100%! the guy’s something else. have you checked out falling in reverse’s stuff? it’s PURE artistry-vocally, lyrically, instrumentally, visually and emotionally. personally, it’s the only band i consider good enough to stand right next to MCR at the top. ronnie radke is a musical genius, just like gerard. UGHHH, i love these guys.
@@sandrawohlden The FiR song "Coming Home" is one of a few that literally saved my life when I was in the darkest place of my life. As a father, I listened to that one a lot and felt it in the deepest places of me.
The Black Parade is a rock opera centering around the character of "The Patient". It is about his passage out of life and the memories he has of it. "The Patient" dies and death comes for him in the form of a parade. This is based on singer Gerard Way's notion of death appearing to a person in the form of their fondest memory, in this case seeing a marching band as a child.
Specifically, all of their albums are entire stories told through the band's performance. The songs all combine to tell an entire story. Gerard Way, the lead vocalist, is a performer, and he loves writing stories. Fun fact: The Umbrella Academy on Netflix is based on the comic series of the same name written by, yep, Gerard Way.
This whole album is phenomenal and is a concept album that surrounds the life of this cancer patient. Gerard is insane and an artist in every regard of the word, he puts his all into all he does artistically.
Highly recommend just reacting to the whole album, because it is a story, a true concept album, and the only way to really grasp is and feel all of it is to watch start to finish.
" an artist in every regard of the word" Very true - he is a graphic novelist and created the original behind the Netflix hit series "Umbrella Academy" amongst others. I also have the distinct pleasure of being given tickets for my 50th birthday to see them on tour this years in the UK. ROCK ON !!
"Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part I won't explain or say I'm sorry I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars Give a cheer for all the broken Listen here, because it's who we are." No joke, this has been my fucking mantra for years whenever I need to psych myself up. Such a great song.
I so wasn’t expecting a reaction to this omg idk why but tHIS LITERALLY MADE MY DAY. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS OF ALL TIME and got me through the hardest parts of life. We truly will CARRY ON. 😭
Its definitely the 'emo' Bohemian Rhapsody. You should check out their performance at Reading and Leeds fest 2011, Queen's Brian May joined them on stage to perform this very song! Absolutely iconic
Hard agree.. Gerard def has a special gift to reaching ears of his idols. Id kill for a bts on how that performance came together. On a similar note, Liza Minnelli, being another connection i dont think any of us expected with not just her bit in Mama, but also confessing her adoration for MCR. I’d actually include Mama as another pretty paralleled new Bohemian Rhapsody terms of same insane instrumental switches, like 6 totally diff sounds in one tragic song.. and the emphasis on a haunting confessional to a “mama” in both .. i’ve always had a special spot for that song in my heart, and i never think it received enough recognition beyond the MCR fanbase. Gerard Way embodies artistry in all levels, the music, epic anthems/concept albums, his actual performance artistry in videos, the umbrella academy, his art school background always making a peep through his aesthetics in funny bts clips where he’ll school interviewers on his makeup, and just a naturally, but awkwardly very funny guy. He’s just a nugget of what i think makes a pure “Artist”. ❤️
This concept album was (is) sooooo iconic. MCR are known for their theatrical and energetic performances especially during the black parade era. This song is sooo amazing - the imagery, the lyrics, the melodies. Theres been breakdowns of the song and the concepts it explores which you should check out but i dont think any vid have been made of the music video itself
yes! as much as it may be a clichee by this point: this song is heads and shoulders above everything ever done in this "emo" genre. The structure of the song is phenomenal and his singing has so much more power than all the others. I do actually think the Bohemain Rhapsody shoutout does make sense. In a way this is for Emo-punk what Bohemian Rhapsody is for Stadium-rock (exchange the terms as you want) I must say, I do still think you seem to be enjoying all the rock songs a lot more than the pop songs as of late. Might be conjecture, but for what it's worth...keep it up.
I've always said that MCR is like a moders day Queen. People bash me for it, but I feel that Freddie would have loved Gerard and his creativity and theatrical sense of drama & storytelling.
I literally had chills from this reaction..! Gerard is soooo theatrical and dramatic, and I LOVE HIM FOR IT. I'm so glad you're so into this! I'm a huge fan of MCR (especially the Black Parade album), and I'm always happy when people find it & enjoy it as much as I do. Edit: I just noticed you compared them to Queen, and I screamed :D I've always said that they're like modern day Queen - I guess it's the big choruses & unapologetic attitude. Once again, an excellent reaction. Keep 'em coming; I'm such a fan of yours! :)
This song, this album, this band is a fucking masterpiece. Gerard is a fucking genius and there's a reason that this is the most well-known 'emo' song in existence.
