North at the same time, for example, the Balkans are in Southeastern Europe, so you can kinda put them in both categories when making a video like this. 😅
The truth is that the top five places are overloaded with tourists. There are many more beautiful places in Eastern Europe where there are not so many tourists yet. I am from Poland, so I will give it as an example. Krakow and Warsaw are the most popular cities, but there are also Gdańsk, Toruń, Wroclaw, Poznań, Łódź, Lublin, equally beautiful and rich in history. Small historical towns like Sandomierz, Kazimierz Dolny, Brenna, Sanok, Zamość. Many castles, landscape parks, Mazury land of a thousand lakes, mountains. I encourage everyone to look for less known tourist destinations, they are more authentic.
I enjoyed Poznań more than Warsaw, more manageable and I feel like I „know“ Poznan‘ after only a few days,.

Nice input. Thanks
i'm from thailand and i love krakow and bucharest more than paris and london
I'm from Bucharest and I can tell you while visiting is clearly an amazing experience, living here isn't.
You sure that you meant Bucharest or did you meant Budapest?
I'm french and i prefer Budapest or Prague as Paris honestly
@@Marius048 I live in Budapest, it is amazing i am so lucky i was born here.
Krakow of the 1990s perhaps, but after 2010 unlovable.
In many of these places, people there will tell you you‘re not in Eastern Europe, you‘re in Central Europe, (or Southern Europe.) But yes, people who see only Western Europe are missing out on a lot!
The list should also include Ljubljana, Slovenia 🇸🇮
i agree. lovely and beutiful city.
...and Bled, Slovenia, magical place, loved it. Greetings from Poland
@@justynadzt7728 Greetings :)
Wow, Europe is blessed with eternal beauty. If I ever do vacation outside the US, these would be the natural places to visit. :)
Eastern Europe is truly beautiful, thanks for this amazing video! Love, from Transylvania!
Eastern Europe is one of the few places on Earth which are still ... Europe.
For real tho
So true.
I was just going to say that. Western europe are all liberal shitholes.
WTF just go to Spain but Barcelona Madrid and Ibiza and youll see the real europe
Why do I get the feeling that you arent even from europe?
Europe is No. 1 on earth.....
Best greetings from the Black Forest
Europe is blessed with beauty
I could add 25 places to visit only from Croatia shouldn't be enough. Personally, Croatia is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever seen. Additionally, you can also find 25 places to visit from every single country from Central and Eastern Europe. Truth is, this part of Europe are so incomprehensible underrated.
definitely the most underrated area in the world
@EZ I love Israel and want to visit. My Ukrainian grandmother loved Israel and finally got to visit and loved it.
I have personally been to Prague, Budapest, Krakow many times, and heard that Moscow and Saint-Petersburg became also magnificent. They are on my bucket list.
It is worth to note that these places are not cheap any more for the westerners, those days are long gone. However, they still offer a great value over London or Paris.
Maybe not those places, but other places in Eastern Europe are still cheap compared to Western Europe, such as Montenegro, Albania, Estonia Bulgaria, Estonia and Latvia.
9:02 , it wasn't "very much damaged" during World War II, it was completely destroyed and rebulit.
only the old city
Prague has definitely too much tourists to still be able to enjoy it.
Cracow too
True.
Go there off season or dont be lazy to get up early and its fine.
I have nothing against Prague in itself though I'd not put it at number 1. That's Dubrovnik, Mostar or Kotor fjord.
Not right now, but of course we are on lockdown due to the virus.
Greetings from Slovenia 😄🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮
pozdrowienia dla Słowacji 👍🌷✌️
If people realized how beautiful Slovenia is, it would be overrun with tourists! We drove over from Italy and spent 3 wonderful days in Piran, Ljubljana and Lake Bled. Wish we could have stayed longer.
@@itsjustme4848 that is so true.... my mum is from Slovenia, near Kamnik (which is a beautiful little town as well, btw). As a child i wished to live there, in the mountains, but life had other 'plans' (so i ended up in australia). btw, there is no comparison between europe (east or west) and australia.
slovenia is soooooo beautiful the mountains and of course ljubljana are amazing
There is more to Romanian than Transylvania. The wonderful Danube Delta and the fabulous monasteries in Bucovina are worth seeing, as are, in Transylvania, the very well preserved medieval citadel of Sighisoara and the art-deco town of Oradea.
Yes, I liked Romania when I went there in 2013. I loved Peles Castle and Sibiu.
It was for sure not beach vacations that ranked very high. But very nice video. thanks

