  • A did this review awhile ago but I thought I would share here again. The ESEE 6 is a great all purpose survival and bushcraft knife. IMHO one of the best. Very hard to beat!

I finally got my very first Esse 6 today. I absolutely love this knife but I never was able to afford this knife because everything here in Canada is ridiculously expensive. I love this knife just the way it is. From the stock sheath to the blocky handles which I absolutely love. This is my milestone knife, and a family heirloom to be passed down because I don't beat on my knives, I take really good care of them. Even my Ka-Bar 1211 still looks new because I always clean and hone the blade after each use. I might get the Esse pouch to put on the Esse 6 sheath but I love the knife just the way it is. I am so friggin happy right know, and I always watch videos on knives I have once I get them. Thanks for the review.

The ESSE 6 is by far my favorite big knife. I have beat on it and it comes back for more. It is excellent. The Knife Connection scales make it perfect. I love ESEE knives.

    Hello, Mr. Adams (hope I got your name right);
I'm not fond of expensive gear.
I think it's better to learn how to 'make do' w/ almost any equipment or gear.
Since I was born poor (that hasn't changed in 67 years) I've always tried to use what I have.
Oct. 30 I ordered a BPS Adventurer knife.
I have used it just a bit since I got it but it's a great knife.
When I grew up most people didn't want any 'stainless' knife, they had too many issues.
Today stainless is a great knife steel but it usually costs more than high carbon knife steels.
The BPS is very sharp, & I like to 'sword sharpen' so now it is extremely sharp.
It is sharp enough for food prep, if needed.
    I paid $39.99+tax for it.
    Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

My ESEE 6 has the OD green blade and came with black/OD, G-10, 3D contoured scales. It came with a decent kydex sheath, not as nice as yours, too. I paid about $135 for it six months ago. I would be willing to put these scales up against any of the others out there as far as comfort and quality goes. Thanks for sharing.

The ESEE 6 and Izula II were my first ESEE knives. Can't go wrong with the 6. 👍

Do you prefer this 6 or the 6HM version? I know you said you preferred the 6HM to the regular 6 but I think that was before you tried these TKC handles on it. Thanks.

    Interesting.
First observation is that the very thin blade (5/32ths, I think) made really heavy weather of splitting a relatively thin log. The feathersticking looked pretty good, but that may be the skill of the person.
I've often done a comparison between the ESEE 6 and the Cold Steel SRK, as they are somewhat similar, but the SRK is a tad smaller and lighter. For me the ESEE 6 seems a little out of place - it's not a medium size knife (like the SRK), but neither is it really a Large knife, as its blade is rather thin and it's only 6 1/2" long. The weight distribution is also strange as at 12 ounces most of the weight seems to reside in the handle, not the blade, so its use as a chopper is penalised.
So, as much as I'd like the ESEE 6 to perform like a large knife, its DNA makes it perform like a smaller knife, despite its length. I'm pretty sure it makes for a very good slicer and cutter with that thin, full flat ground blade, so that is a plus for the 6! I guess a would-be buyer would have to have a really good understanding of what they want from such a knife before making their purchase.
It's a pity we did not see the 6 doing other camp tasks. That would have perhaps given a better understanding of what it is really good at.

      Esee 6 thin? Yikes

@@ThePreparedWanderer Yep. For a thick blade check out the Cold Steel Trail Master, which is 5/16ths! And it is only about 2 1/2" longer and 5 ounces heavier than the ESEE 6! With that thickness and a full convex grind my TM splits like a dream. It was painful to watch that ESEE 6 struggling like that. [However, I don't advocate batoning large logs, as I believe it is better to use wedges and avoid undue risk to one's blade. Up to 3" or so is fine for my TM but larger than that I'd use wedges, if I had to split wood. When camping in the woods one usually has no need to split large logs. ]

Esee is decent, mainly the Walmart of the fixed blade world…under $200 is decent but can think of many fixed blades that are better quality than esee…just sayin…

That’s the ridiculous. Esee has one of the best heat treats out there. I’ve seen bark rivers chip on pine.