My Chemical Romance was my teenage band and will always be in the top bands for me. I love all of their albums and think, like you said, their intensity is noticeable, and I think is a huge reason why so many feel so much when listening to them. Thanks for listening and sharing your thoughts. It's fun to see others enjoying them, but even if you didn't somehow... It's cool to see people listening to them anyway.
I loved your reaction to such an iconic song! I've been a fan of MCR since I was 14 and the whole Black Parade album is amazing. Never thought to compare the song with Bohemian Rhapsody but you're totally right, it does have the same feel! Fun fact about the whole concept album is that the lead singer Gerard thought of the whole Black Parade world and the outfits the guys are wearing were also his design! (He's also the author of Umbrella Academy comic book which was made into a Netflix series not long ago so you might have heard about it)
It's interesting that you comment about the parallels with Bohemian Rhapsody. I wonder what Freddie Mercury would have made of this song. I have a feeling that he would have approved. Also I love the vibes of the various genres in the video, punk, emo, goth, and the elements of steampunk. The video is a masterpiece.
I got into MCR when I started high school, which was 2011. So I was a bit late to the party considering they broke up 2 years later. But their music made me feel things. They still do. Musically, vocally, story wise, artistically, they are just amazing. And to think I got made fun of for enjoying utter talent is still mind blowing to me. This song, this album is PHENOMENAL. It was the first album I ever heard by them and it forever holds a place in my heart.
It gives you Queen vibes? They performed this with Brian May once. It was so epic. You should look it up, honestly I remember having a complete meltdown when that happened 😂
The joy I got from watching you discover and love this song made my entire week! I also have thought it had a bit of a Bohemian Rhapsody vibe for the same reasons you said.
This song makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end no matter how many times i listen to it, an absolute classic from one of the best bands ever,
damn, I remember the first time I chose to listen to this song, I was reluctant to because I was not into the emo stuff, but the song blew my mind and I couldn't stop playing it
This is one of those bands I liked since their inception. Seeing they have become some kind of legendary 20 years later makes me kind of happy I enojyed them form 0
i wish they had a music video for every single song in this album. this is one of my favorite albums of all time, by the way. it’s crazy good artistry, my god. #obsessed
The guitar harmonics are so on point in this song that it's insane. Also, it does remind me of a punk version of Bohemian Rhapsody. I've seen people call this song "Queen Day" and I think that's a great description.
OMG YES FINALLY ! 🔥 and like other commebts here, we highly recommend you listen to ALL the tracks in the Black Parade album. 10/10 no miss, they really got no bad songs in the album and the lyrics are all so well-written and cohesive to the whole concept. 🖤
I absolutely loved seeing your reaction to this song, it really is a masterpiece! MCR have a place in my heart because my son loved them, I lost him in 2009 when he was tragically killed, he was only 16. Some days I can’t listen to them, others I blast this song and dance around my kitchen! The whole Black Parade album is amazing! 🖤 xx
Hopefully you're looking to add more suggestions to your 'My Chemical Romance reaction' arsenal, so if it's not already on that spreadsheet of yours please endeavour to add "I Don't Love You" along with the rest! Great song, with a music video too, and more raw emotion. Perfect combo!
Omg I was just getting tickets to the When We Were Young festival cuz all the iconic "emo" bands of my childhood are gonna be there, including MCR! This just got me even more pumped to gooo 😍😍😍
You should do the whole album in order tbh, it’s a whole experience. If you don’t, I recommend you at least listen to Mama, definitely the best track imo. Helena is also a classic, though it’s from the previous album.
No joke, one of my top 25 songs of all time and I'm 50+ so I've heard a lot of sh*t simply brilliant. There are maybe a dozen songs that make me want to run through a brick wall and this is one of them
I remember I 1st heard this song at work. I got into this band in 2005. We had this crappy little radio and when dude said they were about to play the new MCR single I was excited. On 1st listen I loved and felt was something special. I couldn’t have know it was gonna be THIS big. I got the album the day it dropped and fell in love with most of the songs. It’s fun watching people discover this still.
When I first heard this, I thought punk bohemian rhapsody. It’s a masterpiece that fans of any genre can appreciate. Killer voice. Killer drums. From lyrics to sound to video, it’s so beautifully layered and complex
I've listened to this song since it came out and every time I feel I've gotten sick of the song, that last chorus just comes in and makes it feel like the first time all over again.