There are several definitions of Eastern Europe. In this video I've used a very broad one that is also used by Lonely Planet among others. However you can argue that this video is about East and Central Europe. Anyway, enjoy!
Fun fact. Prague is located west of Vienna and Stockholm, so much to "Eastern Europe". It is also the opposite of a hidden treasure as its one of the most overrun tourist destinations in Europe. That said, like Venice it is fully justifiably overrun by tourists as it is a stunning place.
@@sagichnicht6748 Fun fact - Czechia is also a slav country - full of slav people that speak a slavic language and also share common recent history with Russia and the rest of Eastern Europe. It's about culture, people, language and not so much about location. Cuz if it would be geographically based only - Bulgaria, Albania, Macedonia are all in Southern Europe.
@@sagichnicht6748 Good point. Romanians only reluctantly admit they are "Eastern Europe" because of the location, but they see themselves as an island of western culture/people surrounded by slavs; their orthodoxy is also historically a reaction against the Popes who wanted to bring them under their fold, and they resisted it - so basically a kind of - sort of protestantism before protestantism. They are essentially Carpathian highlanders speaking Romanian since Roman times - Wallachians (plus Saxon settlers with which they partly intermingled in Transylvania or which they completely assimilated in Moldova) that resent any domination or encroaching over their freedoms - see the case of the Bohemian Wallachians who didn't obey to Habsburg rule but were ultimately destroyed by the Habsburg when they got surrounded by catholic powers and couldn't have the support of Danish, Swedish and Hungarian protestants anymore. BTW, Hungarians are catholic with the exception of the areas bordering Romanian populations (like along eastern Hungarian border with Romania and in Transylvania - where also the Saxons were and are protestant). So basically being Latin-speaking orthodox was what projected their cultural identity, which anyway is a synthesis of ancient Dacian, Graeco-Roman, Gothic, Saxon (and other Germans), and a bit of Slavs (which were actually themselves, those bordering Romanians, in fact slavicized Goths and Romanians rather than slavs proper -- all areas bordering Carpathians are like this, including Southern Poland, eastern Czechia, then Slovakia and Western Ukraine. Anyway, cultural richness and syncretism is a good thing! :)
@@sofron1977 Yes, We share recent history with Russia, like when they invaded us in 1968, oh sorry I got it all wrong, They came to help us, wonder why they brought tanks...
@@KaterinaNov Yes, agree there was no Russian liberation, more like Russian invasion but I hope you know the forming of the Eastern Bloc and areas of influence was in a way agreed upon with the west after WW2. We leave this aside - the fact you have common history with the Germans, doesn't mean that makes you "Central Europe", same as we had 500 years of common history with the Ottoman Empire - which doesn't make us West Asia nor Turks. So we have to leave culture, language and ethnicity aside - because you Czechs are slavs - like the rest Eastern Europe. Your DNA is primarily is Balkan and Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Russia, Belarus etc). Now, I don't see any particular reason to leave aside culture, language and ethnicity apart from pleasing the "superiority complex" that Czech people have over the rest of the slav countries. But let's say I do...let's say - ethnicity and language doesn't unite us together. Then very well, Bulgaria is Southern Europe. Cuz that's where it is on the map. Same with Albania, Macedonia and everything on the Balkans. Eastern Europe - well that's only the peers of Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus and Russia ofc.
Romania has more to show .. not only Dracula castle ... Bucharest (Romania capital city) should make it to the list ... very beautiful place with much to see , as natural reservation , museums , big parks , lakes and much more .. and to not forget the (Parliament palace) the second biggest administrative building in the world my opinion its that eastern Europe its a bless and everyone can afford it to visit !
I have never been in Romania, it would be nice to see more of this country. All i think of, when i hear Romania is prostitutes and people who want to steal my stuff... AND people who is begging money from EU
@@MegaVikooo then go to visit .. and you will learn the truth ... i know about romanians who do that kind of stuff , most of them are gipsies , a minority in Romania .. go there and you will be suprised
Greatings from Serbia. Romania is beautiful, nature villages, food. Sarmalak👍
Cheers
@@MegaVikooo because you are ignorant. Sounds like you don't have much cultural knowledge.
There is much to see in Eastern Europe! Those countries have a rich culture and history. My favorite places are Budapest, Belgrade, and Montenegro. Oh, I liked Bucharest too.
@@Just_another_Euro_dude I’ve traveled to most of these places, but sailing into the Bay of Kotor was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen
Europe the god s own place with beautiful churches , cathedrals , castles , stoned architecture ,cottages , tiled streets , railroads , natural and colourful landscape , mountains , blue lakes, canals within cities , small seas etc without pollution once I will visit this continent. The beauty of Europe looks countless .
3:35 The highest peak in Tatra Mountains is Gerlach (Sk: Gerlachovský štít).
❤️❤️🇸🇰🇸🇰
And Kriváň that they mention actually isn't even in High Tatras but in Low Tatras. It is, however, Slovak national peak mentioned throughout literature, unique for its characteristic shape. Kriváň from slovak adjective krivý = crooked, curved.
Right. And Tatra Mountain it's not only northern Slovakia but also southern Poland...
Lovely eastern europe simply magnificient
All of these places are just so beautiful...They all seem so atmospheric
Love that you took countries like Albania, Northmacedonia and Montenegro with you. Countries often overlooked by western tourists
Those countries are great because they are overlooked, they shouldn't be discovered by mass tourism.
This is a pleasure to see towns from my county, bue especially those ones, that I visited and admired personally, like Moscow, Petersburg, Kiev, Minsk and Budapest.
Nice video, but probably 25 it's not enough. Among the beautiful missing ones I would like to mention Odessa.
Odessa has like the hottest Women...
St. Petersburg is much nicer than Moscow. Also, Lviv, Gdansk, and Wroclaw should be on the list.
villanovakid84 St. Petersburg and Moscow are for different kind of people. St. Pete has a more San Franco vibe, while Moscow is more of a normal, big rich Russian city. Moscow has a budget 4 times larger than St Peter despite only being 2 times larger, so the building in Moscow are in better condition.
@Big blue whale and that s TRUE! I was there last summer...both moscow and St.Petersburgh...from architecture point of view, deffinitely St. Petersburgh is more beautiful, but Moscow e.g. has a lot of other unique attractions where to spend free time...- cosmonautics museum, ostankino tower and so on...
Gdansk, yes
But Petersburg is only from XVIII c.!!!
Hey, kid! And what about Veliky Novgorod, Pskov, Suzdal and Vyborg? Or are you a Russia phobe?)))
It to bad america doesnt have all these old buildings. Europe is such a beautiful place
just hope there wont be any wars over there anymore......visited krakow prague and budapest once and wish to visit there again......
Charleston and Savannah--parts that the yankees didn't destroy.
@@timwaagh Lots of them? Haha! Some of them are, but for sure not lot.
Clearly you've never been to the US. America has buildings which are hundreds of years old.
@@juliaj7939 Sadly ive never left. We don't have old architecture, buildings, and cities like all of Europe does

