Chicago native here... the field museum has some of the most famous dino murals painted by Charles Knight... all the moldorama dinos are based on his murals!! They were created i believe fior the 64 worlds fair in NY. Happy travels friend.

I am happy to see that the killer lions of Tsavo exhibit I worked on in 1996 is still the same. We updated it in preparation for the movie “The Ghost in the Darkness” by adding thorn bushes behind the lions. The thorn bushes were taken from trimmings from trees in Grant Park. We added long thorns to the branches by gluing painted toothpicks to them. The lions could not be moved, so we had to climb inside the case and paint around the lions. This was done during museum hours and I still remember hundreds of school children banging on the glass.

I have been a member of the Field since 1994. I LOVE that museum with a passion and would often just wander the halls and sit to take it all in. All of these years later, I still have not seen or done everything. Welcome (back) to Chicago.

Thank you for the tour. I have not been to this museum since the middle 1970's . I lived in Milwaukee at that time. but now Milwaukee is going to have theirs demolished . Such a shame that the building is falling apart. Much of the exhibits will not make it to their new museum, which is smaller than the other one from the 1960's . So much will be lost.

Never heard of this before, but I would love to visit. You went in during daylight and came out at night. Definitely would have to go at 8 am to see everything. Lol My favorite would have to be the Malvina Hoffman exhibit and the shrunken exhibit. The Malvina Hoffman statues were absolutely beautiful and was done in good taste. I don't see them as racist at all. It's other things that I saw as racist, but had nothing to do with Ms. Hoffman exhibit. I am super surprised to see all the Mold-a-ramas!! And they all worked!!! Lol Thanks Jacob!! Looks like I've added another place to visit on my Carpetbagger list.