I love this album, MCR literally was the song of my teen years. In regards with the meaning of the song. the album is actually one big story where it tells a story of a cancer patient and a grim reaper. Notice that there are 2 entirely tone to the songs of the music that's because there are two perspectives in conflict of one another. The cancer patient first learns his sickness (the end) then the grim reaper introduces himself to the guy mocking him (dead!), we saw the patient's background that he wasn't such a good teenager before he got cancer (teenagers), the grim reaper answers this by giving the boy a bit of glimpse of his background before he died (sharpest lives). Eventually the sick young man who was in denial before started to confront the reality of his death (cancer), the grim reaper answers this by mocking the young man, that because he was evil, he will burn in hell (house of wolves). remember that in the first song, we learned that the young man had 2 weeks left in his life, (i don't love you) tells us that because of his illness his possibly girlfriend left him to die alone. the grim reaper sheds up another light upon the reality of his existence, that he is somehow tied to the young dying man but because he's a ghost, he can't hurt him , he even mentions about girl in the song (this is how I disappear). As his life fades away, instead of constant regret and fear, the young man took an unexpected turn and began to accept his death (disenchanted). because of the young man's response the grim reaper opens up his life (mama) and hints to us that possibly he died in a war as a soldier. (Sleep) is the young man finally embracing and accepting his inevitable death. Moments before his death, we finally see the grim reaper and the cancer patient on the same side, as the grim reaper tells the cancer patient keep fighting and keep holding on (famous last words). Finally, as ironic as the song title is.. welcome to the black parade is the conclusion where cancer patient dies, and the grim reaper emotionally welcomes him to join the black parade. when we take the story in this context will make the lyrics have a lot of sense. truly a masterpiece of an album
Omg,do you know how happy I am now, I loved your reaction. Even though I know you know them I'm happy you saw the one that made common man love them also.
I didn't see anyone else mention this, but...if you notice the bass guitarist is the only one wearing a medal on his chest. This is a call back to a mv for the song Ghost of You from the previous album, where they were all soldiers fighting in (I assume) ww2, and he was killed on the battlefield. With that in mind the parade must be those already dead come to meet the newly departed. I've done some pretty extensive searching to try and match up the medal (a Maltese cross with a dove in the centre kinda diving downward lol), it doesn't appear to be an actual medal from ww2 though, which I'm pleased about, because that could probably be seen as disrespectful (except if it had been a family member's). So, the best guess I have for identification from the clearest pic of it I have, is one that is the badge of the order of Saint-Esprit (aka the order of the holy spirit). Idk if there was a reason they picked that particular medal, or if there was any thought/reasoning went into it at all, other than it looked the part without risking offending someone. I might be wrong though and there may be a personal connection, you never know with these things, and I know nothing about the Way family history. I would have hoped whoever picked it up to use though at least looked it up to know more about it. A further point of interest is that he's wearing it on his right jacket brest, which is traditionally where people wear the medals of their lost loved one (military wear them on the left), which could be another nod of respect with regards of not claiming a military honour...but I also doubt if that much thought went into it & suspect it was more likely that someone didn’t know which side or that it worked better for him on that side so it didn't get caught by or under the guitar strap. For anyone interested in what the Order of the Holy Spirit is: One source described it as French hospital order from the early 19th century, responsible for the care of the sick and injured (kinda like, St John's ambulance in the UK, their insignia is the Maltese cross but with nothing else in or around it, idk if they have St. John's in the US etc. in the US too). Idk if this is correct as it was less fleshed out than the other source below. The other source says, they are a French Order of Chivalry created by Henry III of France in the 16th century (as part of commemorating his becoming king of Poland, as well as France, it seems) after he realised the existing Order of St Michael had swelled in numbers and how diluted it had become with regards the standing (in otherwords he thought there was too many people he thought of as too common, but who had earned membership through loyalty in battle) of the members, and he wanted an order that was senior to that which was to be restricted for a small number of powerful princes and nobiles, although that didn't last either & increased dramatically. It was abolished during the French Revolution, but was briefly revived in 1830 before being permanently abolished. It's now a dynastic order under the House of France, people are still nominated for it, and and it is still recognised by the International Commission on Orders of Chivalry. Anyway, whether they knew itxs history or not, it was an interesting choice.
Loved that you loved it! ♥️ I know it's kinda cringe, but this song truly is an anthem for so many people... Some other big big standouts are Helena (from their previous record), and Mama and Sleep (both from The back Parade)
I know an easter egg from the whole black parade era. Mikey (the bass player) is the only band member to wear a military medal on his uniform. Its a posthumous medal because he was the only one of the band to die in the music video for Ghost of You, which is from their previous album. Insane creative detail like that is why i love this band so much :)
Wow, I'm early! Loved your reaction to this masterpiece. There are so many their songs I love, but I would be so happy if one day you'll react to Disenchanted
I'm sure you've heard "Adam's Song" by Blink, but if not I think i'd enjoy your reaction. You seemingly have a genuine/energized reaction and that's rare in this space
I suggest you listen to the B- Side album. It's an album of songs that were gonna be in the Black Parade album but they ended up being extras. My personal favorite is Heaven Help Us. :)
I think it's funerals in New Orleans when everybody sad on the way to the Grave when they come back there's a lot of happy music because they're celebrating the person's life. You might get Jazz you may get faster music but it's all about the celebration. This is all in one funeral..