Hahahhaha
It does and it always will. Like Mediterranean. It is Germany, it is past Austro-Hungarian Empire. Prussia was name of baltic pagan tribe that Holy Teutonic Order (germans) absorbed. So, yes, it always will be, Eastern Europe also means socialist construction, overcrowded, orthodox churches, industrial cities and zones and that is here not the case, they do have a lot of them have a different story and history, not all, and I am not saying that some culture interaction does not overlap and exchange, but Prague is surley Central Europe.
It has been a dream of mine for 10 years to visit Eastern Europe. Definitely at the top of my travel list
Do you think that Moscow is beautiful just at summer time?
I tell you: Moscow is gorgeous in Christmas time also. Amazing lighting, gorgeous atmosphere, spectacular Christmas Trees.
I highly recommend you to visit in Moscow VDNkH, at summer time and at Christmas time. This place is breathtaking.
In the summer you will admire gorgeous architecture and fountains. In winter time VDNKh has the largest skating rink in Europe. You will enjoy this place.
I live in Frankfurt, Germany and just recently started to visit more of the eastern countries after so many visits to western. I visited Prague and loved it. But I just visited Budapest this past weekend and have to say that it's my new favorite European city. I think Budapest should have been #1 on this list but that's just my opinion as I know how people love Prague more. All are great places and I plan to take more trips to some of these places soon!
Well done! Greetings from Bay of Kotor, Montenegro!
Montenegro is so beautiful :)
I think that Lviv should be here.
I'm sorry, Lviv, Lvov oder Lemberg?)))

High Tatras are in Slovakia and Poland.
@Kvarta B tatras are shared by Poland and Slovakia. There is no discussion about that. As for sights the most beautiful lake and town of Zakopane is in the polish part.
80% of High Tatras also with the highest peak Gerlachovsky stit are in Slovakia /Krivan is not the highest peak/.... 20% in Poland
Martin Fratric wasn’t it 70% Slovakia and 30% poland. Also in Poland there are sights worth mentioning like rysy - second highest mountain in Tatars or morksie oko lake
@@Maczeta_Pompa Wikipedia says that area of Tatras is 786 km/2..... 610 km/2 belongs to Slovakia.... it means 78 percent belongs to Slovakia.... and of course I did not say that polish part of Tatras are bad.... there is a lot to see even if polish part is smaller...
@@Maczeta_Pompa Rysy is definitely not even close to being the 2nd highest peak in High Tatras, that's the Lomnický Štít. And the highest peak of the Rysy mountain is in Slovakia. Hope this info helped :3

