My son and I have a959b's and 124019's. Cool cars to mess with. His 124019 was his first rc purchase. I love that he could afford a quality car of his own. He is now learning to care for and maintain it. As you stated, at the moment I can find more parts for them than any of my other cars. Mine has not broken yet, and it's been ran off the road at over 70mph..... 3-4 times.
I have an A959 that I've fully gutted and made brushless. It is a great car out of the box, and the sky is the limit on them. Plus, there are stadium truck and monster truck variants, the A969, and the A979 respectively. Other than wheels, tires, and bodies, they are the same platform.
Awesome review i don't know if you've seen them but I have a hosim brushless 2845 and I love it. I'm gonna put a 3s system in it. Keep these sweet videos coming.
The 959/979 etc...series was sold under different brands as well I bought a 979 monster truck for $40 on eBay brand new branded as a JJRC. Same exact vehicle though. I imagine more brands were made as well
I bought a 124019 as my first RC and I bought an Arrma Granite Mega 4x4 for my son. Both have broke multiple times since Christmas, though the Arrma’s breakdowns have been failures in the electronics (servo stripping and motor burning out) whereas the WLToys has broken body and suspension parts from jumps/crashes. The major difference is that Horizon Hobby has provided free replacements for anything that has broken and even sent me a free upgraded metal gear servo. With the WLToys car it’s just a money pit and I’m usually waiting 2 weeks - 1 month for parts from China. Lesson learned is that I’ll pay more for bigger domestic brands with good part support and customer service going forward. I’ve easily spent as much on my WLToys car as I would have on an entry level Traxxas or Arrma. On top of that, my son’s Arrma is so darn easy to work on and upgrade. I feel like every time o have to take my WLToys apart, a screw strips or I run into some other unforeseen issue. That’s my take as someone very new to the hobby. I suspect that having more experience may chance my point of view somewhat. Next up I’m eyeing an Arrma Typhon, Senton, or Big Rock 3S though 🙂
Arrma is one of the BEST as far as parts support. They're second only to Traxxas. I have name brand trucks that no one can get parts for. It's frustrating. Although I did have to wait 3 weeks for a part from Arrma to fix a truck that was broken out of the box. Oh well. Parts support for these is getting better all the time. 2 years ago it was dang near impossible to get stuff for them, and now they're showing up all over.

I’ll also add that both of the vehicles that we got are very fun for very different reasons. My son and I are definitely hooked on the hobby. Great video enjoyed it thoroughly. I think WLtoys would be wise to make a better separation between their XK innovations and their other lines. A bit higher quality and consistency in their Quality Control could really do well for them. Thanks for sharing
Redcat did that back in the day with their, "team redcat" line, but clearly it wasn't working for them because they stopped. I think it would be a good idea, too but who knows? They definitely have some turds in their lineup.

That 12th scale Truckee one you're talking about actually has a different suspension setup in the rear compared to the other two and the other 12 scale one.
I'm a bit weary about the durability of the 1/10th scale. It appears to be the same quality parts as the 1/14th scale but, in a larger heavier RC. I could be wrong, I'm just sceptical.
I'm surprised kyosho hasn't sued WL toy for allowing their bodies to fit on their car no they were just bought out I hope they still continue what they've been doing and still continue to make their vintage stuff.

They certainly do seem to be making a name for themselves. I think people see "toys" in the name and don't feel it's synonymous with quality hobby grade vehicles. When the 104001 comes out, I might pick that up... Haven't decided yet. Would like to see some reviews on it.
The $159 bandit doesn't come with a battery or charger, it's only 2wd and it's slower. My bandit definitely doesn't have a steel transmission. It has a steel pinion, but plastic all the way to the wheels.

Bandit is much more robust and larger so it might be a tad slower but if you run it on 9.6v ($20 on eBay) you can get 35mph with just a larger pinion.

I don't think you can call it an ultimate budget RC comparison when you're just discussing one brand. Some of us have been burned by WLToys and have no interest in the brand. That's not very ultimate, and it's hardly a comparison when (to me) you're comparing a dried-up white ghost dog turd to a fresh turd to a turd that has nuts in it to a turd that was left out in the rain.

You're implying that if you buy something from a LHS, you'll be able to get parts for it. I currently have 2 kyoshos, an HPI and a team associated that no one can get parts for while I've never had an issue finding parts for any of these WLToys models. Also, I get a message every week from someone wanting me to review something for them and I turn them down. I'm always 100% honest with my audience. If something sucks, I say it sucks. Anyone- even YOU could be an affiliate. You can say the product is the biggest piece of junk in the world and still make commission from it. I wish I was an affiliate for all kinds of things that people buy that I personally don't like. I get that you don't like these brands, but the sad truth is that you're outnumbered. So many people are into these things, and for good reason. They're bringing people into the hobby and offering some good headlines at fair prices. Look at my videos.... The 144001 gets a quarter of a million views while the Arrma Outcast 8S gets 1000. The cheapest redcats get over half a million views while the Traxxas UDR gets 4000. At some point I have to acknowledge that these are the videos that a huge portion of my audience wants to watch.

Worth noting about the A959 is that there are a lot of parts on Thingiverse and elsewhere to print parts. Shock caps, strut towers, etc.
