  • Masterclass with Professor Wolfram Christ in which they work on the Gigue of the Suite no. 1 BWV 1007 by Johann Sebastian Bach, in a transcription for viola. This masterclass took place at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, Madrid 2006.
    Student: António Pereira
Venue: Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid (Spain) 23/03/2006
    J. S. Bach: Suite for cello solo no. 1 in G major BWV 1007 (transcription for viola) - VI. Gigue
    Abstract:
Professor Christ comments that the tempo of the Gigue is correct. The student should play using the colours of the whole orchestra, with a more festive character. The duration of the figures should be complete, without rushing up. The movement of the body is necessary in this kind of music, so the student should think more about freedom and the audience. Upbeats can be more remarkable. The last note has no accent but it is free, with space. Finally, Christ recommends the student to use the movement of the body in his performance, being aware of what he is playing. He also should study in front of the mirror.