I love Europe so much. It's contains the greatest countries on earth.
Lake Ohrid #14 , Macedonia this is St.Jovan Kaneo 😍 13:58 The best place in Europa! 🇲🇰
There are many, many other fantastic beautiful places that are missing in this video. It`s a shame Eastern Europe is so much underrated.
It's not underrated. :) Some people just don't know it. I wasn't in Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus. I've visited all other presented countries and 15 of 25 places, but I've seen other great places in these countries.
There is 7 of 25 places from former Yugoslavia ;)
Llubjana Slovenia is also very very nice. Same with Bratislava, Slovakia
You showed very little of Belgrade, basically you showed some old video of places which are now reconstructed.
The locals will argue that some of these places are in 'Central Europe' not Eastern Europe. I would have put Wroclaw in there somewhere but its a good selection.
Its eastern europe 😂 Since this is a video that divides East and west
Bratislava should be on this list too
Plitvice and Dubrovnik ❤️🇭🇷❤️
Bucharest, Ljubljana, Lviv, Carpathian and Odesa should be in the list as well.
And my recommendation: visit Chernobyl zone. It's unforgettable
Carpathian, no way. I was there at least 20 times, but they are nothing in comparison to Slovenian Alps (Triglav National Park). Lviv, also no (I lived there for some months so I love it, but I don't think it qualifies), I agree with Bucharest, Ljubljana and Odessa.
@@ssmp00 Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic and Ukraine are the countries that the carpathian mountains reach , you where there at least 20 times where? in all this countries and visited every part of them? As someone living in Bucharest saying ''no way'' to the Carpathians is like saying no way to everything in Romania ,as almost every region in romania is around the Carpathians .. and excluding all other countries

I like Eastern Europe because a lot of history anh old building.

Hi from Tallinn :) yes the old town is beautiful but if you have time I strongly recommend to visit the Viru Raba bog and Rummu karjäär especially in the summer.
Nice list! I'm lucky to have travelled a lot around eastern europe and know most of this places.
Some honorable mentions that could have easily been in the list are Sarajevo, Lviv, Odessa, Gdanks, Wroclaw, Bratislava and Kaunas
Warsaw very much damage? are you kidding 80% of the city was destroyed during WWII? It was destroyed not damage... Also, to be honest, I'm not sure if we are overlooked, if so why in my home city Kraków is overload with tourist across the whole world, and I'm sure people from Prague and Budapest will agree with me on that, most of those cities in this video are very popular tourist destination form many years, 14 million tourists visit Kraków last year for a city lower then 1 million in population is a lot. BTW the highest point in Tatry mountains in Gerlach. PS. Kraków is much closer to Slovakia only 100km then to Czechia, I literally see the highest point of Slovakia from my office window during nice weather.

Samael
You mean that the living conditions in some places in Romania 🇷🇴 like some of it’s “shady” suburbs have so much problems to the point of being considered too dangerous? If that were really the case (I am curious) you could tell me more about that for bringing more awareness to a very real problem because there is no point in hiding them to anyone especially to the people who already knew about it
@@alsuvarnadvipadanargentum1743 That's not the reality for the whole country. The real dangerous places in Romania is the southern part mainly Oltenia and some parts in southern Moldova, Transylvania and Dobrogea are perfectly safe.
Agree
@Samael I have not visited Romania so I can't speak on Romania specifically. I have been to Ukraine (my maternal grandmother was Ukrainian). I loved the cities big and small (Kyiv, Rivne, Dubno, Mukacheve, Lviv) and spent time in the suburbs and villages and loved it all. That said, there are places in Ukraine I wouldn't want to go, but my life is dedicated to serving in Ukraine and making a difference there.

I am now planning to visit Budapest, hopefully in June after vaccinated, as I know it is a city of World Heritage. I am a bit surprised that there many higher-ranked cities and places than Budapest even only in Eastern Europe. I further notice that all places in this Video are worth visiting from far-away Countries like Japan. They are beautiful and full of wonder for Asian travelers.
Mount Krivan isn't highest peak. It's Gerlachovský štít ( peak).
Anyway beautiful video

As a bulgarian I consider my self as southern European. If we were talking about Eastern Europe I could say that Greece should be in that list.
Well you are Southern European but obviously are also in the East.
Greece is definitely south, you east Hh have you seen a map buddy ?
Interestingly enough in 90% of cases the goto recommendation in Ukraine is usually Lviv.
@Admiral Firespammer because Lviv was built on the model of beautiful Polish architecture.
We've been to most of these places , all wonderful . The locals mostly say they live in Central Europe .
Don't forget the small country of Moldova and its capital of Chisinau! It has the best wine in all of Eastern Europe! The Orthodox Churches and Monasteries are fantastic!
ITs all nice but there are more places in those countries that are even better.
