I have already been to Lviv. Great City. The people are very guestfriendly, the architechture is beautiful, the cuisine is delicious and everyone can feel safe in the streets. I went there to get to know the country of my grandfather and enjoyed it so much that I could always go back.
Why would the east be the safest Europe? That would probably Scandinavia. Many places in the east are very white and not touristic, which makes it less pleasant for non-whites.
Both Plovdiv, Bulgaria (the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe) and Veliko Tarnovo (the third capital of Bulgaria) should have been on this list.
Sofia, Bulgaria is also a good place to visit, Bulgaria as a whole tends to be over looked, but they have a lot of history, there are beaches on the Black Sea, ski resorts in the mountains, and it’s overall a very picturesque and beautiful country.
I appreciate that you at least explained what you mean by "Eastern Europe", but please Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and in particular Czechia and Slovenia are definitely not "culturally Eastern Europe". They're geographically Central European, culturally and historically Western European (really few to no cultural differences between Austria and Czechia for example), but they were part of Eastern European political block in the 2nd half of 20th century. The world should just stop call us Eastern Europe, and not because we're snobs who don’t want to be called Eastern, but simply because it supports Russia's revisionist policy in the region
Perhaps ten or so years ago but now the politics of the region is dominated by the Russia-style nativism, rampant homophobia and a thorough loathe of the West, not to mention a definite backtrack on the democratic norms. Kinda hard to sell the "not Eastern" narrative under these circumstances, huh?

About nativism and curtailing democracy, again you're just talking about Poland and Hungary, and I must say that at least in the case of Poland, this is just a transitory period - PiS party is now incredibly unpopular and will almost certainly lose the next election. All this nonsense with LGBT-free zones, packing of the constitutional court and ignoring European institutions will end when Tusk returns as Prime Minister. I see little hope for Hungary, on the other hand all their opposition parties recently united regardless of political opinion in order to get Orbán out, so I'm not so sure about his PM for life status anymore
If any of you is wondering, the Hungarian cities of 'peaks and debris' are Pécs and Debrecen. Personally, I think Pécs is the most interesting Hungarian city besides Budapest, though Szeged is cool, too.

I went there a number of years ago, about 13 I think. My partner & I found there wasn’t enough organised trips for tourists. Not at all like Vienna or Budapest. The hotel we stayed in was lovely, I think it was called Marrol’s & was absolutely beautiful. Hopefully Bratislava has got its act together & it is better now!
Lovely place. So chilled and peaceful. I did a tour of the city, which has more of a large town feel to it, and got to chat with some locals too. Defo recommended.
My partner and I just went to Belgrade, Serbia. It was so affordable, easily walkable both with great food. You only need 3 nights total, but it is worth visit, but do avoid the Tesla Museum and instead focus on Free Walking Tours. Those were the highlight, we thought.
We also did an afternoon in Novi Sad, which is well worth the drive. Serbia was easy to drive as we rented a car. We highly recommend exploring more of Serbia as the prices are cheap, the food is amazing, and the people very nice.

In Gdansk second war world started, Fahrenheit was from Gdansk, Solidarity movement was created in Gdansk which lead to the fall of communism in 1989. Largest brick church in the world is in Gdansk and biggest castle in the world is about 40 min south of Gdansk in the city of Malbork. And there is much much more to see.

For any European traveler looking to save money and still have that same amazing European ambience and experience as you get in the big name Western European cities, these all sound like good choices. Lviv is a marvelous city we have visited twice and plan to return to again, however it is the 7th largest city in Ukraine, NOT the second largest city. Great list and thanks for the ideas.

It used to be referred to as "Brzydgoszcz" ("Uglyville") back in the day but it has revived since the transformation. I especially recommend canoeing down the Brda with friends, a great way to spend a warm Sunday.

Belgrade and Novi Sad are must visit in Serbia, but however, Serbia has much more to offer in nature, countryside and a lot of medieval monasteries.

So go and google it before you start posting any stupid comments as it clearly signals that you are a total zero in history.

For any European traveler looking to save money and still have that same amazing European ambience and experience as you get in the big name Western European cities, these all sound like good choices. Lviv is a marvelous city we have visited twice and plan to return to again, however it is the 7th largest city in Ukraine, NOT the second largest city. Great list and thanks for the ideas.

@@ThePussukka Czechia has had strong connections with todays Germany and Austria ever since the 9th century(Czech kings ruled the whole Holy Roman Empire for example), so literally the ONLY time Czechia had anything to do with the east was during those 40 years of Soviet occupation….so it’s just extremely unfair and disrespectful to call Czech Rep an eastern country…

@@ThePussukka no it is not true. Cultural belonging can be of course defined by many factors but the deciding one is the religious culture of the country. Countries with roman Catholic or protestant traditions like Poland Hungary and Czechia belongs to western circle. Countries with orthodox Church to Eastern one. That is very easy. This tradition created the country culture for at least 1000 years and you can't compare that with 50 years of communism, which those Countries have not chosen. It was an invasion and those countries have always fought with that. So your understanding based on soviet invasion after World War II is just stupid.
It is like you would say Tibet is a Chinese culture because it is overtaken by Chinese. That is really a poor logic.

It used to be referred to as "Brzydgoszcz" ("Uglyville") back in the day but it has revived since the transformation. I especially recommend canoeing down the Brda with friends, a great way to spend a warm Sunday.
