I think the Museum was trying to figure out how to get Jacob and Jen to visit. The Mold-a-rama exhibit entered everyone's minds. Especially Viola's mind. And voila, which is French for "presto chango," it was there.

I grew up poor in Chicago, but fortunately the Museum of Science and Industry, Field Museum, Art Institute, and Lincoln Park Zoo all had free admission in the 70's, so our mom took us to one of those places nearly every weekend. The Mold-a-Rama was a cheap and frequent souvenir. Totally agreed on the nostalgia of the smell. And RIP the Circus exhibit.

Voila! Is actually pronounced Vwahlah. It is a french word, thus the strange pronunciation. Many Americans think it is Wahlah, but the V at the beginning is spoken. (I can see how it could also be mistaken for Viola by switching the inner vowels)

It's great you can still get them albeit for a much larger price!!!! Another great souvenir is the flattened penny with the attractions on them for .51cents, .50 for the souvenir n 1 cent to be the souvenir.!!! In the 1990’s when I was a kid, my parents and I visited this museum a couple times with relatives. I’m totally blind, and most of the exhibits were visual, so my favorite part was always the Mold-a-Rama in the basement. I loved putting in a few coins and taking home a warm souvenir that I could feel. The train and space shuttle molds were neat, but Lincoln’s head was my favorite. My mom described how each mold was made as it journeyed through the machine. I always thought the hot plastic smelled a bit like melting crayons.
I’d love to use one of these machines again sometime.
PS: Look up the Voiceover screen reader if you want to know how I can type these comments, or do anything on the iPhone, really.
I can’t believe you and apparently many others love Mold-a-Ramas as much as I do. This video made my day!!

Hey carpetbagger got a fact for you about the breadfruit. It's a well known fruit in the south pacific, it's starchy so it tastes alot like a potato but when it's fully ripe it tastes sweeter because the starch breaks down into sugar. Wouldn't reccomend eating raw always cook it.

You know I remember as a kid in Canada's wonderland they had a mold a Rama but it was already falling apart in the late '90s early 2000s. They moved it from another park that was only in the company before cedar Fair owns it. It was just interesting to seeing this machine that is already been through a lot as a kid. It showed it the mold I remember it had. I believe it was like a Flintstones one I think I don't know it's going back to like the '90s when I was a kid

The machines were actually invented in the Chicago area.
The first of these machines I ever saw was at MSI Chicago -- like that picture in the exhibit, the bust of Abraham Lincoln machine was there for decades.
The original price for a Lincoln bust was 10c.
There remains a Mold A Rama in Seattle at the Space Needle.
I remember when they had the machine at the Fairy Castle --- I tried to get one there, but the mold just didn't work well (as mentioned) the one I got came out with many holes and I didn't keep it.

Breadfruit, (Artocarpus altilis), tree of the mulberry family (Moraceae) and its large fruits that are a staple food of the South Pacific and other tropical areas. Breadfruit contains considerable amounts of starch and is seldom eaten raw. It may be roasted, baked, boiled, fried, or dried and ground into flour. In the South Seas, cloth is made from the fibrous inner bark, the wood is used for canoes and furniture, and glue and caulking material are obtained from the milky juice.
