Canibus seems to be understimated by many people. Many factors (and by "factors" I mean people including himself) contributed to his problematic career as obstacles for him to achieve more recognition. For me one factor being he always was in a dichotomy or two-choice situation regarding his lyrical content and the scope of his music: to go mainstream or underground. Mainstream mechanics was never going to let him prosper with the kind of lyrics he was bringing to the Hip-Hop game. If he had gone mainstream, he would have to dumb down his lyrics. But underground embraced them and that's why Canibus is a big figure in that context. In brief, dont talk in past tense. Canibus is still making music with much of the same style.

That was genuinely a dumb decision by Canibus to battle one of the best battle rappers at the time. Since bis only released a few tracks here and there prior to that, hardly prepared. It's like me lifting weights on and off for 12 months then calling out an Olympic powerlifter. He deserved the defeat. One thing drastic stated in an interview was "it's easy to write good lyrics since you have all the time to prepare" (paraphrase). Let's be real he doesn't possess the knowledge base nor mental capacity to produce bars like bis. Nobody does!
Disaster is purely a battle rapper nick cannon wild & out type entertainer. No chance he can write lyrics like Bis. Imagine bis spitting about art, history, philosophy, science, metaphysics etc in a battle rap. That's dumb. Only K-Rino and Black Thought can bang at this level.
Jonty he faultered after that C! True Hollywood, but from Mic Club on, he's been solid. Beats are still sometimes questionable but lyrics are on point. Although that Dizaster Battle was a disaster...