I've put this on the spreadsheet but I doubt people will find it there, but you should definitely react to LP! (and by that I mean the artis LP, not Liam Payne.) I just know you would love that artist. Such a powerhouse, and not mainstream pop rock.
You should listen to more of the album! Also, if you do, you should check out The End (1st Song of TBP) and Dead! (2nd Song of TBP) in the same video; despite being drastically different they are 2 parts of the same song.
I wonder what your music taste is before these reactions? I think its very cool you’re not radio-washed if yk what i mean, but what do you listen to in your own free time? So many popular songs you’ve never heard lmao
The world wasn't prepared for this album when it came out. It just gets better as the time goes by. Gerard is truly a modern artistic genius.
Absolutly.....brings me tears...and i'm 64!!!!!
100%! the guy’s something else.

Best band ever!! 🖤🔥🖤 I'm 40 years old and introduced them to my daughter. We share them together. It's our bonding band.
I'm 42 and my 16yr old daughter and I do to. We are going to their concert next year together.
If I'm not wrong, Gerard Way at some point did mention how this song was partly inspired by Bohemian Rhapsody.
Also the Beatles. Their uniform here have a vibes of Sgt. Pepper

Even though I know you know them I'm happy you saw the one that made common man love them also.
his intensity is insane, can you imagine being Gerards mom when he was younger hahah
My reaction with all MCR songs is literally this
This is one of the best songs of all time imo.
For anyone interested in what the Order of the Holy Spirit is:
One source described it as French hospital order from the early 19th century, responsible for the care of the sick and injured (kinda like, St John's ambulance in the UK, their insignia is the Maltese cross but with nothing else in or around it, idk if they have St.
Animal I Have Become by Three Days Grace is the emo rock anthem actually.
He went in the hole! He's gonna be in a hell of a ride
The MCR days were the best, still love em, I was once the teenager that scared the fuck out of em in 2006
Both bohemian rhapsody and this have almost movements like a classical piece does. It's awesome that you picked that up.
Check out Ghost of You by MCR
There is a making of "welcome to the Black Parade" video on RUclips and an outtakes one too.
When I was young, my dad would play this all the time and I would get so scared of it.. But now.. OMG they are truly legends
When you were a young boy? Your father….would play this all the time?
@@cullenkarra9219 omg 😭
The whole album: Woww
Sooo happy you did this 💛
The algorithm knows exactly what I want
Definitely need to react to “Helena” and “I’m not okay (i promise)”
Most artists just sing their songs, the stand out artists, perform their songs and you just know when you have watched a performance.
Yess! Do anything else MCR!🥰❤ I'm going to be covering helena live soon 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Wow, I'm early!
Loved your reaction to this masterpiece.
There are so many their songs I love, but I would be so happy if one day you'll react to Disenchanted
Sleep is a great song of theirs and Ghost of you is another amazing song and video
🖤 MCR!!! Thanks!!!
Congratulations 🎉 Danny 🥳 49K.... What...lol Well deserved 😉
I'm sure you've heard "Adam's Song" by Blink, but if not I think i'd enjoy your reaction. You seemingly have a genuine/energized reaction and that's rare in this space
You should check their live performance in Reading Festival 2011.
i recommend the ghost of you
it's really an amazing song!
I was 30 seconds to falling asleep and now im 30 seconds to mars
I suggest you listen to the B- Side album. It's an album of songs that were gonna be in the Black Parade album but they ended up being extras. My personal favorite is Heaven Help Us. :)
They are Legend.
They have shown a video behind the scene for this song, in case you wonder.
Brian May actually performed this song with MCR
Famous Last Words - MCR is super good please react to that one 👏🏻👏🏻
I think it's funerals in New Orleans when everybody sad on the way to the Grave when they come back there's a lot of happy music because they're celebrating the person's life. You might get Jazz you may get faster music but it's all about the celebration. This is all in one funeral..
I've put this on the spreadsheet but I doubt people will find it there, but you should definitely react to LP! (and by that I mean the artis LP, not Liam Payne.) I just know you would love that artist. Such a powerhouse, and not mainstream pop rock.
It’s funny you said Bohemian Rhapsody cause I’ve always referred this song as their Bohemian Rhapsody. It’s so epic.
You should listen to more of the album! Also, if you do, you should check out The End (1st Song of TBP) and Dead! (2nd Song of TBP) in the same video; despite being drastically different they are 2 parts of the same song.
"Helena" pleaseeeeeee
I wonder what your music taste is before these reactions? I think its very cool you’re not radio-washed if yk what i mean, but what do you listen to in your own free time? So many popular songs you’ve never heard lmao
Prediction, your gonna love it.
The sheet doesn't seem to be working for me, but I hope The Ghost of You gets added to it.
