Just lost my father of 82. Spend time with your elders and the old and lonely. As he said sometimes just say "hello" John Prine. Every single song is a story about something real honest thought provoking. you may be uncomfortable listening to some as you explore his catalogue but all is beautiful Ina bittersweet way.if you need to "come up for air". Try in spite of ourselves.. duet. Like your reaction and comments. Keep digging
“Hello In There” was one of the first three songs Prine sang publicly when he impulsively got up from his seat in the audience during an open mic night at a club not far from where he was raised in Chicago and performed three songs he had personally written. The other two were “Sam Stone” and “Paradise” The songs were so incredibly well-received that not only did the club owner offer him a regular job on the spot, Prine continued to sing all three in his concert sets for the rest of his fifty year career, which ended with his death about a year ago in 2020. By the way, Prine’s best friend Steve Goodman was a little more established as a songwriter and personally knew Kris Kristofferson and the two would get together when Kristofferson was in Chicago performing. Soon KK was back in Chicago and late one night after Kristofferson had finished performing, Goodman insisted that he go with him to the club where Prine was singing and watch his friend perform. Kristofferson was blown away after listening to him perform his set, highlighted by those three songs above, and when Prine had finished, Kristofferson asked him to sing everything one more time. Not long after, Kristofferson took both Prine and Goodman to New York City and introduced them around and arranged for auditions. As a result of Kristofferson’s industry contacts and their successful auditions, Prine and Goodman were able to fly home to Chicago together with signed recording contracts. Lest I forget, awesome reaction video sir. I hope to return soon for more! 🧨
Wow Teez, this is unbelievable, your reacting to my favorite artist ever, Iv'e been listening to him for over 50 years and their is no other songwriter like him, Your one of only a few reactors to react to him. He has a catalogue of great songs that are amazing. For fun you should react to "In Spite of Ourselves". He is regarded by so many other artists as a genius which i totally agree with.
I was also going to recommend "In Spite Of Ourselves" :-)... my favorite version is the one from this same Session at West 54th performance (ruclips.net/video/P8tTwXv4glY/видео.html). Iris DeMent can sing to me any day!
Prime Prine. Had the album, then 8 track, cassette, cd, now on my iPad. The soundtrack of my life. I lived with with a heroin addict in the 70’s and he would play “Sam Stone” on his guitar and I would sing with him. He never made it out but I did. ✌️
He died last year from complications with covid after surviving 2 bouts of cancer. The throat cancer changed his voice but still came out with a great album before he passed.
We just lost John Prine to Covid; so sad. This is such a sad song. He was an amazing and prolific songwriter. One of my favorites is "Illegal Smile." Not sure, but I think that's just a stand-up bass played with a bow.
John Prine (RIP) is a songwriting genius. Some of the greatest songs ever. He's got some sad ones like this one and some fun ones, but all great ones. Some song suggestions from John would be Sam Stone, Souvenirs, The Great Compromise, Angel From Montgomery, Frying Pan, Take the Star Out of the Window, Everybody, Fish and Whistle to name a few... so many great songs!
A legend! So highly respected and loved by musicians around the world. RIP. Stupid COVID. 😠 His songs are beautiful.... Try "Angel from Montgomery". or "Sam Stone"...
John Prine is your favorite songwriter's favorite songwriter. Roger Waters from Pink Floyd performed this song live, there's a great video of that. In 2019 John was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame, and a whole bunch of famous musicians did videos about which John Prine song they liked the most. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) said that his favorite is 'Far From Me,' which was also John's favorite out of everything he wrote. It's my favorite, too.
Great reaction! Thanks for checking it out. He was one of the best songwriters in the world in my opinion. That song was from his first album, he wrote it when he was in his twenties, first record came out in 1971. He was awesome .
John was in his early 20’s when he wrote this song. I believe he was still a letter carrier then. He was so insightful. I saw him in Chicago bars over 50 years ago.
One of the all time great song writers! This guy had a slew of physical trials he was dealt with in this life. He seemed to be a true asset to Gods creation. A catalog that if neglected a person would certainly miss out.
He got the name Rudy because it was the name of his neighbors dog and she was always calling it. Rudy who he worked together with in the factory wirh in the song
try this John Prine video this is when he is older after he had cancer, it made his voice more gruff but I loved all his music I can't even think about this song without getting watery eyes(might just be my experiences though)(582) John Prine - Summer's End Official Video - RUclips
Not a cello. That is an acoustic stand up bass. Sometimes called a bass viol. Can be either plucked or bowed as it was here. Cello is smaller and the player sits behind it to play. Check out all of the selections from Sessions at West 54th. All are classic and that is a really good video. Good quality sound and picture. For some lighter stuff check out "In Spite of Ourselves". Hilarious.
Here ya go, two more John Prine (originally from Chicago area) from the live "Sessions" "Lake Marie" (said to be Bob Dylan's favorite Prine song): ruclips.net/video/Mkz8TnVQSOQ/видео.html "In Spite of Ourselves," with Iris DeMent: ruclips.net/video/P8tTwXv4glY/видео.html Originally a DVD, all the songs from it are on youtube. Search on "Sessions at West 54th". Doubt there's any threat of them being blocked. Watch all of them, FULL SCREEN, and note how good his lead guitarist. His most famous song is "Angel from Montgomery," "owned" by Bonnie Raitt. John Prine is the first famous person I heard of dying of COVID. Many of his LPs are on youtube, but all can be bought from his website.
One of the best from the best. I cry every time I listen to this song, so I was watching your face very closely for small expressions, and was frustrated that the huge microphone hid your mouth most of the time. Not sure if you always use that one, but if you do, maybe consider getting a much smaller mic - a reaction video is better when you can see all of the reactions - your face says more than your words.
You won’t regret these two: Billy Ocean "Get Outta My Dreams, Get into My Car" Seals “Crazy”.....BTW, make sure it’s the ‘young’ version of Seals or you’ll be wasting your time...Enjoy! 👍👍
Of all the great songs John Prine has it's almost always this song or Sam Stone being reacted to, the 2 songs I always skip when listening to this album.
Here's an idea. Handle your channel like a pro and work out your technical problems before you record. That way we don't have to listen to you talk all over the song while you worry about issues you should have solved before recording. How am I supposed to believe you are paying any attention to the song when you are talking and playing with your video feed? If you handled your channel like you cared about what you put out to the public you wouldn't be working this stuff out while the music you are reacting to is playing. One day you will figure out the difference between channels that have over a million subs and channels that have 28k is professionalism. You have one job. Reacting to music. If you aren't ready to do that then don't hit record.
Great song from his first album, and so young when he wrote it. Such an "old soul" from the get-go. RIP John, we still love you! ❤
This song makes me bawl every single time I hear it, but I can’t stop listening. So glad to see another generation giving John Prine a chance.
Me too.
one of the greatest songwriters/storytellers/voices of all time.

Legend. Miss him every day!
An absolutely wonderful song! Thank you for your open-mindedness, truly refreshing and most definitely appreciated.
Music of the soul. TO our souls.
hard to believe he wrote this in his 20's
I think this was his Post Office years, when he was a mail carrier... walking up to door after door... some screens open. Hello in there... hello...
@@BuffaloC305 Angel from Montgomery at a bout 27? Genius!

Love that song. Great reaction. Rest in peace, John.
a true american jem he will be so very missed my brother introduced me to him back in 1975 and i have allways admired hi music
A lot of artists mean something to their fans. John Prine meant something to everybody because that's who he wrote about.

A legend! So highly respected and loved by musicians around the world. RIP. Stupid COVID. 😠 His songs are beautiful.... Try "Angel from Montgomery". or "Sam Stone"...
that's a bass fiddle a cello is smaller and they usually sit to play.

Love John Prine (rhymes with sign). Glad you appreciate his hearft-felt sentiments.
Major props to you reviewing him. Storyteller!
Only just discovered this artist! His last song I remember everything is very poignant ! 💓
One of the most amazing song writers. We lost John way too soon
Now that I'm retired, this song really gets to me.
Me, too, in two ways: Retired myself after fun career, and as caregiver to my mom, who can't now remember her significant achievements.❤🩹
A tearjerker… love John Prine

An American Treasure … John Prine !!
I saw him live he was amazing ❤
John Prine was amazing. Unfortunately we lost him recently to Covid. Lots of good stuff in his very large catalog.
He was a mailman in Chicago, wrote these lyrics
While on his route
Uh a hard man to let go of....I was born listening to Prine. 💔🦋💔🖤💔🦋
John Prine's catalog will keep you busy for a looong time!
Taken from us via corona 2020 :-(
Thank you utube for allowing this to play. Prine the best songwriter ever. Loss to mankind.

R.I.P. 💔
Really hope you react to more of his.
In spite of ourselves my my favorite of his
John Prine existed to make us all feel bad, for not giving enough love to each other. He wasn't wrong...but damn it hurts.
🙏 thanks
Great reaction friend. Subscribed.
He got the name Rudy because it was the name of his neighbors dog and she was always calling it. Rudy who he worked together with in the factory wirh in the song
Another great singer songwriter that had a cello in his band was Harry Chapin. It gives a unique feeling to a song.
John Optimus Prine!! RIP
For a similar sentiment in a song listen to Prine’s good friend Steve Goodman’s The Dutchman. Steve and John are both gone now and terribly missed.
Thanks for giving your ear to hear. Listen to his LP Sweet Revenge, You will not regret your time.
i think he was 24 when he wrote thats. lots of great songs. many funny songs

You have to do Sam Stone!!!
If you liked this one I think you'll like his song Sam Stone too.
